is 40 the new 20, 50 the new 30 and 60 the new 40?

A lot of people believe that modern technology has enabled people to live longer and stay youthful and healthy for a long time. Do you agree with this? Or do people generally look their age? I would like to think that 40 is the new 20, etc. The saying "Life begins at 40" should therefore be changed to "Life begins at 60." Do you think this is possible for people to enjoy life even after 40? Share your thoughts.

I think that the way people behave and dress at a certain age have changed a lot maybe this last century. It is not only that we live longer, but we do different things. There is no such a thing as an "old maid" anymore, because women can do lots of things besides getting married. As for enjoying life, people have always enjoyed life if they are the kind of people who do it, no matter what moment is the history of mankind.

I agree 100 percent with what you have said. I dress and act differently than my mother did. My mom wore mostly polyester knits and leisure suits.. if you remember what they were... and she wore a lot of mismatched outfits that made her look boxy instead of complimenting her shape. Nowadays, there is just more taught on how to dress... and makeup is another thing.. less is more. I just use a touch of blush and a little eyebrow pencil on my face and occasionally will line my eyes for a more dramatic effect. Today, we have Youtube to show us how to apply makeup, and there is so much more available now to women and men. Nowadays, most people exercise at least 30 minutes a day and they care what they look like. They care what they put into their mouths because they don't want to wear the extra fat that comes from eating poorly. Heart and cholesterol levels are usually much better in people who care what they eat and get up and move around. It's the people who don't bother that usually end up dying from poor health... not always... but mostly I think that's true... like diabetes type 2 is a preventable disease just by eating right and keeping your weight in normal range. I'm lucky, I'm over weight still, but have lost way over 100 pounds.. I am not diabetic and never was.

Hi there, Marguicha and Pointless! I agree with both of you. People now have options and choices--it's not that they didn't have them in the past, but it's just that people now are more aware of them. There had been standards in the past that had been broken by men and women who have proven to everyone that a 60-year-old can be as fit as a 16-year-old.

Seriously I am not blowing my own trumpet here, but many people don't believe I am as old as I am when they see me, the look of pure amazement when I tell them how old I am. I actually treat it as a game now because if ever anyone asks me how old I am, I never tell them, I always say, guess! People think I am in my early thirties! Ha ha ha! I am 41, 42 this year. I think you get more settled in life when you reach 40. I tend to live more for today and have a much slower pace of life than I did when I was in my 20s and 30s.

Hi sweet Wolf! It's good to see you. I love your avatar.. I really do. I am like you... no one ever guesses my age right. I look like I'm possibly in my mid to late 40s and I'm 62... will be 63 in June. I'm looking better now than I did last summer because more weight is coming off and I'm eating more fruits and veggies and taking vitamins.. Multi, E, and B7 and a B12 shot every month.

i think that is true just because people are living much longer than they used to. this is one factor that can make us feel younger than our actual age. Also, i think that with all the beauty creams, our skin looks younger as well. i am in my early 50s and i am told i don't look my age (due to using cream every day since i was a teen) and i know that i don't act my age either which makes most people think i am younger than i actually am.

I don't know what age I look but I do know how I feel I will be 60 next birthday and if this statement is true then I am going to have a ball because the best part of my life so far was from 40 to 50 - and there will be no risks this time round either!

I think that medicine and increasing education on health and wellness have definitely helped people to live longer. I've noticed that a lot of older people seem to be looking a lot younger than they are as well. I don't think that this is solely because of implants and botox injections. I think we will continue to be able to live longer and fuller lives as we continue to learn more about nutrition and taking care of ourselves.

I can definitely say that 40's is the new 30's or 20's because my friends and I are nearly 40 but we do activities that of people younger by ten or fifteen years. Plus, we don't really look our age. But I can't say the same for the 20's generation here in my country. Why? Because so many of that age group work in the call center industry and are living unhealthy lifestyles. You can see that almost 80% of them smoke, you can find them in bars drinking like there's no tomorrow. Not to mention that the work they have are mostly graveyard shifts, so they get little sleep. So I think it's the other way around now. Those who are in their 40's are healthier than those in their 20's. This makes me recall a recent visit to a hospital where I thought a young lady was just their for her grandmother. Turns out that the young lady (around her 20's) was the patient and that she was already hypertensive. When we chatted, my doctor admitted a rise in the 15-25 age group of having cardiovascular diseases, diseases that should have come out when you are old and you body has problems due to old age. So to sum, yes the older generation seems to be much healthier than those in their 20's.

It is amazing how smart young kids are now days. They are growing at an astonishing rate now days. People are able to live to ripe old ages now days. And it isn't so surprising to hear of people living to the triple digits now days. I guess it depends on who you are talking to about the phrase "Life begins at --?"

Hi Is it? I am thinking the opposite because in the olden days as we see in many holy books they mentioned that the people those days lived longer some 150 years and more. Now in this modern age we live hardly 80 and and we find very less people who cross 100. let me think ya i am very confused now people in those days even are young at 150 years or so but now we don't find any ...

We don't know how the people in the bible gauged years, so 150 years back then might not have been 365 day years. If you think about it, there is no physical evidence of humans living that long. Any archaeological digs that have been done always shows people of ancient times dying at around age 30 or 40. We are living much longer today than a 1000 years ago. There are a lot of religious beliefs, like the earth isn't old; some believe it's only 6,000 years old... but there is just no real evidence to support claims like that... so religion aside, we are living in a much healthier age than our parents did in the 1950s. All we have are stories from the bible and other ancient writings. They have nothing to do with what is in the here and now.. and in the times of our parents... not necessarily Abraham and Methuselah.

Hi Cutie, for some people life begin at 40 is true ! more mature and stable. hard working when you were young, and enjoy your time after 40's. in modern technology people more stressed and worry that makes more diseases and no body can live longer anymore now. at the most, if you're lucky you can reach 100 but that makes you and people around you suffer. just enjoy my life now as long as i can. and i am enjoy my time and being grateful.

People dont look their age. If you line of various people of different races, belonging to the age 20, say for example, you will clearly see that you cannot assume thier ages. Asian generally tend to look way younger than the Americans. Apart from that, LIFESTYLE CAUSES PRE_MATURE AGING too. Take a look at the picture of Linday Lohan, tell me seriously how old she looks?

Hi Cutie, You must be very young to even ask that. I'm 62 years young, and my skin doesn't have one wrinkle on it. My skin is soft and supple, and with just a touch of blush and eyebrow pencil I look to be about 45 years old or younger. I have been asked several times if my daughter was my sister. We look a lot alike. I feel better now than I did 30 years ago. I am taking care of myself, losing weight, and taking lots of good vitamins, B12, B7, and a multi-vit and a Vitamin E. I'm no longer depressed like I was in my 30s and 40s. I feel like my life is just beginning now, strange as it may seem.

Yes, I could not agree more, this is one of the best posts I've responded to. There is no more ageism if people take care of their bodies, spirituality, and emotional well being. I am very very happy. I really think that 60 is going to be the new 20 soon. I hope so, so when I get there I'll have someone to skateboard with. I've a relative who is 65 and rides her bike to the store and looks 40, or even 35. No plastic surgery, just eats well and exercises. So Yes, we are on our way to having really full and exciting lives way into our 100's. Go to youtube and start to search for bodybuilders in their 70's, and you will not believe it. Jim Morris, I believe is in his 70's and looks better than most 20 year olds. There are a few women body builders on youtube that go up against the young guys in the gyms and can do more than they can. You should see the guys and their expressions, when they have been beat out by a 70 year old woman. Good post, on I agree with.

Life begins at 40, these sayings is came from male specimen since at these age they are trying to prove their manly stage as advised by my guidance counselor friend before, People now a days has a shorter life than the people the older years since there are more preservatives being served and exposed to radiation I guess were fortunate enough if we reach longer years. I partially agree that at age 20 thinking at 40 stage, tough competition, a lot of ways to access any form of information, people are more vocal and open minded than the usual and advance technology are coming in that the younger generation are susceptible to change than the older people. So, eventually the mentality of younger generation is more somewhat knowledgeable from those who hinder themselves to changes
