Once we invited my eldest sister and her family to attend dinner with us. There is some confusion and mistake by the person who takes the order. It seems two different table orders he stapled together and the kitchen missed the second page. The food arrived for the first table and almost finish yet the second table orders have not arrive. The people on the second table was so angry because they are really hungry after waited for more than an hour. They vowed not to visit this restaurant ever again. 'Hungry man is an angry man!' Have you come across this saying and its real life occurrence! Do share with us here, thank you

Yes it is true. When I am hungry my temper flare up easily. So don't mess around with a starving person or you will end up being their victim of madness.

I agree with you, do not mess around with a starving person. There was one occasion where this grandchild (an adult) and his parents decided to spend their grandma lunch. This grandma is quite elderly around 79 years old and her movement is slow. She takes quite awhile to take her bath and get ready. It is still in time for the lunch but due to massive traffic jam during weekend, she and her daughter arrived late by 40 minutes. The grandson family called and said why take so long and they are hungry. This sides tell them to go ahead. But once the granny arrived, the grandson and family face are long and angry. Hungry man are an angry man. Since that incident, the grandson NEVER invited her again!

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, why the restaurant persons are lazy like this and take a long time to serve the food? i agree with the quote, surely we will get more anger while we are in hunger. There is nothing wrong in the family's decision, this kind of restaurants are not good to take food.

This restaurant should handle this situation more diplomatically. They should quickly prepare the orders, serve and get the manager to drop by at the table and apologised. Perhaps gave them some free dessert or drinks courtesy of the restaurant. This restaurant is situated within the five star restaurant, they should have five star service for the customers. You are absolutely RIGHT!

I don't think this is limited to MEN. Any hungry person is an angry person, and when I am in a restaurant, I want what I ordered. Those places can not afford to make mistakes. One day I ordered some takeout for my husband and I. We each ordered some chicken wings, and we wanted the same BBQ sauce on them. Sadly only one order arrived. We shared the order, and then told them to deliver the 2nd order, and when that came, we shared that too! That way we both ate, and neiter one of us really had to wait.

Dear danishcanadian, glad to hear from you. Totally agree with you. Most people get angry when they are hungry irrespective of their genre, age or status. Glad that both of you are creative and find a solution rather than one person have to wait while the other person eating. Good idea, I will do that too.

Hello, I think the expression," A hungry man is an angry man " refers to both men and women. It is neutral. Just like "Reading maketh a man." It doesn't mean not woman. It is human beings as a whole. Cheers.

I do agree with this saying, When a man is hungry he can't think well, because he's stomach is aching.. hahaha . Our brain produce hormones that makes require has to eat and gain nutrients. sometimes a hungry man is get desperate that's why anger comes on..

Hahaha, the way you describe it really make me laugh. Blame the hormones I encountered a case where an impatient customers shouted at the waitress. Some restaurant are so busy they even makes mistake where they serve food to the wrong table. There is one incident a hungry customer ate the food wrongly served which he did not ordered. He just do not care because he is hungry. The restaurant have to recook the dishes for the original table. That hungry guy ate free (that noodle dish was not charged into his account).

Hahaha.., a nice example scenario for a hungry man.. Yeah, its really is true, a man would do anything if it comes to stomach. What can we do we are just human, we just need to have a little control and patience so as not to be like this man on your example.. Again.. its all about the hormones..

I absolutely agree with you that ' a hungry is an angry man.' I can imagine how your eldest and her family reacted after waiting anxiously for more than an hour. They did the right thing. Boycott that restaurant.

Well, the other table could have went to the kitchen or any personnel in the restaurant and check their orders though. Sometimes when I eat out, I noticed that my orders had not arrived even after all the others who came with me and ordered to same time got their dishes. Then, I would raise my hand and get the attention of any of the staff and ask them about my order. After that, my order is finished in minutes.

Yes, they did. We did too to follow up. However, it take ages for the food to come out. When we are waiting, times seems extra slow and long. So, the whole thing is a disaster, the dinner became not enjoyable. They (the kitchen) should proceed the order immediately when they realised this problem, or serve something for them to eat while waiting as no cost ... maybe! to make things better.

Hi Iriene, I've been on the same boat many times, and everytime it happens it's not a very pleasant experience. There was this restaurant that me and my kids always go to, and while we were happy about the food they serve, the service is a just a different story altogether. They are very slow in serving the food, and the waiters are so hard to find coz I think they are understaffed. But my kids love the food, and this resto doesn't have other branches nearby, so I don't have a choice but to endure their lousy service.

Hi doryvien, Glad to hear from you. Truly appreciate it There is one famous Pizza here in a nearby mall that I used to bring my son for a meal. The same case like yours. They are understaffed, I have to wait patiently just to get the waitress to take an order. I only go there when I have ample time, if I need a fast one, I will never go there. At times I do self service to clear the table, went to the cashier and do the payment there.

I can relate to that situation. It happens with us one time when we visit one of our usual dining restaurant. We waited for almost an hour, not until my friend check our orders and complained why the other tables who arrived late than us got their food first :duh..

Yes, we experienced that too. We noticed that the group who arrived later got their orders first. That is really unfair especially we have waited for so long. We will normally called the captain again and check for the status of the order and why the other table orders has arrived and ours not. Sometimes they will apologised and said ours is on the way. At times they will explained that the dish we ordered take longer time to prepare. There are also cases that the captain explained that the other table have ordered via telephone earlier. So once they come, the food already prepared and immediately served. So, we also did the same the next time around especially during peak hour. However, we must make sure we arrive in time if not the food won't be nice because getting cold especially Chinese fried cuisine.

Hi Professor, glad to hear from you. I understand that too because my mum also eat little but more frequently. Therefore , if the food arrive too late, she will feel hungry and she will experience stomach gastric. That is why she normally take a bite of food at home just before going to the restaurant especially for Chinese wedding dinner which hardly start punctual.

I will really get mad if I am rushing for time. I totally agree with you, the anger will be built up when you are hungry, felt mistreated where you have the right to be served first as it should be on first come first serve basis. It seems quite annoying when this leads to arguments in the restaurants.

When you are hungry then naturally when the ordered food is not received in time then a sort of irritation occurs. But i am puzzled why the people on the other table waited so long to see that the food arrived on the first table and their food not arrived. Why they have not inquired for the same immediately. They should hav contacted the concerned waiter who has taken the orders or to the floor manage for delay.

Dear roshigo58, They did inquired and the waiter apologised and went to check with the kitchen. By right the kitchen should override and proceed with the missing/misplaced order but they did not. Therefore it take longer time. They really need to improve their system and services.

I use this all the time when I teach beginner's English. They always have a hard time distinguishing between "angry" and "hungry" while listening. So I always make a joke that when you are hungry, you get angry very easily!

Yes, I think it's definitely right. I myself am this kind of person. Whenever I am so hungry, it seems like my mouth growls together with my stomach and then I wouldn't be able to think straight cause all I would ever want to do is eat already. I think the three persons you wouldn't want to mess with are drunk persons, persons who have just waken up and hungry persons.

Dear glen, yes... do not find trouble with these three category of people. Drunk people can't even remembered what they did. Worse thing is if anything happen they are not fully responsible too. Hahaha ... people who have just waken up are moody too. So stay away from them if we can. Thanks for sharing, truly appreciate it.

Yes, I can understand how the elderly man felt. He had been standing there waiting for like 'ages' and not be served! That is why, a good service need to include good customer service. I remembered once I was at a restaurant waiting for my takeaway food. The waitress quickly serve a small cup of drink for me 'free' while I am seated there waiting. It can really cool us down!

Ohhh yes this can be happened in real life also. When I was in college before 15 years. We all 11 friends(girls and boys) goes for celebrating birthday in a restaurant. There few peoples are slitted on other table. Few friends requested on the counter please serve us before because we want to go college for attending the lecture. The waiter serves our dishes first then suddenly the people of other tables got angered on the waiter and say we are still waiting and you serve to them. Waiter say them contact on counter. They goes there and shouted the manager requesting them and say we are instantly serve you wait only few minutes. Then they leave the restaurant not came back.

Yes, sometimes restaurant do use their discretion to speed up certain orders upon request. I did that once when I and my son need to have a quick dinner as our movie is starting soon. We need to eat something before the movie. The captain agreed to take our order but he did suggest the meal that can be prepared 'fast'. I believe during that time, you all sure get a shock when the other customers get angry.

No it's not the hungry man who is an angry man but the man who is not getting the service like he expects to get who is angry. I waited plenty of times over an hour for my food, but there are also restaurants who give it to you within 5 minutes and want you to leave as quickly as possible (which accordig to me is very rude since it's normal here to dine longer if you are in a restaurant, esp. for those sky high prices you have to pay). I don't think the saying does exist in my language.. we only have the expression: the love of the man goes by his stomach.

You did have the point. The guy was not pleased because of the treatment. I too have experienced where some restaurant cleared the dishes immediately and hurry their clients away so that others can sit. They wanted to make more money with higher turnover. However, we do eat faster and go off when we see a lot of customers stand outside waiting for places to dine in the restaurant. If there are no people in waiting we normally relax and chit chat after eating waiting for the food to digest...

Hi, You are right. Hungry man is an angry man. Sometimes I didn't get anyfood to eat when I am hungry then I get angry. When I go outside for some work and don't get my favorite food in the hotel or something wrong with the taste of the food I can't eat it. I feel very restless. But we should control our anger.

Totally agree with you, we should control our anger. No point getting hungry and angry at the same time. Using all the energy that is left to get angry is not worth it.. I just hope people who serve do their job properly and give a wonderful dining experience to their customers. Thanks for your wonderful comment.

Dear nguyenloan, Thanks for being the first respondent! Truly appreciate it . Yes, we get really annoyed when the restaurant makes this type of mistake. When we are hungry we will become impatience. There is one time we informed the captain to cancel order as we can't wait especially young children get very hungry and it is time for their nap. We ended up at a Chinese fast food restaurant.
