Dear mylotters This is the festival season in most of the Indian states. The big celebration deepawali (festival of lights) is coming next month (On November 13). Dusshera celebrations just over in last week. There is a festive mood in everywhere especially in markets, the shops are decorated in an attractive way and offers of so many prizes, rebates etc are on display. Now my question is, do you think the festival season is apt for purchasing things. I felt there are advantages in some types of goods to buy in the time of off season. But in case of cloths and some other goods we have to be very careful as the festival time is clearance time of old stocks too. However, I felt, anybody may go for a shopping in festival season, I think the temptation we can’t avoid. Please share your experiences (in case you get cheated on buying precuts), opinions etc. Thank you so much in advance. Happy and Prosperous Deepawali/Diwali to all members here. October 30, 2012.

I think, yes,it is the best season for shopping. Here in my hometown you may buy quality cloths and other home appliances at a cheaper rate, because the shop owners want to make a good sale in festive seasons, especially Durga Puja and Deepawali. We keep waiting for these seasons for the whole year and when the seasons come,we start buying different things that are necessary.

Hello elites, I understand your views. Here in this place also there is much rush in market. The winter season also starts so there is a must situation to go and buy winter cloths too. We usually go and buy winter cloths for children, they are growing it is must need to buy winter dress everywhere. So I am getting a chance to watch all those beautiful decorations done by all the shop keepers. Once we purchased our washing machine at the time of Diwali, yes we got in very less price. Have a nice time, enjoy the festival.

Hiya sreekala, Happy festivities to you all. We do not have that kind of celebrations but I really wish we did. Sounds really nice how they set things up over there. We have Christmas coming up while it is a wonderful time of year for everyone here. I really do not think about it too much in the sense of buying presents although I like shopping in general. The biggest celebrations local ones are ones that I am not really in favour of as they use animals in such a way that I am not in agreement with also the quality of what they sell here is way under par not up to standard at all and the prices are way out of proportion with the quality. Hope you all have a wonderful time sreekala I can only begin to imagine how things go for you all there. What are the lights like? Are they candle type things or lanterns? Please detail a bit thank you very much hugs as always. I do not sound very festive at the moment because I am rather concerned about a friend who is critically ill at the moment in Hospital. But just the same I wish all of you very happy Festival times.xxx

Diays on Diwali - Diyas using on Diwali
Hi dear angel, First of all thank you so much for starting my discussion, am so happy to see you here as first. My prayers for your friend and hope your friend will be alright soon. Hope you and your family doing great. Thanks a lot again for your wishes dear. In North India, Diwali is celebrating grandly, all the shops are decorating with colorful bulbs, not only shops most of the houses also decorated with colourful bulbs. The difference is shops are very advanced on decorating as they want to attract customers. On the days of celebrations, we decorate 'diyas' everywhere at home. Candles also used but mostly earthen pots are used. There are so many offers available for shopping at the time of Diwali.. Most of the offices are offering gifts to their staff, so in that way too there will be grand sales.. Have a great time dear. Take care.

Hiya sreekala, Would love to be there even if its only once. I love things with lights in and around. Shops do decorate but not really very much not outstanding at all but they do what they can. A lot of shops here just concentrate on selling what they can and closing and starting up again somewhere else. How I wish that they would do something like this. I do not have candles as such I have those wind up torches at hand in case the light goes and we cannot see anything but as for anything else I have a very naughty dog that jumps all over the place. Again really want to see that Festival have a really nice time.xxx

Hiya sreekala, Can know how you feel about that because we have lived in a couple of places that went to extremes so much so that you thought it was never going to end. When it did end also you thought that the silence was something almost strange as well. In the end you had gotten so used to it you missed the noise. Children here get injured and badly burned too their parents do not watch them all they should and those things happen. You have a nice weekend too and enjoy it all of you. Hope the worst of it is now over.xxx

Yeah Sree dear, it's twelve days left to go before deepawali. I learn this by seeing the multicolored decoration in the hypermarkets as well as the outlets and stalls along the streets here. Canopies seen in front of some outlets to display more stuffs related to the approaching festivals. Buying things truly in need of for the celebration is apt I think. Same situation for chinese new year Yeah, lots of festival stuffs displayed are really attractive, if can't resist from temptation surely we would spend more on them. I find customers seem to be extra generous in spending money for major festival. It's wise to purchase what we really need according to budget. I like to purchase items earlier with reasonable price or offer price. As what I know the dealers may hang up for a higher price as they realize that the nearer the festival will be, people are tend to be crazier in shopping. may be when getting old it doesn't find difficulty to refrain from snapping bargains or consumer goods Have a nice day dear

Hi didi There is a lot of crowd on the roads and the malls these days... and I dont prefer shopping on the festive occasions. Also, the goods on sale are of poorer quality at many places as they know people would buy no matter what the quality. I would wait for non festive days - as I celebrate almost all festive days from all over the world and so many a times, it is not the festive time here. So these are the days to go for shopping for me. btw, I havent brought anything for me since the past 2 and a half years now (refer only clothes and gadgets) though I keep buying something for my wife

Dear Sidhu, I know you always purchase things for your wife only and forgetting about didi. Have you got back your mobile, I mean have you purchased new mobile for your wife. It is true, the festival time, shop keepers are clearing their old goods and offering the same in a less price. We have to be careful on this thing. But some other items like electronic goods; I think it will be a better deal in festival time. Hope you are back and good in health. Take care.

Hi sree, Happy Diwali to you too. You are right, we can't avoid the temptation of buying new things during festival season, it is the time for buying new things. All the good products are come with an offer and we can save during our purchases. I agree most of the shop keepers will clear the old goods during festival time with some discounts, so we must be very careful while buying clothes

Hello Vidya, Happy to see you again, not seen you for long time. We are not friends in mylot at present so am not getting any notification on your topic. How is darshi and kids, hope all are doing fine. Regarding the topic, yes, in case of cloths, we have to be very careful, as they will put all the old stock to clear in sales with great reduction of price. There will be much rush in shops so all may try to get the things without checking much. In that case, we may get cheated. We buy only winter dress this time as the winter starts. Thank you and have a nice time, Enjoy.

I would think that Festival time would be the worst time to shop. Ofcourse for keep sakes it would be a good time since some things may not be available at other times. Yes, some off season items will be prices well but not now. Some temptation are inevidible but keep your wallets in your pockets otherwise.

Hi celticeagle, Ha ha, I know if we go to market in this time, the wallet will get empty for sure. But you know here it is diwali season and major portion of people getting their bonuses and other benefits, so there will be a rush in market. The second thing is starting winter season, getting winter cloths, when they have enough money in pocket. I don’t shop this time other than winter cloths. My children are small and it is a must to get winter cloths for them every year. Otherwise I don’t like to shop when there is much rush. Have nice time to you.

Hello Sir, That is the advantage of festival time for shop keepers. Of course, many are happy to jump into the place and buy the stuffs without thinking much. That is the inspiration they get again and again to clearance their old goods. They realize the mistakes after washing the cloths, either the clours may fade or it will tear… Have a Happy and Prosperous Diwali

Stores and malls always have discounts and more discounts on festival seasons. It happened anywhere and I often went on those days to check what can I get... Do you know, most of the time I just came back empty handed cause I know they up the prices first before the discounted them. So, at the end, we only get a real 10/15% discount that what was published as 50 - 70% discounts... so Bad of them...

Hi jenny, That is the marketing technique Last week my hubby bought a big tin of talcum powder and one small tin was free with the big tin. He was in a hurry as we want to go to school for annual day, he didn’t waste time and just pick the same. In free time at home he checked it and realized the big tin is half empty, which means the content from the big tin shared to the other tin and giving us an impression, it is giving as free of cost. In nutshell they are making us fools by offering 'free'. Thank you dear, have a great weekend.

The rate of buying old stock in some festival are really high. But then the price is really low. I think everyone knows that fact. The key there when buying is choosing the right goods or stocks wisely. Happy shopping my friend.

Hi sreekala, First of all let me wish you a good happy holidays with lots of fun and lots of smile. I just used to do shopping especially during the offer season but the thing is that we do not have such offers in kerala for diwali. The reason behind it is, we people in kerala do not celebrate this special day as compared to other days. I am quite sure that i will do shopping when i find a offer in the clothes which fits me.

Hello thewonderboy, I knew well, Diwali is not celebrating in Kerala. But Onam was there and I hope you enjoyed much and shop well. There is much rush in shops and lots of offers and discounts at the time of Onam. A handsome amount may get as bonus those who works). Same is the case in North at the time of Diwali. I felt the festival of lights is more colourful to watch especially at night. Thank you so much. Have a happy and prosperous Diwali. Enjoy.

Hello nezavisima, That means you like to go for a shopping whenever you get money in hands. Good but you must save money for the rainy days too. I am not rich, may be that is the reason, I spend wisely. I won’t go for shopping unnecessarily. We do our shopping every year in summer season, just before the vacation to our native place. In winter time, we shop only for the winter cloths. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice time and warm wishes on Deepawali.

Hello Wakeup, Festival time, it is the time for business people to make huge profit. We are forced to be in market, just for the season. I won’t shop, it is just because of the festival season. I like to avoid the crowd. But the winter season demands a shopping every year. Thanks for sharing. Warm wishes to you.

Well, I don't think so. Aside from the hassles of long list of shoppers and crowded malls, I hate business people fooling consumers that they offer lower and discounted sales good when in fact this is not true. Actually mythociate is correct, the best time to shop is off season. Here in the Philippines I like to shop after Christmas Season. Have a nice day. Ciao!

i enjoy festival shopping because i think it is killing 2 bird with one stone. normally during festival season, there are discounts and free gift provided. so like me, i just have limited budget to shops so normally this time is my favourite time to shops. and somemore festival's item are only available to buy only around the festival time so i really look to it because to join the festival, normally only that time i can buy things related and the festival cloths. i like it so much because it make me feel it is part of mine culture and i am part for it too. but i don't like is this is my second post because my first post for this gone because of poor line and cannot go to the next page. sorry this is not relate to topic just i want to bluffing about typing for second time.

Hello xiejaitou, I knew the frustration of not posting the response on the first instant. I was also suffered that at a period of time in the beginning of my mylot life. It happens due to poor net connection or some kind of errors. You can avoid this ‘re-type of matter’ once you reach 500 posts, then you can copy your reply and save in word format, in case you cannot post on the first place you can paste the matter, I mean no need to type again. So be hurry and reach 500 posts quickly. Regarding the topic, we have to be careful on discounts in case of cloths. Thank you so much for sharing. Warm greetings to you.
