An Experiment

Was watching a re-run of a comedy show last light and they were doing an experiment. (You need a wall and a chair.) The woman put a chair 3 steps from the wall. The object was for a person when bending to pick the chair up, they had to have their head against the wall. With your head against the wall (3 feet away from the wall) pick up the chair and stand up. It sounds easy ,right. Well, when a woman does this, she can stand upright with the chair. When a man does this, he can't stand all the way up. So my husband says, "What's up with that?" So he did it and he couldn't stand straight up. I tried it and I could stand up. Why can't a man pick up a chair when his head is against the wall, and lift the chair up and the man stand completely up? Try it, it really works!

There is always one, isn't there? I can not do it and my wife can't do it. (That is only because she is quite a bit shorter than me.)

Did it years ago and it does work. It is because us women are built different. And I suppose because we naturally like to arrange furniture. While the men just supervise.

So true. I love moving furniture. But now it will be rather harder because I have to take all those books out of the book car. I was also thinking of moving the cough to the bedroom since I sleep on the couch since my bed is too hard. But then I would have to buy more furniture for the living room and that would be too expensive.

Very true, women can rearrange furniture because the man is out working his upper body muscles! When women move furniture we like to work smarter not harder! Thanks for joining in this discussion.

In general I am with the people who talk about the center of gravity, because women have a different center of gravity and muscle mass. An additional, probably unrelated fact is that men are more likely to sink when swimming. Less internal fat and muscles in different places.

I remember doing this, my boys couldn't pick up the chairs, but the girls could. It's been a while, but I think it is because of our hips, we have an extra or more movement joint in our hips, (think childbirth and what our hips go through), and so we are able to pick up the chair easily.

I agree with you, I think since women are built for giving birth we are able to have movement in the hips that men don't have. Who would ever think that though until you actually do it! Thanks for joining in this discussion!

so it is just a proof that there are some women that can do and men just can't. Ha! now, we are one point step forward to what women can do that men cant. Yepeee.. good test! More.. more...

It is a function of centre of mass over centre of rotation. Mass is distributed differently in men and women, hence the difference all the best, urban

Maybe because a woman does more activities which exercise the upper body and men do more that exercizes the lower. So they are stronger in either area.

Maybe it's because we've given birth and we work all muscles! Because of my hearing loss, I didn't think I would be able to because of my equalibrium not be equal, but I did! Thanks for joining in this discussion!

When we lose a sense like hearing we are strengthened in other ways.

yep did this along time ago when my kids were little.. yes had girls and my step sons.. and the girls could do it and boys couldn't. It is he center of gravity that is different in women than in men that makes the difference. Still it is a fun activity to do with the family. Shows that men can't do everything ..

Yes I remember that one: Gloria in All in the family. I think it is because women are different built then men. Brcause women are built to bear children their pelvis is wider. But don't ask how that is related to this trich with the chair! LOL
