Vanishing discussion ideas...arrgh!

Does this happen to anyone else here? I'm riding my bike to work and think of a great discussion topic. It's cold. I've got gloves on. I don't have a pen or paper. By the time I get to work I forget. I know I've had the same great idea something like three days in a row. Today is my day off and I'm sitting in front of my computer with myLot open and I can't remember what it was for the life of me.

hi koopharper been there and done that. It is truly exasperating to
have that great wonderful idea for the best discussion ever then sit
down to write and poof its gone. So I usually if I am close to the computer write it down the moment I get the inspiration , the rest of the time I end up writing something else but it never feels like its as good as the idea for a
discussion that got away

My wife and kids joked this morning that I should get on the bike and start riding toward work and when the idea strikes again ride back and put it up. Problem is it might fade again on the way back. Maybe I should just carry a pen and paper with me.

Oh ho, now Hatley is telling fisherman stories about the one that got away. I need to start a few discussions, but I tend to not even come up with anything fresh and new. I hope koop can solve his dilemma, but I appreciate the chance to answer this one as well.

It happens to me, only it is in the middle of the night when I get this bright idea when am walking around, outdoor, and of course in both situations I do not have my laptop in front of me. I do have my iPhone but do not want to pay for the data. I do have an iPad and can use it if I Amina place other then mine that offers freevwi fi, but you know as soon as you use an iPad, people get envious so I have to wait until ingest home and the mind goes blank.

Me it is writing in the dark and making sense of what i write. i do not have good handwriting and it is worse at night. I do wonder what those guys were thinking who wrote "take a notebook and put it besides your bed and then when you wake up write down your dream." Maybe they use Dragon Dictation.

I've had great ideas in the middle of the night. Those I can get to a pen and paper for though. Then the problem is getting back to sleep. That's a whole different discussion.

I don't keep anything like that next to my bed. If it's worth writing down I don't have any problem walking all the way to my writing station.

My defective memory does stop me from enjoying the site. It'll come to me. Besides this discussion is doing just fine.

I have been in that similar situation. That is why I try to bring along a bag with me always so that I could have my pen and paper with me just in case I need to remember something.

I may bring a paper and pen along but it won't be easy to write something down. Not only am I concentrating on getting to work on time but it's dark. The sun doesn't come up until I'm already at work.

I have the same problem, it seems like when Im riding on bike and while waiting the traffic light turn from red to green there are new ideas coming to my mind what to write and what to post to my blogs. But when Im in front of computer or have pen and notebook next time it seems that the idea is missing from my mind. I think the idea is still in our mind but it covered with another memory. Try to remember the main idea, or recall in which street when suddenly you got the idea. It might help to retrieve the missing memory. Do you have recorder to record your voice? So when you get the idea you stop for a while to record the main idea of what you want to write, and later you can write in your computer according to the main idea.

Don't currently have a recorder and really don't have the budget to consider one. I would have to keep it in my locker at work and that's far from ideal. I'll remember at some point and it'll end up here. It might even happen today. Probably not though.

Actually this situation can happen to anyone especially when your grow older it will happen more, there is a name for that:Temporary amnesia. So in this case I think when you think of some good ideas or something important you should write it down, there are a old saying"good memory can not win the pen."

True words. No one's memory is better than an old fashion pen and paper.

I hate it when something like that happens, and it does happen all too frequently. Since you are on your bike and in gloves I have not got any fast solution. I have grabbed scraps of paper to write on, I have used paper towels in rest areas, but none of those things will work for you. What if you speak the idea out loud to yourself. Maybe even give it an affirmation. "My idea for a discussion is blah, blah, blah. I will remember it when I get to work and can write it down." and say that out loud to yourself. It sure cannot hurt anything, and it may solve your problem.

I might try this... if I remember. Premature senility is a hard thing to work with.

You definitely are not the only one that has had this to happen to them because it has been something that I've had happen to me many times. It will just dawn on me that something would be a great topic to discuss on here, but I will be away from my computer and unable to start a discussion from my cell phone at the moment for whatever reason. Then when I would be able to start my discussion, I can't for the life of me begin to remember what it was that I wanted to talk about.

I'm still lost on this one idea. I know it came to me three separate mornings and now that I'm on my "weekend" it just isn't there. It'll come back sooner or later. Eventually it'll end up here. If I recall it has something to do with cycling which I babble on a lot about here on the lot.

That happens to me several times already. That's why I always have my journal handy at all times. Ideas really sometimes pop up regardless whre I am, in the rest room, while walking or in a taxi cab. Sometimes I do the memorizing the way I used to do it when I was still studying in school. But times really change, I need to jot them down to make concrete note. Mental note sometimes is hard for me nowadays. I hope I can remeber them all now. Thanks

Always good to be able to make notes to remember stuff. I might stick a pen and paper in my lunch sack. Might help me out in that regard.

I do this a lot as I'm dozing off to sleep. I think after I've come up with the discussion in my head, "I've got to remember this when I wake up!" Guess what? It never happens!
Maybe your wife has a good idea about getting on your bike and start peddling to work, maybe the idea will hit you again. Good discussion, even though it probably wasn't the "great" discussion you have on the way to work!

Went out on the bike midday today to run an errand. No dice. I am having some fun with this anyway.
