This is why I hate my breathing treatments and don't want to take them!

I just got done taking my breathing treatment a few minutes ago. I have two ampules of medication that I have to squirt into the nebulizer and then inhale it until it is all gone. The side effects are CRAZY! I am shaking like a leaf right now inside. My fingers feel like they are dancing on these keys right now, because they are trembling so much. My face is feeling numb, and my lips are trembling right now. I feel like I have a body full of worms wriggling all over inside of me giving me terrible tremors. But I will take them just the same, so that my doc won't get onto me the next time. He said that any sickness like the flu could cause me to have another serious respiratory event like last time, so I need to take these treatments and my inhaler as a preventive measure. He did say if I am doing well in the spring when the pollen counts are high, he may lower my medication if I am symptom free. I am hoping for that. I am hoping that I can be totally without medication and still have healthy lungs.

Have you talked to your doctor about your reaction? Two ampules may be too much. My husband uses a nebulizer and only uses one ampule for each treatment.

The two amps are two different meds mixed for the treatment. I didn't take any caffeine today and I shook a little bit but not as bad as before. I didn't say anything because it us the same treatment that I had in the hospital. I tolerated them then. I think it's the caffeine that intensified my symptoms.

Caffeine can definitely affect one's nervous system. One place where I used to work provided free coffee for employees. I would drink coffee all day, but it got to where it made my hands shake. Now that I'm retired, I rarely drink coffee, or anĀ„ other caffeinated beverage.

Hi PointlessQuestions. I have bronchial asthma. It surfaced when I was 10 years old and I'm 20 now. For the first few years of having asthma, it was really hard. I had to use my nebulizer everyday just like what you did and those medicines. And ya I hate those. They're like depressants or something lol. After taking them, I feel so light like my head's floating sometimes. When I look at my fingers, they're shaking and they're numb like the only thing I should do is lay on the bed and sleep it off.

I am so sorry PQ, as you know, I can kind of relate to this when I experienced my first bronchitis a few weeks ago and the inhaler also cause the jitters.. Though I only had shaky hands, I didn't have it as bad as you, I hope that spring comes quickly for you..

I have heard that about those treatments, although I have not had to take them. You might try a protein snack right before, and then avoid caffeine until after the treatment, because the symptoms are the same as too much caffeine. Keep doing what it takes to stay healthy.

Well, that sounds like a lot of fun... Which is worse? The condition or the cure? I have a mild case of asthma and have a puffer but only use it when absolutely necessary because it gives me a headache.

You might want to mention the side affects you are feeling to your doctor. While I don't doubt for a moment that the treatments are necessary and beneficial it seems that you may be getting too much medicine at each treatment. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage so you can tolerate the treatments better. Overdosing on that medicine would be just as dangerous as not taking the treatments at all. When my husband was alive sometimes the doctors would prescribe medications for him that didn't work quite like they were intended. An alert caregiver is sometimes needed to see how the patient is reacting to the meds to see if the dosage needs adjusting or perhaps changed to a different medicine all together. Talk to your doctor.

I absolutely hate side effects, most doctors dont understand unless they have bee through it. I know I've had some severe side effects to some medications, it took me months to get my doctor convinced and change them. Once I was on one birth control and it was working fine, with the pain. He gave me another kind, I had tried in the past, and had severe side effects he thought to change me back to it, and thinking I wouldn't notice. Within a week I knew right away, I stopped taking it. Now, he just keeps switching it, instead of trying to find the issue causing the problems.

I believe next time you write about anything here, your fingers won't be dancing, you would be dancing with joy. Love and pray for you dear.
