Dear mylotters Yesterday evening my hubby was on his way to home from office. He got a call from a person who claimed that he is from a bank (where my hubby holding account and credit card too). He told that a transaction for Indian rupees 7,500 done from his credit card, the money cut for a ticket . He promised to credit back the amount by giving the credit card information. Hubby provided the credit card number and 4 digits number behind the card. The caller told, you will receive a password in your mobile and he will call again to get the password. After cutting the call suddenly hubby felt some thing wrong. Usually if he uses his credit card he gets a text in his mobile with the information about the transaction. So he felt it may be fraud call. The caller again called for password, he replied to him that he is riding the bike please call after some time. Soon he reached home he called up the customer care and explained what happened with him. The customer care people told him it is a fraud call and they mentioned that somebody tried to make some transaction with his card before few minutes. Luckily he did not give the password so he saved from the fraud people. The customer care people immediately freeze his current credit card and ensured to issue a new card which will come to his address very soon. Just sharing to all of you to consider it as a warning as frauds are everywhere in the world. We never think about anything on the first instant of getting a call and we may give the details by trusting them. Precaution is always better. Any similar experiences to share? Have a great weekend to all of you. December 1, 2012.

This is again another new technique which they started following. Its really scary, the way people try very different and unique ways to fraud. I got one email recently which was liked getting a call from someone claiming that he was from mobile service provider and asked the person to shut down phone for two hours for 3g update. That person exactly followed, the way informed to him, but after few minutes, he felt suspicious since the caller did not even introduce his name. He quickly switch on mobile handset and seen several missed calls from his family (missed call alert facility was active on his number) and other calls from that number. He called his parents and was shocked that they sounded very worried and asking whether he is safe. His Parents told that they had received call from some one claiming that they had kidnapped his son and ask money to let him free. The call sounded so real and parents even heard voice crying for help, and asking for help. His parents was at bank waiting for next call to proceed for money transfer.

Sree, your hubby was very lucky that he didn't provide the password or else he would be losing money through that fraud transaction. Indeed, nowadays we should be very careful as not to fall victim to any fraud. The best is, not to give out our personal information to anyone.

Hello Mohkanari, Very true, these frauds are invisible and it is difficult to get quick alert on their expressions. Still we have to use our common sense. However, on the first instant anybody may trust it, in case one person receives such a call first time in life, so we can't blame anyone on getting trapped. Enjoy the weekend.

Hello Vidhya, Before giving reply to you I wish to ask one question to you? Thought to ask this for long time, now only got an opportunity. Why you are not starting any good topics recently. I seen your topic which were only on other sites and I have nothing to contribute there? Coming to the topic, the caller told my hubby, some transaction done on his credit and money deducted from his account. On the first instant he trust his words and given the number and other things except the password, which he received later in his mobile. Hope Darshi and kids are fine.

Yes, this type of thing is happening all the time no matter where you live in the World, and it is very important to never share important information like this with anyone. I am glad my Credit Cards notify me as does my bank if there is something out of the ordinary in a larger transaction before they will even process it. So it is a good thing your husband never shared the information they were wanting for sure.

Hi KrauseHome, Yes, the bank is also helping us to recognize the fraud transactions before completing the process. The mobile phone is using heavily for this purpose. The bank is sending a one time password to mobile, we have to enter the password then only we can complete the transaction. This approval method helped him to protect his money. Happy New Year and have a nice time.

Hi Sree dear, such similar situation happens here as well We would be trapped once lack of attention. That's why the bank authority here always reminds us not to give any confidential information especially passwords via phone or email. On one has the right to know our personal password the bank staffs as well as the authority are included. I'm glad that your husband are fortunate enough and realized in time and would be able to escape from the fraud finally Thanks for sharing the real experience to remind us to be careful and alert not to be trapped by the cheap crooks. Hope you welcome the sluggish responder lol... Happy posting and have a nice day

Hi dear, Why not, I always welcome your responses even though it is bit late. I am valuing it very much. I don't think I have to make a time frame here for you unnecessary. Regarding the topic, people become money oriented and ready to do anything to make money. We can’t trust anyone. Fortunately banks started to take the advantage of mobile service and sending one time password to finalize the transactions. It becomes very helpful to avoid fraud people from our day to day life.

Hi dear, Here the case is different dear. The caller said that, somebody used his credit card for booking ticket and money debited from his account. The caller told that he will help to credit back the amount if he gets the card number and the 3 digit number behind the card. You know if we do any transaction online by using credit card, they will send a one time password to our mobile. We should provide that password to the site then only the transaction possible. Here the person needed the password which comes to the mobile number of the owner of the credit card, so he called and said all these things. Have you reached the payout dear?

Hi Shavkat, Yes, it is the matter of common sense, will anyone offer large amount of money to us. I do receive such messages in mail and texts in mobile too. One of my colleague also received a text and sent a mail to them without listening my warning. Later they asked some money and the person understood the reality.

Hi sreekala. First of all I am glad that your husband was able to dodge of the trouble.. I think in these kind of cases unless and until the call is from a toll free number I will never talk about my bank details. And even if it was from a toll free number I would never share my password over internet or mobile. If I have to share it with someone than I do it in person only. Anyways thanks for spreading awareness. Have a nice day ... +SuperShames+

I think his attention was much diverted at that time. Only he realized the wrong signal on asking the password. Take care and have a nice day.

Hi friend!Oh dear I do get same phone calls of that sort but I don't and would never ever allow scammers to get one over me. It is just so easy to spot them. They'd ask for a password or would ask you some money. It's good your husband did not give his password all at once. It would be a big, big mistake to entrust our passwords to any caller just like that. In the first place, no bank would even ask the password. Scammers are all over and won't stop till there are people who allowed themselves to be cheated. So beware everyone!

Thank you for the information. And thank you for letting us know. Wow, these scammers are pretty much trying to do anything just to scam out people out of their money. No matter what it takes. They are sure going through great lengths. Anyway, I am glad that your hubby got everything taken care of and called up customer service to verify that it was a fraud. Good thing he took a moment to think about things and how his card works. . Otherwise he would have been scammed out of a lot of money.

Hi didi Lucky me, I dont have a credit card... so no one would call me to fix those mistakes But yes, didi, what you are telling is quite right. Frauds always keep trying finding out new ways to cheat people. earlier they used emails wherein they would send out exactly similar forms as on the banks website, so that people would be their victims (and in fact many fell as victims) - one of my friends lost about a lakh of INR. Then when people started to be aware, these frauds started out something else and now, debit cards and such calls. My bankers have explicitly told me that they will never ever ask me or their customers about the Card Numbers, Account Numbers or even the PIN numbers. They have mentioned to me that if anyone asks (even their customer support), the matter must be reported. And we are NOT to provide any information except our Customer ID if asked by the Customer Care. We should follow the advice given out by the bankers.

Hello Sidhu, Yes, bankers are taking maximum care to avoid fraud transactions with their customers. Now they are sending one time password to mobile numbers of the card holders to ensure the safety. Here hubby was not in position to think all those things. He was on the busy road and I knew he might have stopped his bike thinking the call is from home. Anyway nothing went wrong as he shows his presence of mind at the last moment. The next day morning he got calls again asking the address, he told that 'I will call and talk to the customer care'. Now he won't share any information again through calls that is sure.

I am glad that your hubby was able to call the bank right away. Please be advised that if callers are asking for personal information over the phone or online, this are most likely a fraudulent act. Its so sad that there a lot of people who loves to cheat other people. It is basically stealing what is not really yours. I am glad that everything is fine now.

Hello chiwasaki, It is a sad situation indeed when people love to cheat others. Now they have advanced technology to get success quickly. A person who doesn't have much knowledge about these kinds of cheating will easily fall in the cheater's net. Thankfully my hubby saved greatly from huge debts.

I was fooled once also. It is not in the form of call but in the form of common friends. When I was in college, I need a personal computer for my studies and my friend told me that she know someone who is selling her computer. So I agreed to buy it because it is a second hand. The owner of the computer did transact with me then. She gave all the details and specification of her computer and I agreed with the price. My stupidity was I gave the money first and I never seen the computer. She said she will just deliver the unit. But then weeks came, still there was no delivery and I kept on calling on the owner but her digits can not be reached already. So I blamed my self why I trust that easy that stranger. That's a big lesson for me.

Hi kokomo, You wanted to pay the money only after the delivery. But it seems you trusted the person and your friend also involved to help you for buying the computer. If you can get the address you can go and ask directly. We are learning from experiences. We can’t undo the mistakes but learning from it.
