Getting Dizzy

Sometimes when I bend over and stand up, I get light headed and dizzy. I've heard it said, that if you feel like you're dizzy and going to pass out, that you're to bend over and put your head between your knees. Well, if bending down makes me feel dizzy and about ready to pass out, how is putting my head between my knees going to help? Maybe when I bend down and stand up, I;m moving to fast and I get a "head rush?"

This isnt good. You should have a dr. check you out. alot of times this is caused by a gemical im balance. i know because my mom had that happened many times a few years back. Its a good idea to get it checked asap.

I get dizzy alot but usually it's caused by low blood sugar or something. Many things can be caused by dizziness. If it continues I would have it checked out. Maybe when you stand up you're just standing up to fast and that can also make it worse. Hope your dizziness goes away soon, it's not fun i used to get that way all the time.

If you are finding that standing up is making you get dizzy you need to get up more gradually. The advice about bending down and putting your head between your knees applies to when you are feeling like you are fainting. I know, hard to tell the difference. If your blood pressure tends toward the low side, or if you have been sitting or laying for a long while, or sometimes for other reasons, when you move to an upright position quickly the blood cannot keep up, and you experience what is sometimes called orthostatic hypotension. That is when your blood pressure drops suddenly due to your body position. In nursing classes they teach us to have a patient/client, to sit on the edge of the bed and dangle their legs, moving them around some to get the blood flowing before standing up.

Thanks for commenting and making sense of it! I was up until 3 this morning and it happened and it just hit me, why would you put your head between your knees if you were dizzy? Now, that I've slept and am more alert it makes sense! Sometimes when I'm up late and haven't had any sleep, my mind wanders and I think of stuff that I normally don't think of. Then after I've slept, I'm like WOW, that didn't make any sense.

Hi, Less sleep makes us dizzy, I have this experience more than once, getting up from a sitting position suddenly or climbing up a high place. I don't know the reason why, maybe it has got to do with blood pressure or the eyes that are too tired to focus due to fatigue.

Better for you to have a blood chemistry. Have a check for good and bad cholesterol and blood sugar too. Also check for your BP.

It's called postural hypotention. I deal with that often. When you stand up too quickly, your blood pressure drops too fast. You feel like you're going to pass out as a result. This happened to me one day and I almost hit a tv stand. My vision went black. That's when I found out what it was. Now I've learned not to get up so quickly.

I think there is a problem on your health. It's almost same with people who are anemic. Better to consult your doctor

hi stoutjodee yes because the blood did not get clear up to your head.next time go up slowly and that will not happen. I take three high blood pressure pills so if I get up to quickly I get dizzy too. I first just sit up on the edge of a chair then slowly get up so I do not get dizzy.

Thanks for posting this discussion. Well i have heard that in the event of dizziness one should always try to do some exercises wherein the blood circulation in our body can take place in a better way but this has to be done efficiently and not haphazardly. I think u should do it very slowly and wait for some minutes and i am sure u will much better than before. What say?

I get this sometimes, especially when I have low blood or if I didn't have enough sleep for a few nights. I think that thing about putting your head between your knees is for anything but that, but it's just my opinion. One time at a fun run, I skipped breakfast and I feel like I am going to pass out. One of the medics on standby advised me to sit, bend and put my head between my knees. But my doctor didn't advise this when I get dizzy spells due to iron deficiency and low blood pressure.
