Christmas

I have just bought a Christmas Tree, it is an artificial one but rather well made and not too expensive. The real trees this year are very expensive and it was hard to find anything the right size and shape. It feels as though Christmas is getting close when the tree is decorated and lit. I love to sit in a darkened room that is lit only by the Christmas tree and, if I am really lucky, a fire blazing in the fireplace. I usually do not get that unless the weather is cold or it is actually Christmas. When the decorations come down the tree is the last thing to go, I always feel a little sad about that and the room looks bare once it has gone. It is such a long wait to the next Christmas.

41CombedaleRoad More and more people are getting artificial tress. It used tyo be a 'no-no' you HAD to have a real tree or it just wasn't authentic... LOL I will admit I too felt that way at one time...then I had children. They wanted the tree up earlier and earlier and since it would dry out if I put a real one up too early, I broke down and bought an artificial one. I missed the smell... so I now buy a real wreath and hang it on the fireplace so the scent is always there. In fact this year I bought one for only 7.99. at Walmart.I thought that was a bargin since I used to pay almost 14.99 for the same size....... Some people vist tree lots and can pick up some branches for free or a litle amount of money. The scent is important and for me Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas..whichever you prefer...

I think your suggestion of buying a real wreath has solved a problem for me. My husband is complaining already that our new artificial tree does not smell. I have cut some myrtle and put that in the room but it does not quite do the trick. I shall go and sniff a few wreaths now...just for him

I have a small artificial tree. I don't have room for a large tree. My children have grown and flown the nest, so don't need a large tree to put lots of big gifts under the tree. Last year, I bought a bouquet of greenery and that make my apartment smell so nice. Real Christmas trees are indeed so expensive but there are alternatives, such as a bouquet of greenery to getting that fresh 'Christmas tree smell' for your home. I bought lights for my mantle. My mantle really looks nice decorated with Christmas ornaments and Christmas lights. I think people should leave their outside Christmas lights up all winter long. And call them, winter lights - just to brighten the dark winter nights. Perhaps, I will start a new trend - Winter lights!

I have had an artificial tree since I had children 25 years ago. I was so afraid of fire with those precious babies sleeping. My husband and I discussed it and decided it was really silly and a bit morbid to murder a tree so that we could dress up its corpse and keep it inside for two weeks. So we switched to artificial and I'm really content with that choice even now. No tree for me this year. I have lights on the mantle and my nativity scene and that's enough since I'll be alone for Christmas. Putting up the tree seems a bit over the top since it'll be just me and the dogs! One thing I like about New Year's is the tree being put away. Although I love the tree for those two weeks, taking it down symbolizes a new beginning, a sweeping away of the last year, packing away lessons learned and wrapping up memories. Clean slate, and the living room always looks so much bigger for a day or so!

Yoyu have a much more sensible attitude about putting away the tree! I shall try to remember this when I put mine away in January. I hope you have some doggie treats for your pets, they may be your only company this year but they will give you some pleasure I am sure.

I live in an apartment and never have had a real tree. I have a small artifical one. I have not gottan it out in like 20 years. I have not decorated for Christmas in 19 years! The only one who will see it but for me! So I don't waste me time with that. I lost my Christmas spirit along time ago and docarating will not help bring it back!

Hi, I never have Chirstmas tree or any stuff to decorate my house. Just it's not popular here. Vietnam still has many poor families. So, we enjoy Chirstmas time by going out side or watch Chirstmas on TV. :)

Much as I wanted to have my own Christmas tree at home, I must admit that I was not able to prepare this time. I have been very busy because of some work related matters. Well, anyway, with a Christmas tree or not, Christmas will always be in our hearts. Merry Christmas!

We always have an artificial one, mainly because of the needles you constantly find on the floor or embedded in the carpet even months after the tree has been taken down, it's also better for the environment not to cut trees down just so you can have a real one. In all of my 40 Christmases we have only ever had one real one and we vowed to stick to artificial ones, besides it's much cheaper, artificial ones you can use year after year after year, our one is about 7 years old, real ones you have to buy new every year and don't last and what do you do with it once Christmas is over?

Hello Combedale. This will be the first year that a tree wasn't put up where I live. I live with my daughter and her three girls. It is the responsibility of the girls to take care of the tree and inside and Dad the lights and decorations on the out side. They decided they didn't want to have to put the decorations away. When I was helping to raise two of my grandchildren for my son we sometime would go to a tree arm to get a live tree around Thanksgiving time. The kids would get to pick out the tree and sometimes the tree was a little skimpy on the branch side. While getting the tree the farmer would provide hot apple cider or hot chocolate. The kids thought it was great fun getting to cut down the tree them selves. after the decorations came down and were put away, the tree went into the lake for fish to hide in. When the decorations and tree were all put away the living room felt so empty. I have a few things that i put up in my room to make it feel Christmassey.

I have not gotten any real decorating done this year. Time just gets away from me somehow. I have brought all the decorations in from the shed, and got a Christmas table cloth out, and a small tree. I want to go through and organize all of my decor and change how I store it this year.

What I like the best about Christmas trees is the time one spends with loved ones decorating them. We have a big collection of decorations, some made by my children when they were in school, others given to us by my mother when she came to visit us from Canada, friends who came from Brazil and our Austrian relatives too. I used to celebrate the season in summer when I was in Peru and Australia and also in winter during the time we lived in Austria.

Our christmas tree went up a week early this year, it looks grand in the corner of the room. The lights shine bright and as you say it will look bare when it all comes down. We take stuff down on the 2nd Jan so everything is tidied away before hubby returns to work after his week off over the christmas period

We got a four foot one for $15 this year. It has irredescent bulbs on it that look like lights. I thought a fake one and then candles that smell of pine would be nice this year. Its too bad we can't Christmas around the entire year. And it would be nice if the mood of the season would stick around too. Happy holidays.
