Regular office job versus online job

Sometimes, I'm thinking of giving up my job in order to focus on online work. But I am scared at the thought of not having fixed monthly income if I give up my regular office job. But I am excited at the possibilities and opportunities that an online job can bring, plus the luxury of working at home. :) How about you myLotters? Have you tried both? Which is better, having a regular office job, or an online work? I am thinking of taking a risk and focusing on online jobs. :)

I have had both jobs and I can say that it is still best to have a regular job. Online jobs can make us comfortable working at home but we do not know how long we can be able to maintain the job that we started unless you have come across a boss which would let you sign a contract for at least a year or two. But I do know somebody who has been working online for the past 5 years and has really managed to earn a lot ---- enough to send her kids to school and was able to make their house bigger. I felt envious of her achievements, but it really took her a lot of time to be able to reach that status. She was like sleeping for only 4 hours in a day for several years. She had her online jobs via Odesk. She would have atleast 3 different jobs in a day. She started with a rate of $3/hr. Now, her rate is $20/hr!

Thanks jenny1015. Reading your comments here encourages me more to seek online jobs. I believe I can maintain both, I just hope I will find something else that will help me earn online. As of the moment, it is just myLot. :)

I got my online jobs via Odesk, too. You might want to make an account on that site. There are a lot of jobs posted everyday. I just got lucky to have 2 employers who took me in both for 6 months each. I just stopped my online job when I got sick coz I became a workaholic that time. Everything was new to me and I always wanted to know something new and also I wanted to do a lot of things in a day, not really to impress the bosses I had but for them to know that I am enthusiastic about my job.

I would never give up a real job to work online. I need to know exactly how much money I am making to pay my bills. Please don't give up your day job!

I agree we should never do that. Offline job is always better.

Thanks for the response! :) That's it precisely, I need to know how much I am earning (in advance) so that I will know if I can pay the bills.

Actually, I have tried both. I really prefer working for myself or doing stuff online. I actually have my own business and sell online, offline and work for someone else. I also do shows and events around the area in my free time as well. I would love to be my own boss full time, but need the medical, plus for now, not making enough to be independent as well.

Thanks for this discussion, i will advise you never to resign from your regular office job; there you get money every month. If you have time you can work in online sites for bonus income.

Well, you have to know first how much the online job would give you on a monthly basis and compare it with a regular job. Then, maybe if you have determined who pays more and is on a regular basis, then you also must consider if you like it that you only have the computer to be with you all the time. Me, i will never give up my regular job, because it's really what i love, aside from giving me a fixed regular salary. In addition, i like to be with real people and mingle with them. I love working because i love the office mates i work with. There's never a dull moment in the office, because everybody seems to be always having a happy disposition.

As for me,I will surely choose to work in an office instead of front of my computer at home. It's OK for me to stay at home without real contacts with anyone for a week. While I may be crazy if I stay at home more than a week by myself.I need contacts with others. No matter how rich I will be in the future or anything else,I will always go outside to work.

I can't make a living if I work online. Since the earning is just pretty little. I prefer to have the regular office job much more since the salary is stable. Besides, you can contact with others and you will not be so outdated to the society. The online job just gives me a little extra earning only. I can't depend on it.

A regular office job gives us a fixed income. Atleast we know what we will be getting at the end of the month. This is not the case with online income. I too have at one time thought of online work but did not find anything lucrative.

I hope you've reconsidered and stuck with your office job! Aside from working so hard to get to that kind of work, not to mention passing the bar, I think that this fixed income profession would be worth more than anything online in the long run. Online on the side is good, but I don't think it spells security.

No no don't ever leave your offline job.we never know when any site turns scam here (online job) .Its always better to rely on offline job. I am working offline. I am also working online but that's very little what i get. so i really cant rely on this.

I would rather not give up my offline job if I were you, since you know that you gain fixed income with regards to your workload. I’ll still stick up with my online job but have it as a part time income since we don’t know if we will make it or break it in the world of online earnings.
