Take care of your animals.......

Some people think cats and dogs can take care of themselves. Im sur ein a way they can. But with no food, and shelter. They need help sometimes, just like we do. I hate seeing all these dogs and cats everyday here. Outside in cold and rain, looking for food and water. I wonder what they think each day, when they get up?

I agree with you that our pets need us to care for them. I take good care of my kitty cat. Although sometimes he does not realize that he is a pretty lucky kitty, especially when it comes to making him take medicine when he is sick. I will tell you he is like a little kid when it comes to taking medicine. He will hide from me if he knows he has to take medicine. I have learned better give him medication in the bathroom with the door closed unless I want to chase him around the apartment. Tigger always has food and water. The only time that it got a little bit dire straights was when I ended up in the hospital sick for 3 days. I was worried about him. I knew he had enough food for a couple days. I returned home to find the crunchy bowl nearly empty. The kitty plate for canned food was licked clean, and sitting right in front of the pantry where his food was kept. I feed him right away. I tried getting someone to check on him, but none of friends would have a chance to go till even later than when I got home from the hospital. The sad part is that especially in rough economic times people will just set pets free with no thought for the pet's welfare. It is pretty sad. I could not do that to my kitty cat. We have a cat around the complex that I think got left behind when the owners moved or something. It was by Wednesday, and Tigger invited the cat into the apartment. I could tell that it was hungry so I got the food bowl. The cat ate some food before leaving. I tried to say hello to the cat. I mean I feel bad for it, but it pretty scared of people. It seems to get along with my cat. It surprises me both of them can be on the patio a few times now and both cats seem to get along well. Tigger kept looking for his friend after it left. I am sure it will come back and visit. It has showed up here a few different times. Maybe, it figures that if there is a cat already there that it is a safe place to visit. Still, the cat seemed to want to be pretty independent. It was like once it had some food the cat was back on his or her way. Not sure but part of me wonders if it is a girl cat seeing as it does not seem to be territorial or want to pick a fight with my cat, which at first I was concerned about. Male cats tend to be pretty territorial. It is a huge cat like twice the size of my Tigger. The cat is friendly with Tigger but if I try to get near it will run off. Then again, cats can tend to be pretty cautious especially if they have had a bad experience with people in the past.

Yes, animals need love and care. All animals deserve unconditional love. I agree that an abandoned pet must would why the family that he loved left him or her behind. When I still lived at home, we got this dog that had been already returned twice so we were his third family. That scar of rejection always showed. It took him awhile to settle down into the new home with the feeling that this was his home for good. Even after that you could still tell that even if he got scolded for doing something wrong like destroying a new pair of shoes that he would worry that he would get returned. I definitely agree that animals have feelings. They know when they are loved and accepted. What type of pets do you have? Happy New Year to all!

I feel so guilty reading this. I have a dog that I haven't took care of so perfectly. I mean I feed her, I give her baths, I brush her hair, but not as often as It should be. She's a shih tzu so she needs more care. I feel guilty because her fur gets tangled all the time and sometimes she doesn't like the food I am giving her. I wish I have more time to take care of her.

I want my dog to sleep inside our house too and in our room. but my brother doesn't want my dog to be inside the house. So I let her sleep outside in her dog house instead. So sad to see her all alone out there but I can't do anything about it because I have other housemates like my brother who doesn't like animals at all.

I wonder too, and I wonder for these people who toss their animals outside. I would never associate with people who take an animal, then toss it outside, or even give it away just shows how selfish, and irresponsible they are. They do survive outside, but their life span is cut right down. Most indoor cats live to 15 - 19 years old, whereas outside cats live 3 -7 years old if your lucky.

Exactly you keep her in your sight. Here a lot will let them out in the winter, and leave them all day in -50C weather. You can charged with animal neglect and abuse here for anything such as that. Even if you throw your cat outside when you dont want it, if they catch you, you can be charged.

sad.. here I saw 4 or 5 dogs out in the streets the other day. Rain, wind and cold. They looked so sad. I wish I could have done something. My son used to leave our back gate open. Sometimes hed find 2 or 3 dogs sleeping under the porch. It didnt bother me. They were smart enough to find shelter here.

I hate the mistreatment of animals and the callous way in which too many people treat a pet as a toy. A cat or dog requires a lot of attention and should not be left to simply fend for themselves. I always had a dog when I was younger and spent a lot of time ensuring that they had sufficient exercise and a decent life. I would love to have a dog at present, but I live alone and go to work every day, so it would not be practical. It may be fine after a period of time, but initially it would be unfair to leave it alone for 9 or 10 hours every day.

It would be very sad to see cats and dogs out in the open wondering around looking for food and water. Are those animals someone's pets or are they strays? If they belong to someone they should be fenced in for their safety and the safety of others. I see a cat wondering around here from time to time I don't know who it belongs to. It does not look like an outdoor cat so I am afraid it might be somebody's indoor cat that got out and can't find it's way home. It is a shy cat and will not let anyone near it though.

Animals can't take care of themselves but they are forced to do it because of heartless people who don't care for them. They scavenge in garbage cans, everywhere, just to find something to fill their stomachs. That is so sad. Whenever I see an animal like this and I have food for my dogs at home, I would usually just give the food to this helpless and homeless dog.

Cats and dogs have feelings and emotions. They are similar like humans. The only difference is that humans is high intelligence than cats and dogs. We can help ourselves and knows what to do to protect ourselves from sickness while cats and dogs are helpless little creature that needs someone to protect them and so, we really need to take care of animals because God created also animals. They have many benefits for human.

It is sad to see animals roaming the streets looking for food and shelter. Unfortunately it is happening everywhere. I have some neighbors that put their dog out in the morning before they leave for work and it gets no attention until they get home. Where does this dog get its water? The bowl that is set out isn't that big.

I have to agree with you. My ex husband and I along with our four children lived on a 28 acre mini farm and I can't tell you the amount of people that would drop off their pregnant cats at our home. I believe they assumed since we had a pole barn we would be wanting their pregnant cats living with us. The majority of those cats would make their homes and birth their kittens in the crawl space under the house. My kids would get so attached to those kittens too. Once we found the kittens we would give them what food we had.

when I was child, I had a cat that I really love, unfortunetely sometime I did something bad to the cat. Now I don't have any pet in my house. I planed to have a fist or cat in the future. I agree with you if sometimes dogs and cats really need help from us, sometimes I fund a cat in from of my house and he mioooooww sound like he begging for some food from us.

You are absolutly correct! There are so many people out here that get animals and then after 1 week with them just kind of kick them to the curb which is not how any animal should be treated. There are so many dogs and cats in my neighborhood that just walk around looking all sick i feel bad for them

My oldest son is engaged to a girl who lives in Mexico and he says every time he visits her he wants to bring back some of the pitiful dogs he sees. He did bring one back and gave it to my other son and the dog is very happy now, well fed and loved. Oldest son always makes sure to not throw leftovers in the trash when they eat away from her home but puts the scraps where stray dogs can find them. He saw one dog at Christmas that was unusual in that it was neutered. I wish everyone could afford to neuter their pets then supposedly you would not have such a problem. But we neuter and spay dogs and cats here and we still have a terrible problem with too many unwanted animals.

This is why there are so many stray cats and dogs. People are irresponsible. So many persons are beating the stray dogs and blame them for existing, but they don't realize that not the dog is to blame for being on the street. The humans are the only ones to be blamed. The laws are not always applied and the result is that more pets are going stray each day. I work as a vet so I see abandoned animals and stupid people who hurt them each day. We claim that humanity keeps evolving, but I wonder when we will be wise enough to stop this problem for good.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, animals need to be taken care of properly so that they never feel left out. Animals cannot be left as it is and they also need love and affection like normal individuals and hence it is our sole duty to take care of them and see to it that they do not suffer due to our negligence. What say?

It is so odd how people just think that they can set a pet free when they can no long care for it. Personally, I am struggling financially, but I have search and found resources to provide pet assistance so I can continue to care for my kitty cat. Even if you cannot afford to keep a pet, I do not understand why people do not find a good home for the pet or find a no kill shelter to take the pet where people at the shelter can help the pet find a new home that will be able to care for it.
