Looking for an ark

East coast got battered, now it's California's turn. We got clobbered by two heavy storms already, and now the heaviest one is scheduled to come in tonight. The one two days ago made puddles so big that my shoes and socks were soaked going to lunch. The one yesterday caused a waterfall in my dentist's backyard that was so big he posted pictures of it on Facebook. Wonder what tonight's storm will bring. Hope it doesn't clobber us too hard. Guess I had better make sure I know where the flashlight, candles and matches are just in case...

It is always better to go into disaster mode as you just never know what will happen. Make sure all cell phones are charged and that you have a full tank of gas. Put perishable food into freezer and FORBID anyone to open freezer so food stuffs do not spoil. If water supply is likely to be disrupted due to lack of electricity then lake sure all containers are full of water and make sure that you have enough drinking water too. Disposable plates and cutlery plus disposable cups for hot and cold drinks is also recommended. I usually keep thermos flasks full of hot water too - a just-in-case strategy Best of luck - I do hope that you will all be safe. Take care

I know, I know, I do tend to over react but have had some bad experiences so can go into survivor's mode in seconds But best of luck

We are getting rain here and snow in the mountains. SunValley already has several inches of snow and so does Brundage. Snow bunnies will be out soon. I don't ski but would love to go for a snow sled ride. With the silver bells and over the hills to hot totty heaven! yum!

I hope to have at least one hot toddy tonight, if my friend comes over for cards and brings the rum.

@BarBaraPrz= You are lucky. @Dawnald- Yes, snow. We are getting it where we need it and just rain down here. I live in a valley so usually luck out on the snow. We used to have alot of snow but not so much anymore. And barely enough in the mountains so we are usually in a drout and the bush starts on fire easily in the heat of late Summer. Ugh!

So the middle of the country is as dry as a bone and you guys are hogging all the moisture. We need a pipeline this way from each of the coastal regions.

That is why my sinuses are burning. They are hogging all the moisture.

Better safe than sorry right? I hope you do not need the flashlight, candles, and matches though.

Matches? They still make matches? I haven't seen any in a long time. About 4 years ago, east central Illinois and west central Indiana had a rain that was hard and steady for at least 10 hours. As a result, there was a flood that covered a wide area.

I hope all is good with you and the storm did not get too bad. I hate these large storms, they are doing so much damage.

At least it's just rain. As we used to say in Vancouver, you don't have to shovel rain. We got wet snow yesterday here in Hamilton, but it really didn't amount to much, maybe an inch, and it was rather mild today so a lot has melted. It's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow and through the week -- double digits, even.

Oh we got that a few weeks ago with Hurricane Sandy. Luckily nothing here turned out as bad as predicted. I live in a flood area and was a bit nervous. We were actually told by public service to have a small bag packed in the event of evacuation. This was two days ago that you posted this....hope it didn't get so bad. I love storms but only until they reach a point where they are seriously compromising peoples lives. Losing power is fun as long as you have alternative heat which Ido. Still, losing it at this time of year, even though I stay warm, I do worry about those that can't.

Where I live we have unseasonal warm weather! Like near 60 the past few days! We have been getting some rain but it makes me wonder how long will we wait for snow this season! It just is not really winter with out the snow! I hate when I have to drive in it and the shoveling out! That is the bad sside! I do love seeing the snow on everything! It feels more like Christmas when we do have snow! It is also not normal like it used be when I was younger! Thanks to global warming winter is not what it used to be! Hope you survive the latest storm out west!

You know what the really funny thing about all of this is? We here in the middle part of the country haven't really had all that much rain. I mean, we have definitely had our share of weather anomalies this year with the extreme heat and drought that we faced during this year, but I wouldn't even think of building an ark right now. I certainly hope that you weren't clobbered too bad with the most recent storm that you've experienced in your area.

Wow - you guys sound more wet than us! It's been raining here (much needed!), but not super heavy (yet). We "were" going to go to the Magic Mountain Toy Drive this weekend but doesn't look like we will (it's also next weekend if you happen to be down here). We discovered this morning that with all this rain, new grass has actually started to sprout in our dirt land. Fancy that - we've been talking about putting in new grass - and all the dirt needed was some water - ha ha. Best of luck if it turns into a monsoon up there!!

It rained pretty constantly, but nothing too scary.
