Yet another interview with David McCallum

I'm sure you have noticed that my main interest in NCIS is David McCallum. After all, he was my first "crush" on TV as Illya Kuryakin. This is a lovely interview with him... http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/373910/David-McCallum-I-wasn-t-sure-I-wanted-to-do-it-anymore-/ I know if I were his age, I probably wouldn't be willing to take on a role like his... heck, I'm 20 years younger and wouldn't really want to either. Who do you like on NCIS?

I like them all. But as a guy, of course I'm partial to the ladies, Ziva(Cote de Pablo) and Abby(Pauley Perrette). Ziva is an action, fighter type character which appeals to me since I like strong women. Abby is quirky and brilliant and as a scientist she appeals to me because of her job. I like Tony's character but sometimes I wonder if Michael Weatherly isn't just being himself to some extent in the role. I think he may have settled down some now but when younger he was a bit of a ladies man to the point of divorcing(and perhaps cheating) on his first wife, Amelia Heinle, just months after their son was born. Of course my judgement on that could be a little affected by the fact that I am a huge Amelia Heinle fan. But I digress, I do like David McCallum as Ducky and Mark Harmon as Gibbs. Also, Sean Murray is good as McGee.

I just wish I were as pretty as Ziva or as smart as Abby - I'm differently weird from Abby, but I love that part of her too! I agree that Robert Wagner was ideal as Tony's father, and I also agree that Tony seems to have settled down, I think that undercover thing he did was a game changer for him. I think McGee is a great character, not the cutest person, but I think he's pretty great, I'm more weird like McGee without the computer skills!

I love NCIS. Duckie / David I do adore, but I think that Gibbs really draws me in. Second to that it'd be Mcgee. Their real names just escape me right now. Though Duckie does have that allure / charm about him and his character. I don't know that I'd seen anything with him in it prior to NCIS though.

Illya was a Russian but he was working for the good guys. I think a lot of his sexiness had to do with his being British at the time of the Beatles and his assumed Russian accent. Although McCallum did a lot of other work besides Man From Uncle, I either didn't see many or the roles or I only remember two of them. Prior to Uncle he was in an episode of the Outer Limits where a scientist uses him as a guinea pig for an experiment that mutates him into human from 20,000 years in the future. During the transformation his head keeps getting bigger. The other role was in the revival of the Outer Limits where he played an inventor who created a machine that was able to bring people back to life.

NCIS is an interest that we share. Despite the number of similar series on television there seems to be something special about NCIS that sets it apart from the rest. It is quite likely that they have managed to create a very interesting team, which has remained a factor even though a few of the characters have changed. I was a fan of The Man from UNCLE and remember David McCallum as Illya Kuryakin. The character he plays in NCIS is totally different altogether, yet he does an excellent job of it which is the sign of a talented actor. When I first saw NCIS I wondered what had happened over the decades in between because I have no knowledge of anything he has dome, but he must have been around somewhere.

The Invisible man? No wonder I did not see him. Seriously though, I was not aware that he had played the part and have not even heard of VR-5 before. I had a look online for the programme and it was apparently on Fox, which explains why I had not encountered it. I knew that he must have been involved in some series, but had no idea when or where.

He was the invisible man in the TV remake series, also in VR-5 which didn't last long but I really liked.

I faithfully watched The Man From U.N.C.L.E. for as long as it was on TV. And, yes, Illya Kuryaki was my favorite on that show, too. I like David McCallum on NCIS. I also like Abby and Gibbs. But then I liked Mark Harmon on that hospital TV show that he was in, too. And darned if I can't think of the name of it. Was it Chicago Hope?? I'm getting forgetful.

I have to say that Mark Harmon is my least favorite on the cast, but I can't say he isn't well cast for the role. I also can't say that I didn't start feeling better about him when he got involved with that undercover assignment where he actually fell for the girl. I like Abby and McGee a lot and Ziva, wow is she pretty!

Abby is so cute. I like it when she gets to rambling and then Gibbs gives her that "look". I agree with you...Ziva is very pretty. I really like her strong character in the show.

What gets me about NCIS is how Gibbs developed a crew over the years. In a Flashback show, we see how he recruited Tony, who was also around when they created the characters in an episode of JAG. Then in the first show of NCIS, Gibbs recruits Kate (Who was a replacement for Vivian from the JAG episode). Magee started as a computer nerd who gets transferred into the team, and Ziva replaces Kate after she's killed. Sean Murray (Magee) would seem to be the one actor with the most job security since Donald Bellisario, the shows producer, is his step father.

I like all of NCIS characters for different resonds. I am in love with Gibbs, but love the nerdy way of McGee, the vulnerability of DiNozzo, the straght of Ziva, and Abby`s tenderness. Duck is a sort of father of all of them and it is as adorable as I would imagine Santa. I love the whole show.

I do like the dynamic of NCIS, but I tend to be on the computer instead of watching TV

Since I have my laptop, almost a year now, I spend more time watching TV and at the computer at the same time.

I'm a big fan of David McCallum. He has been so busy over the years doing some very memorable roles and is my favorite on NCIS. The entire cast is great and its good to see some females that are strong characters. Its great to see how well the show is doing rating wise.

Thanks for the link but the interview doesn't tell us much, does it? Napoleon Solo was the "ladies man" but, like you, I would much rather be stranded with Ilya... As for who's my favorite? Besides Ducky, of course, I like Tony. No, really. And the casting of Robert Wagner as his father is brilliant. They not only look and sound as if they could really be related, but his "It Takes a Thief" personna fits Senior's back story.

I'm still looking for Ellen's incredile McCallum site, but until then, people who'd like the lengthy film & TV list for him should check out Wikipedia! While they don't list what else he's done, such as record music, be in a video game, read books on tape, or his numerous plays, they still have tons to see! No really great photos, however. Ellen has thousands--from virtually all his venues! Go forth & explore! You'll thank me later. Maggiepie

I think that the show has a great ensemble cast. I've gotten into watching it over the past couple of years--in large part due to my boyfriend. I am definitely a Ducky fan. I actually thought that David McCallum was a few years younger than he is, though; of course, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was from before my time, and I never saw it in reruns.

Uncle did sort of spur a spoof of itself which ran a long time and may still be around in reruns. Get Smart. Another show that came out later that was more realistic, and perhaps a bit boring because of it, Secret Agent (aka Danger Man).

I had a crush on McCallum also. In fact he was the reason I started watching NCIS. I wanted to see what he looked like now, and got involved with the other characters. Now it is one of my favorite shows!

If it is the David of older movies, well, I like him having been in his first movies as villain to rise as a star in his later years. I don't recall the titles but remember him in WWII movies also.
