Do you pay a bill amount that someone just says that you owe or do you require to see the bill? I live in a home where the utility bills are in the owners name.He won't show me some of the bills and just tells me that I have to give him whatever he says! How do you pay bills?

If the bill is kept hidden from me, why should I pay the amount the owner insists? Most probably, there's something I don't know especially the basis of his computation and it's not the question whether you trust the owner or not, you have the right to ask for the bill since you are the one who has the consumption.

He needs to show you those bills. How does he get away with all this dishonesty?

I like holding them in my hand so I can see how much they really are. Your landlord should do the same. You might be getting bilked by him.....charged more then your share.

I get my bills in the mail and I pay the amount that is on the bill. I would want to see the actual amount owed before forking over the money for a bill from that landlord of yours. He is probably splitting it just between you and the roommate and paying nothing.

I wish I got the bills in the mail. When I was renting a whole house I did.He probably is not paying nothing.First he says that he is paying them all. That my roomate is paying none of them. Then he turns around and says that them two are paying and I am not paying anything.

hi, for me it will depend upon the type of bill,if that is water and electric bill of course i need to see first the bill breakdown so that i would know where it came from, but when that is a postpaid plan bill such as internet and telephone i don't need now to see the breakdown.

Doesn't that seem like a little red flag..? I guess my advice is try to ask for the bill every time he asks you for money. and I mean really insist on it. if he keeps refusing, it's better to move out. trust me, you don't want to get involved in those kinds of things - especially if u have a family.

I will calculate the money by myself. If the person's requirement is near what I have calculate, I will give him/her the money. If I feel the money is far from my calculation, I will ask him/her show me the bill, then make a desicion about it. In most cases, the money is always near my calculation.

Well, I always check the bills before I pay them. But normally, I pay online on most of my bills. I was able to connect my bank for my billings so when it's time to pay, I just go online and pay. There is no hassle at all as all I need is see the bill and pay online.

Does he live there if not he should have t o show you the bill. I wo uld demand that that be done so yo u know that he is not inflating that bill.

Hi Hatley, Yes he does live here and the bills are in his name. The only bill that I have access to online is the electric bill and he did not give us that information till November 6th.I paid on December 3rd(when my check came)for September and October. Then he removed the bills off the table. And I asked him to put them back and he said he lost them. Then he emailed me the information so I could access the electric bill. Now he is saying that I owe more for the September bill(which I don't) November,December and have to pay January's bill ahead of time.

If I'm in your position, I would insist on seeing the bill. I wouldn't just take his word for it. Perhaps he should install a separate meter for you so that you're able to pay your bills yourself without him having to ask it personally from you. That should be a better option.

If you're in a lease and you can't get out and he can't get you out, you really don't have to pay anything unless he shows you the bills. And if you do pay anything, insist on a receipt. Get your fellow tenants to do the same. Then, as a group, demand to see the bills - all of them.

I pay bill after scrutinizing it thoroughly. comparing with previous bill. Because most of time authority people also commits error. Just to pay fair amount I take proper care.

Hi dfollin, I would pay the amount shown on the bill when it reaches me. Certainly payment would do after I have made sure that I'm the true owner of the bill Happy posting

When I lived with roommates, the amount that I paid included utilities. Don't you have some sort of agreement with him in advance, so that you only pay the same amount each month? We're in an apartment, and the electric bill is out of control! I thought it was the TV, but I took a look at the bills from the last couple of months and it appears to be the heaters (that don't really work).

I try to pay them before they are due or at least on the day they are due, that way I can avoid paying any late fees. There have been a few instances where I was late and the fees were outrageous (for example I was charged something like $60 for a $20 dollar bill). So, I do my best to avoid those fees. As for paying someone else's bill, there was a time my husband and I did without looking at the bills. But then again we were splitting the bills with his parents, so we didn't have much say. However, it wasn't all bad. After all, there were times that we couldn't pay our share of the bills, so they took care of it (and we made sure to do the same). Nowadays, if I were to do that, I'd like to see the bill first, before handing over the money. That, and pay by check. That way I can keep tabs on it (as well as show proof) of what bills I paid. Unfortunately you can't do that with cash. Not unless you get it in writing, that is. Even then, that may not hold up in court. When it comes to cash it's hard to prove it. Happy mylotting!

No, you should not be paying any bills without seeing the statement. I suggest that you enlist the help of an attorney to get things sorted. Sue this guy for everything you possibly can. There are other housing options, and he cannot hold you to the lease when he has repeatedly violated your rights as a tenant. I'm certain that an attorney could not only get you out of the lease but help you to recover any monies that should rightfully be yours (i.e., for overpayment of bills that he refused to show you). I am not happy with my current rental situation, so I am looking for a way out. No, it's not easy, but it is sometimes necessary. I had gone from one situation that was mediocre to being in a situation that I thought would be good, but the landlords turned out to be Mr. Spineless and Ms. Micromanaging B****. Not exactly a situation that makes me happy, so I will do my best to find my way out of it.

I would have thought that if you are contributing to paying the bills you should have the right to see the bill.If I was expected to pay with out seeing the bill I would be very suspicious unless it was one of the few people I trust implicitly. At the moment I don't have any household bills to pay as they are all included in my rent.Though I will have to pay bills in the house I will be moving into with 4 of my friends.I plan for us all to see the bills and pay them at of a joint account that we all contribute the same amount into and takes more than one of us to access.

I always see a bill before I pay it, as you never know if you are paying more than you should. I would demand to see the bill, as you can not pay for things that you may have not used at all and all you are doing is lining another persons pocket.
