Himachal Pradesh Government has already banned the cigarette/smoking in the public places and also the use polythene bags is banned. Now it is on today's news paper that all the plastic packing products specifically the junk food products are banned, the rule will come under effect on 1st April 2013. Anyone who violates this law will be heavily fined. In the previous three four years around42,600 persons(According to daily newspaper) were fined, for smoking at public places in Himachal Pradesh. It has given fruitful results, but need is to apply the rules strictly. I think the other states and governments should take the similar steps to make them pollution free and more green. what do you say?

My city also banned plastic bags. It was a hassle at first with many people forgetting to bring along a shopping bag when they go out but gradually people got used to it. It is nice to know we are doing something to protect the environment. Even if a city does not impose the ban, citizens should be encouraged to use re-usable bags.

I think that they do need to be strict with this and be constant everywhere. I know that some areas are more lax that others and so those need to be tightened up. Pollution free and more green would be great for every corner of the world. We need to all work together to make it happen.

I use to smoke but now I have left it since last 6 months, and now I am searching some types of plants which will benefit the environment and me also, so that I can plant them at my home land.

Hi sanjay, plastic has been completely banned in my town Mangalore as well since October. No shops are allowed to use plastic bags instead they will give a reusable jute bag.In fact, people are not allowed to carry plastic bags in public -we have to pay a fine if caught carrying plastic bags...

Sanjay, I fully support the initiative. In this mad rush for industrialization, we are damaging mother nature beyond repairs. It is about time that we start proactive measures, otherwise there will soon be a time when we will struggle for water, air, everything!

It is a good and timely step taken by Himachal Pradesh Government. Plastic packets are a great threat to the already polluted environment. So, if the officials there can implement it properly, it will be a great lesson to the other states which are not very serious about the nuisance created by plastic.
