"It is very difficult to walk backwards because our feet are designed to make us move forward." Life becomes better if we see what is ahead than look what is left behind. Move on. Forgive. Love! Happy holidays everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying the time with loved ones!

On that note, I would say that is never to early to start to set our sights upon the New Year. Minus well get a head start on planning for the New Year. Then, we will have a plan that will assist us to continue to move forward in our lives. This plan of setting goals for the New Year can keep us on track, so that we continue to look forward rather than back over our shoulder. Since I am not celebrating the commercialized holiday that is fast approaching, I will just say "Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with joy, peace, happiness, and prosperity."

(Mom )Jenny: The thought did not originally come from me. I just saw it somewhere and tried to reword it to make it more simple and clearer. Thank you anyway and I really do hope that it will bring an inspiration to readers. Also thank you for 'assuming' that I'm a good person haha! aireanna: Hi! Thank you for responding. It's really helpful to set a certain goal because it will keep us stay on the right track. It serves as a guide to us. Anyway, why are you not celebrating the holidays?

Why am I not celebrating the holiday? I guess it seems like odd behavior especialy when everyone seems to celebrate the holiday. Well, let's see I have not celebrated them for about 8 years now. The last time that I celebrate Christmas. The boyfriend and I decorated the tree on the weekend of our first anniversary. I decorated the apartment with homemade decorations and made a meal that we had for our Christmas celebration with my baby brother shortly before the Christmas Holiday. That was the last time that I saw my baby brother seeing as I am estranged from my mother because I refuse to play her games or put up with the emotional abuse that she dishes out. That year, I drove up to Phoenix to spend the Holidays with my father. Well, it only took the new step-mother three months to cause that relationship to deteriorate. My father could not handle my honesty that I shared that he never had been much of a father and his second chance at it, he decides that his new wife and what she wanted was more important. Oddly, it was because of him that I moved up here to Phoenix. They were never really there for me, so I have been pretty much on my own for several years now. I vowed the next time that tree went back up me and my boyfriend would be together sharing the holiday. Well, he kept saying he would move up here, but he never did move to Phoenix. I did dream of sharing the holiday with him this year and meeting his family finally. That dream was shattered in November when he decided to end the relationship after almost 9 years. We are trying to stay friends. The odd thing was that he asked me if I had put the tree up this year, and I said no. He of course did not realize that he asked that insensitive question on the weekend of our anniversary when once a long time ago we had decorated it together on that same weekend. I just could not face putting up the tree. I keep saying maybe next year. Even if I wanted to celebrate the holiday, there is no money for that luxury. I have been unemployed trying to find a job since September. The only thing that I wanted for the holiday was to get a job. Well, the one prospect that I had from a job interview from November they recommended another canidate for the position which I found out this past week that news. That means another month of trying to scrape together just enough money to pay the bills. I keep working online just trying to make some extra money. So, it is just me and Tigger. It does not seem like there is much to celebrate other than the mere fact that I have managed to somehow survive through what has been one of the worst years ever. The other day I found out that my ex-boyfriend is in the hospital with what could be a deadly infection. Thank God! He texted today that the infection that they feared could spread to his spine and brain had stopped spreading. This year has been the most challenging and difficult that I have ever endured in my life. I am ready for a New Year. I am hoping and preying that New Year brings with it a reprive from this unrelenting year that has only been filled with heartache, disappointments, and every challenging aspect of life that I could ever imagine. Sorry for rambling on so long. This is why I am not celebrating the holidays.

That is so true, we can't live in the past, we can't wish we could turn back and change things and make things better, we can only look forward, not back and learn from our mistakes, if we look back we should do it with acceptance, that we cannot change what's has past but do things differently when we look forward. Happy holidays to you to my friend.

I do that before when i was a kid. But this is about moving ahead after having some disappointments and other things that hinder us to live life. I think that sometimes we just tend to give in to our feelings and do that. Although we should not , so I am trying to move forward also now. Not easy but I know it is what I should do and not waste time .

Every kid does that, walking backwards! Haha It's fun actually. Past bad experiences can really be a hindrance to our lives. But when taken positively, it will become a real help to us. Moving forward in tough situations is not really easy but moving backwards is more difficult. I hope that you keep going, keep it slow if you need to, but be sure to keep moving on.

First of all, I would like to say that it is not that difficult to walk backwards it just takes a little practice. If you, ever learned to dance then you have learned how to walk backwards. In addition from days working in schools with children, I have tended to master the art of walking backwards because you frequently need to keep your eye on the line of students rather than upon the destination. Just have to remember where obstacles are like poles or benches to keep from walking into them. I have seen some teacher do this before ouch! Sometimes with some you can come up with a strategy to even overcome this hazard. I was teaching an afterschool class, and I had this one student that just needed to walk right next to the teacher. I end up giving him the job of lookout since he was walking facing forward right next to me, and I was walking backwards so I could managed the line of 14 - 20 students. It worked out well because it gave the student a sense of purpose that helped to keep him out of mischief. As far as life goes, I will admit it is best to continue to move forward. Life gives us heartaches and problems, but we cannot get stuck in the mess. The only way to avoid becoming stuck is to continue moving forward with a positive outlook that around the next corner could be just the break that we need, while striving not to think of all the other possibilities that could also be lurking around the corner. If we hold our head up high and stride forth with confidence we can meet the world head on with a spirit of overcoming any obstacle that life wants to fling into our path.

Your first paragraph made me laugh. Well, we have one person with the tutorial on turning your head 69.5 degrees. Now, I am saying that it possible to walk backwards with enough practice. Maybe, we took the words a tad literal, but still I think we got the point. You are right we have to find a way of not letting the past control us. Little by little I am getting there. I am striving to stay positive even though it would be easier to think of all the worst cause scenarios right now. Then again, thinking positive serves more good than worrying over what might happen next.

Yeah, I know that you know all these things and how to deal with such real bad situations because you are a teacher, and before I knew you're a teacher you already had my respect to be honest so what can I say...ha ha. I just wish you all the best!

Hi! Thank you for sharing! I agree with you, practice will help in everything you wanna learn, not just walking backwards haha. I never thought that someone's gonna take it literally, but you do really have a point. Maybe for special purposes we can walk backwards, but using it as the "default" walking style will give you real trouble. Haha The problem of so many people is letting themselves be controlled by the past and almost forgetting what is ahead of them. I can not really tell because we have our own different struggles but I just hope that everyone will have a positive thoughts about life. Stay positive!

Good quote ! I agree that move backwards is hard so it can be reminder for us to see what ahead (future) and not the past. It's almost new years soon, we can always thinking and plan about future, don't be bitter with past mistake but learn from them, make them a lesson and try to make something better than yesterday. I have seen the sms of this, the continuation of this sentence will be: "Let's move on and forget the past the bitterness grudges hatred & pain FORGIVE LOVE and SMILE"

The new year is almost here! That means that I can finally put behind the year 2012, which has been down right a brutal year. I feel like the only thing that I have managed to do this year is survive. So, I am looking forward to the coming of a new year that is bright with endless possibilities. I am already thinking about goals to get my life back on track, and begin to move forward through life with a new purpose. How about you have you already begun thinking about goals for the new year? Are you anticipating the coming of a new year with excitement for the endless possibilities and opportunities that a new year brings us?

Randomarts: Thank you for giving a meaningful continuation to the quote I shared above. Just get over with the past and make sure not to repeat it again. Areanna: I'm sorry to know you had a brutal year, I don't get it exactly but you must have been undergone so many tough situations this 2012 but what matters most now is how you're going to start the new year. I hope you stay positive and be better this coming 2013.

Thanks for the very nice reminder that we should not look to the past which cannot be changed, but to plan for the future which we can determine. I am with loved ones for the holiday and my holiday began two days ago. If the snowstorm strands me here, I will be able to extend my holidays up to three more days. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

such a lovely realizations. but hey, we can turn our heads back at 69.5 degrees though, it was designed that way so that we can still look behind and be reminded what path made us stumbled and fell, and where we stood up again. We need to see also the past, though it is history we can still learn from the mistakes and good actions we have done from the past. Did you know why we have two arms and with a hand and 5 fingers on each? So that we can balance as we are walking on the path. Merry Christmas.

Mavic, wow! I did not realize that the human head was designed to allow you to turn your head that much. I have neck issues from an old work injury, so I try not to turn my head like that as it only aggravates an old injury. Yes, it is good to look back as long as the looking back is reflective. It is one thing if the gently look back over your shoulder takes you one step back with it assisting to rocket you forward 3 or 4 steps. Just as long as the progress that we gain by looking back is greater than the time that we lose in glancing backwards. I mean sometimes you can get stuck in looking backwards saying that you want things to be like the old days rather than facing the future. So just as long as it is not one step forward two steps backwards, I think it is fine to look over our should from time to time. We need to strive to live in the present, while looking to the future. I think Miss Charlotte in Gone with the Wind sometimes had the right idea when she would say that she would worry about that tomorrow, and live today.

Thanks Allison. yes, you can.. no old no young... I thought it is just 45 degrees too... you can do it... I tried it and I did... I am old too. OK this is how to do the 69.5 degrees head turn.... straighten your spinal cord (back).. shoulders follow a bit back, then look at the back.... you will see the rest from the 45degrees. that reminds me... so to turn to 69.5 degrees behind you, you need to stand tall and be proud... and look behind. (hmmm does that make sense?)

Thank you for your share. We surly cannot start our lives again or walk backwards. So we need to move on with much encourge and we'd better set a schedule so that it would not be easy to regret. As we go straight along,so we need to cherish the things we have in the present.Have a nice day.

That is interesting thought because so often we want to fix every mistake, and this actually has more of a negative effect upon things than rather learning from the lesson and moving forward. Any good strategies that you can share for setting a schedule? I am trying to improve with time management and schedule, so that I can be more productive. The one thing that I am slowly learning is that you cannot get everything done in a day or everything that is on your schedule; then you just need to strive to do the priorities and reschedule those items that are of lower priority to another day. This seems to be helping me feel more of a sense of calm that I can plan it all out, but if the plan does not quite work out the way that I had hoped the contingency is that I can reschedule somethings to the next day, next open slot, or move them to the following week.

Yes, I suppose that accepting the fact that we made the mistake. Vowing to do better in the future as we have learned from that particular mistake. Forgiving ourselves for the mistakes that we made, and moving on is most likely the best course of action.

Sunshinesophie: Hi there! Courage is really important in life. If we allow ourselves to be destroyed by our past mistakes then it's like we are destroying our own lives. Having a goal is important as it will give us guidance. Aireanna: We can not really fix every single mistakes we have made. Maybe we can fix some but not all. Accepting it will help more I guess.

That is an interesting thought to ponder. I think that if that is happenning you need to stop to reset your goals because something is fundamentally wrong if you are just going through the motions without those actions being something that increases your hapiness in life.

The trick is using our heart to lead us to our dream, while using our brain to plot a logical course to the destination that our heart desires.
@devonavis (1854)

23 Dec 12
Homeymama: If that's the case then there's gonna be a big problem. You have to balance everything, take everything into consideration. One of the most reasons why people are being hard up to move on is the heart. We should not forget that we also brains and so we should use it. Aireanna: I agree with you. If this happens then the person should stop going for a while and reset everything.

That's a great thought Devon. Thank you for posting this topic. I have walked backwards as well as forwards. I like to walk back wards because if I don't have eyes in the back of my head. Now then, life pulls us forward and it's all good, but walking backwards helps to keep that life balance. We never want to make the same mistakes or repeat the mistakes we made previously, so it's good to keep them simmering a little bit as reminders.
