If you are unconscious, are you really tranquil?

The word "Tranquilizer" refers to an instrument that shoots out some sort of medicine that causes a person to fall unconscious. If you take out the "izer" you have "tranquil." I don't really think tranquilizer is a good word for the instrument "gun" as you may... Honestly, "unconsciousiousnessizer" would be better, because when your unconscious your not "tranquil" your just quiet. Unless it refers not to the person who was "tranq'd" but to the person who did the "tranq'ing" ? Afterall I imagine they'd be "tranquil" having their target unconscious! Especially if it's a big dangerous animal. What are your thoughts? What's a better name for it?

When I see the word "tranquilizer" I think of animal trancs. And one thing that needs to be remembered too is that some are stronger than others. There is the word seditive too. It really depends on the medication and each is different. That's where the Psychiatrist or doctor comes in. He knows what each will do and has to match it to the person.

Horse Tranq, yea. I suppose for us humans they are called sedatives, or subduers, though I believe on TV I've heard of them as tranqs too, but that seems to be more for the older movies... "he knows what each will do and has to match it." Though it's not that easy, just like anything like that I imagine it takes a few hit and misses.

You just really have to find the one that is right for you.

there used to be a tv programme for children called daktari, set in the jungle, and they were always shooting the animals with tranquilisers. it seemed so efficient, and always just instantly knocked them out, without doing any harm whatsoever, but then they were usually fired by the heroes, so that is probably why.

I was actually thinking of the same thing as your middle paragraph when I was at the end of your first paragraph. I think it was more for the one shooting the equipment than the one having the shots.

For some reason after coming back to this I thought of something I've seen on facebook. It's semi related to this and you may have seen it before too. It's a conversation between a person who works in a mental asylum and a reporter of some sort. The reporter asks how they weed out the real crazies from those who don't need to be in there. The guy who worked there says we fill a bathtub full of water and give the patient a teaspoon, a ladle or a bucket. The reporter says "the not so crazy will use a bucket." The worker says "No they'll pull the plug in the bath, do you want a bed by the window?"

I have to admit that this discussion topic made me giggle a bit. I think unconsiousiousnessizer it kind of hard to say and spell for that matter but I do kind of like it. How about a "knockerouter"?

Knockerouter is a better word and sums it up a little better. Unsconsciousnessizer doesn't even really sound like a word, more like gibberish. I'll go with Knockerouter then...
