I have just shifted to a new residence and have not yet set up my TV. So now for the last four days I have been living without a TV and just dont know what is happening in the outside world. Have neither read a newspaper because I have been busy nor checked the news on the internet. Am just now cut off from the outside world and all its troubles. There is hardly any happy news coming in newspapers and television anyway nowadays. Would like to stay a few more days in this quite without the noise of the television.

With the internet, I don't think TV is necessary anymore. Internet is a necessity! Internet has replaced TV. We can't leave without tv. We can get news, anything with internet. TV shows are available from streaming. I am going to cut my tv this coming year after my contract ended. I already hook up my laptop with the TV. Start watching tv thtough the internet. News, if you are busy, turn on the radio. During working hours, I listen to radio online. When I am driving, I can listen to radio. TV nowdays is just interested for the TV series. Other than that, there is nothing. For movie, we can download it.

While at work I get to see the TV the whole day because we have TVs put up in our whole office. Its at home that I dont get the news. And I was on leave for last four days so was switched off from the outside world. Am not fond of movies so do not miss watching movies on the television. It is just some soaps and reality shows and news channels that I watch. I too listen to the news on mobile while travelling.

Hi mayka! We have become so addicted to watching TV that sometimes we just can not think how could be life without TV. However, it is always better to skip TV for few days for a change. Most of the TV shows are irritating (talking about general entertainment Hindi channels) and one feels after seeing that one has wasted his/her time. News is also disgusting with so many breaks thrown in in between. I watch TV selectively. Few days ago I was on tour to Kerala for more than a week. I did not watch TV at all and did not even checked the newspaper. I might have missed some important news/events but it was a refreshing change. Have a great day!

You say - "At home I get to see various channels and get variety of news.". It means you could compere other news channels with the one you get to see in your office and could judge which one is better.

I hardly watch the Hindi entertainment channels. Its more of the music channels or the news channels. Just like the sound of the television while I am doing my work. And something to look to when I am in the hall. I anyway get to see the news channel at work (though only one channel is put on here). At home I get to see various channels and get variety of news.

You may wonder if I say, I am quite happy if the tv is not working at home. I can enjoy the silence. It is really ridiculous to shout and make the works fast when we need to go any place. Kids will keep on watching the tv and finally I ending up switching off the tv forcefully. I can enjoy when there is no work, usually this happens rarely. I really don’t like any noise when I am in hurry for anything. When we shift our house, we too get 2-3 peaceful days without the tv. It is just our thinking we can’t live without tv or such kinds of gadgets. I think life will be more peaceful and enjoyable without these gadgets.

I have this problem when my kids are here. They only concentrate on the tv and dont move for anything in the house. Its difficult to get them to eat their food on time too. But when I am alone I like the sound of the tv in the background.

We just now have television again after about five months without it. While we were sans television, I generally followed the news online and on the radio (via Public Radio). Yesterday, we had our new (used) television set up and are now again tethered to the television. I like having the background noise while I work, but I will say that I did not really miss it during our hiatus from it.

I keep the television set on while working. I may not always be watching the programs but like the sound of the tv in the background. Also like to be updated on the news from time to time. Feeling a bit lost because I cannot listen to the news.

It is just nice be able to live a life without TV for a few more days, there are too much distraction and junk programs broad-casted into our small home screen anyway, it won't harm much even if you would to live through your life without it for month. It is such a blessing for you not to have TV for so many days.

Sometimes it does feel like a blessing not having a TV at home. But sometimes I feel cut off from everyone because I don't know whats happening in the outside world.

I seldom watch TV because I do not have a TV in my house neither. But I do think TV is important thing in family. My neighbour has a TV, and in weekend the whole family will gather around and watch TV together. They judge the actors, they judge the plot, and they laugh together. This makes the family really warm. Sometime I go together with them, that's really fun time, although it is kind of time waste. Talking about wasting time, I do think watching TV occupy too much time, especially when you are attracted to a TV play. You want to know the result and keep sitting in front the TV. That will cost a lot of time. I think some channel worth watching, such as news channnel, travelling channel and so on. This makes us connected with outside world. In a word, I think TV is important to family, but as adult, we should have self-control power to prevent TV addiction, right?

I have control over watching the tv. In fact I hardly sit in front of the tv and watch anything. I just want the television on while doing my work. And I like being updated with the news.

Yes, there is nothing good to hear from news these days. Actually our TV seems to be a display at home for a very long time since kids are not fond of watching tv series- rather than checking the net. So, we seldom use or open our TV set- unless my kids wants to watch a movie or when they buy a new DVD to watch.

Nora beti The charm of tv is gone, many channels you can't watch with your kids, grandkids, in 1973 here we had only one channel by Sambalpur Doordarsan, black and white transmission, just one hour 7-8pm; but in my home you can see 50 to 60 persons, more on Wednesdays; because of 'CHTRAHAR' ; the Hindi songs Buy a big flat tv and enjoy

Gone are the days when boys and girls met at street corners and updated themselves with all that is going on in their lives. That does not happen any more. I think then we knew more about the happenings in our friends lives than now.

I agree that there seems to be lesser programs and shows worth watching on tv nowadays. I sometimes enjoy the music channels that show only songs. And yes I am feeling cut off from the world.

When I first moved out of my parents house I didn't have a telly. I wouldn't mind doing without the telly, would get a lot more done and do more different things as it is very easy to veg in front of the telly. I have telly on alot for background noise like the radio, but wouldn't miss it if it was gone for a while. Not sure what the children would think of having no telly

Mayka, it had been a few months that i rarely watch television since the transmitter is not working well. In fact, since we have the internet connection, we spend most of our time on the computer. We only switched on the television when we want to watch the DVD. For us, the computer seems more important than the television. Because any news that we are interested to know, can be found through the internet.

Hi mayka123, me too. I lived without a television at home. This is also to prevent too much time spent on television. Once you have a television at home, you would tend to sit there and chase after movies and dramas. Sometimes even neglect certain things to be done at home. For us, we can read up the news on internet when we are at work. So, that's why we prefer not to install any television at home. Besides, my husband and i are working most of the time, so by night time when we return home would be late. Hence, it is better to spend some time together, or do some reading before going to bed. That would be much more meaningful instead. =)

Well, I'm not really a TV type of guy, I'm more of a computer and internet guy! haha So for me, it doesn't make a difference whether I watch TV or not, anyway I can watch and read news online. The only problem with me is I don't walk outside that that much and I'm starting to feel something different with my eyesight. Makes me really worry. _
