would you be here any way? I am donating blood platelets right now, so I am only typing one handed. My donations go pretty fast, but I wanted to get on the lot anyway. m

And this explains why this post is exceptionally short. Actually I have just picked up my new skill in typing with one hand after being deprived of the use of a table top computer. In a bigger keyboard I usually type on blind touch but now that I am on this tiny Samsung I have to use one hand to type. Which I find a bit slow but am improving. Mylot has indeed trained us to adapt to any circumstances and come out perfectly good.

I would certainly not want to do it all the time. I had thought about posting this the last time I donated. I do touch typing on my laptop, but I am not sure how small your Samsung is. It is a definite adjustment from one computer to another and from a desk top to a lap top and back again. We do adapt when we are determined.

My mind had a really hard time finding the keys I needed at any speed at all. I can type pretty fast when I can use both hands.

i have not done it before, but i guess it's worth a try. typing with one hand, never heard of that. used to think the small keyboards of cellphones would make them revert to laptops and pc; that thought didn't succeed. maybe one hand typing would be the norm in days to come.

I was in the position of having to work one handed for many years. I had torn the tendons and ligaments in my right hand and wrist and couldn't use the hand. Also there was serious nerve damage to the index finger and to the ones next to it. Writing was impossible along with doing most anything else. I worked for months changing dominance to the left hand (everyone told me that it was impossible but I proved them wrong) and soon was able to use the computer one handed. Even though I got much of the use of my right hand back, I still will on occasion will use the computer one handed. I also have the Dragon Naturally Speaking program that really helps too. Especially since I have arthritis in both of my shoulders, in my right hand and wrist,(also in my lower back, and both knees).

I had wondered about Dragon. . . I have heard about it, my friend worked for an HR person who was blind and used it.I understand that you have to train it to be usable for you.

Oh, that is funny. As usual you have blessed me with laughter. People already KNOW I have gone around the bend as I talk about all of my friends, many of whom I will never meet but love to visit with.

I was doing homework one night (for the Dragon class) and Bill came in...he went through the house looking for the person I was talking to...then raced out the sliding glass door to catch the "perp" before he got away. I was laughing so hard I couldn't talk for a good five minutes after he came back in....then I would look at the poor man and giggle some more. Bill is a retired police officer and is very very protective of me. It's sooo sweet because his previous wife was the kind that was a tank!!! If anyone crossed her she lowered her cannon and blew them away! So having someone to love and protect is such a treat for the man. He thought that I was talking to a home invader because I was upset at the program and was yelling at it. Just remembering his reaction to the "talking" to a "perp" has me dissolved in giggles all over again!

That is much more determined than I am. I do not do the internet on my phone, I cannot see or type if I tried that. I hope your left hand gets better soon. How did you injure it.

I slipped and used it to break my fall. Broke 2 bones. My laptop is broken so I was forced to use my phone for myLotting.

Garden, hope by now you can type using your both hands again. I ever tried typing with only one hand and it is not an easy job. It makes my typing always go error and i had to delete a few times to makes it right. I always prefer to type with both hands. Typing with both hands makes it faster and easier. Have a happy weekend...

I was only hooked up to the apheresis machine for about an hour. I was having a busy week and felt like I had to be here at that time. I am typing with both hands now and as you can see it is a whole lot faster. I type a lot more when I can use both hands.

Yup, typing with both hands always makes typing goes faster and easier. I always prefer typing with both hands. I haven't tried typing using speaking. Could we type faster by using that way?

I know I could type with one hand. But it would take me forever to get anything done. If that were the case I would set up a voice system, so that I can just speak and it will type. I need to be here in MyLot.

I think that sums it up. "I need to be here in MyLot." If it were a permanent problem I would look into a voice typing program. I know that those things have been around a while.

Yes they have and some computers like Macs have their own talk to type system. I would do that. I need to come here to MyLot everyday. I cannot see myself not being part of MyLot. But at least I have my hands.

My late husband was a one finger typist and I did wonder how he did it. I probably could do that, but for me it would take forever.

Oh, I could not do that. . not even with one finger on each hand. I think that would be harder than what I did.

I do wonder how my husband did that and he was good at it. It was just his right hand although when he was dying and could not use his finger anymore, he had this rig attached to his head and he could type that way by blinking his eyes.

As a designated cat bed, I have ended up doing that a few times... or typing with both hands but very limited range of motion so as not to disturb the cat. It's good that you donate blood platelets. There is such a need for that.

Designated cat bed. . .I am familiar with that as well. I was going to be online more last night, but the cat crawled on the portion of lap that was available and I went right to sleep. Did you know that cats bring naps?

Yep. I've gotten sidetracked from work on more than one occasion, because the cats have "infected" me with a nap.

All of my friends know that I usually post much longer discussions, and this one is short because of my hand being tied up with the needles that day.

Your post reminded me of the days when I was unable to use both hands in typing. When I was a child,my left hand was fractured and I was unable to use it as easily as I can use my right hand.It was my son who encouraged me to start using my both hands in typing.I tried, but failed. He forced and encouraged me to keep trying and if now I type with my both hands, the credit goes to him.

It's hard, but yes. When I was diagnosed with tendinitis last summer, I tried to not use my sore hand often and I did type one handed. It was tedious, but I did it..

Yes, tendonitis in all of its forms can be really painful. I have another friend who has this issue in her arms. It is hard to crochet. I often wonder if it would be worthwhile to invest in voice recognition software. Fortunately my one handedness was very temporary, only about one hour. Then I had to drive home and grab a nap so I could come to work.

addicted much? yes i would likely use only one hand if i had to. in fact when i used to give plasma i would have loved to be able to do this. but its been like many years ago i was able to

I had a hard time because of the angle I had to lift my head to see the keyboard. I would say that plasma is the only part of blood I have not donated yet. I have given whole blood, and I have given double units of red blood cells. I do the platelets really as often as I can.

Hiya GG., I cannot donate even though I do not have anemia anymore they just say no every time. So it has been ages since I offered. You are a brave one too. Can type with one hand yes but mainly use the two but not giving blood.xxx

I do not understand all the criteria for donation. I know weight, and hemoglobin, but also they ask questions about your medical past and where you have lived and what kinds of medications you currently take or have taken.

I can't even type with 2 hands! But even one handed I would probably come in and try. It would be slower going than usual but I'd try. I had a friend who donated platelets. That's a very good thing to do. He explained it to me once but I have since forgotten (along with a lot of other stuff) what he said about it. Well, you'll be two-handed again very soon no doubt. And I expect the length of your next post will be somewhat longer.

Yes, I am a rapid donor, do not know why, but I think I am the fastest donor they have. Even if they are running behind, I help catch them up. The apheresis machine takes whole blood, removes the platelets, I think with some plasma, and then returns all the other parts, like most of the plasma, all of the red blood cells, the white blood cells and some saline solution to restore the volume of blood. I go in, read the educational material, and have my vitals taken, and iron checked. I answer questions about whether I have been exposed to blood borne illness. Then they go put me in a comfy chair with heat and a TV or I can read or use wifi. I admit that I am usually more wordy.
