I now doubt about why we choose such a fast living pace. As we can have cars and other modern traffic equipment, we can move a long distance in a short time. But soon you will find out that we spend almost the same time going to work, as we now live far from the city. I do not save our time on traveling, do not save our money on moving, we just choose a way to waste energy.

I think now a days life is getting busy and busy and most of them living in cities are having food lives. I also wish it is good to save energy by walking shorter distances.

As people now is used to the way of using energy. It is quite hard to reduce energy requirement. The possible way is making full use of energy and finding out new energy source. Now I have focus my attention on bioenergy, which use the bio-material to produce energy. Leaves, vegetable wastes, nut shells can be energy resources and many researchers try to use bacteria to ferment them to be usable energy. I think making full use of things around as can help solve the energy problem.

I make every effort to conserve use of amenities everyday! And have for many years; I have put catchment in place (13,500 gallons or 50,750 Litres) to store rainwater and use...I continually catch and recyle rain! Lights off in rooms not occupied, appliances/electronics unplugged when not in use. Clothes dried on clothes lines. And my biggest saviour...an Electric Bike which I have had for 6 years, which saves me about $625.00 a year in Insurance, and over $2500.00 in fuel,so in 6 years, I have saved nearly $19,000.00 on transportation...The E-bike costs 28 cents for nearly 90 khm. Being on my property for nearly 33 years, I consistently plant trees for harvest, and I heat with only wood heat! In many country's...there are prime consumption times for electricity...and I avoid those times for cooking, vacuuming, or using high-consumption appliances...which is a huge savings. When I cook, I make enough for several meals, freeze and simply re-heat on my wood stove! I make every effort not to buy, over-packaged foods and buy foods in bulk...it is a simple way of life! AND the ultimate is that I have a huge GARDEN each year for food stock!

There is no way I or my family can save more energy... btw it's not energy you are talking about but "oil". The oil we need for everything. In our daily life we walk or take the bike, we just use our car in cases of need. We have only 3 lamps in our house, all safety and not more as 5 or 7 watt. Which means we mostly stumble in the dark or use a candle. We save on doing the laundry (so no waste of water, energy, soap) same with dish washing. We have no bath tub and we shower but not dail (so we are saving again). We don't buy cosmetics, deo's etc which is not only toxic for the body but also does cost a lot of energy to make it. This besides of the fact that in many products for the body(care) are little plastic balls which will come into the ground water and seas in the end. We take care of our clothes and property incl. stuff. So we don't need to buy new (which costs energy as well) and if we see if we can get it (used, second hand shop for example). If we don't need or can't use something anymore we ask others if they can. We use (plastic/paper) bags again for our trash. Cans, bottles, plastic we keep separate and it is removed by our city also separate (and it will be re-used, they make new products out of it). We never throw trash outside on the street. We also never have left overs if it comes to food we throw away. I can mention you way more things how we (not only are saving money) are decreasing daily. Even if we paint or make something we do it what we have. The plastic, the cans, the (news)papers etc.

I also think ironing cost lots of electricity. There are also irons available that can use coconut shells and other charcoal that can be used for ironing.

Hey, Mavic. I never iron anything either. As long as you hang and fold the clothes up immediately after they're dried they will not be wrinkled in the first place.

Cupkitties, Yes, I do that, when I collect my clothes from the clotheslines, I fold it neatly immediately and keep. Ajit, sometimes, the charcoal are more expensive than the electricity.
