I'd Like A New Toilet Seat..But There Again..

...I'd absolutely LOVE a new bathroom suite! The bathroom comes a close second to one of the bedrooms as being the most hated room in the house. The one GOOD thing about it is, due to us only have 2 bedrooms upstairs the bathroom is actually quite large, especially the bath..that I can lie in, no problem at all. However, the toilet seat leaves a lot to be desired. It's a pine job. It looked great against the blue(!) toilet many years ago but now it's looking well..a bit sad if I'm being honest. Clean but definitely sad. The thing is, what type of toilet seat do we go for? There are so many to choose from, bearing in mind we have the old-fashioned, bigger..er..pan. Haha! There are acrylic ones with colourful designs on them, then there are the usual pine or oak versions. Obviously, we cannot go for white as the toilet is blue. I do know one thing though. It DOES need replacing. How I wish we had the money to have a whole expanse of vanity unit and toilet combined across the massive wall! This is what I'd love (or something similar) but we cannot afford it.. http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/arctic-3397-20863

I would love to re-do my down stairs bathroom as well. We just have a plain white toilet and a plain white seat, but the toilet is not the problem. It is the wallpaper. The people who lived here before us put it up and while I liked it when we first moved in here 16 years ago it is kind of dated now. It is also peeling off in several places and looks awful. I know we should peel it off and paint, but I don't want just a boring white bathroom and I have no decorating sense what so ever so I am at a loss as to what to do with it.

Janey has good decorating sense, so perhaps you should send her a picture and ask for advice. A pale peach or pink tone is flattering to the skin, I would never paint anything plain old white. Whatever color you would choose you could get a wallpaper border. I think papered bathrooms do not hold up as well.

Thanks GardenGerty! Hi ladym33. Wallpapers for bathrooms do exist but - personally, I would go for tiles. We have tiles (although I've gone off them now as they're old-fashioned) but if you got large, plain ones (not necessarily white) they would fill the walls quicker and would probably be cheaper too. I'm a big fan of those tiles that look like bricks. The gloss white ones are lovely but I'm sure you can get them in whatever colour you like. Researching online is the way to go.

I am bit by bit acquiring money and parts to repair and update my bathroom that is downstairs. It is awful, and I need about $500 more. And a willing husband. I hope you can get your stuff done that you want.

How big is your bathroom, if you don't mind me asking? Because our high walls extend to the bathroom we can get away with units on one side and a large bath on the other, with the same electric shower we have now. Mum told me we could have a freestanding shower but I had one in a flat I lived in many years ago and I was fed up of cleaning it every 5 minutes, so I'm not a huge fan of them. My cousin had her bathroom updated recently and was clever in what she did. She didn't like the full suites so she would buy each item individually. So, she would save up for her whirlpool bath, for example which is something that doesn't ordinarily get included in full bathroom suites. The bathroom she has now is more suited to her tastes rather than her conforming to what the high street wants her to buy. In fact, the more I think about it, the more ideas I have. This is what I'm like. Hold on to something and not let go until it's been bought!

If it's any consolation with our bathroom everything needs badly replacing and not just the toilet seat, the sink, the bath panel is off, tiles are off, the floor is unstable and the carpet is in a state, father is no DIY man and he would rather spend the money on booze than get anything done, the last time the toilet seat had to be replaced, poor mum had to go out and buy it, bring it home and fit it!

Yes, that reminds me of my discussion regarding the same thing. Had to fit the new seat darned quickly before Dad came back from the Club. Even now he's no idea it's a new seat as it's practically identical to the one it replaced!

I'd just like a bathroom and a loo inside the house to be honest! I don't care what the seat looks like, so long as my bum isn't going to freeze to it.

I think this one http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/walnut-toilet-seats-3657-0000 as the darker colour wood will probably make a change from pine, and might go ok with the blue, depending on what the blue is like, obviously, if its too turquoise you will have to stick with the pine.

The lighter one would look better...thanks. Think of our suite as the colour of the Chelsea kit and you get the idea!

I personally would love the darker brown! The other link though that Janey1966 shared has a very nice feel to it too.

I prefer the darker brown, but I think thats just personal perference. Unless Janey wants to show us a picture of her toilet so we can get the right shade of blue? maybe not.

It never amazes me what discussions crop up here.... Here we at are the hub of global communication and interaction, we can educate ourselves and learn about other cultures. Unmask the lies told by our political masters about other faiths and nations. Friendships formed regardless of colour, gender and creed. The internet allows us so much..... How do we use this gift? We talk about 'Kin BOG SEATS!!!! B&Q have a decent line of toilet seats

But I spent ages today trying to unmask the lies of our political masters, its quite nice to do something different.

There's no reason why you can't have a white seat on a blue toilet, other than your own prejudice.

I think that is one of those things that you just have to address one piece at a time. Eventually, you will have the bathroom that you want though. There are a lot of things that I would like to change in here. However, this is a rental; so, there is a limit to what I can do with this place. It does make me more determined that my boyfriend and I buy our own place sooner rather than later, though.

Yes, I have lived in rented accommodation in the past. Depending on how lenient the landlord(s) were determined what we were allowed to do. One landlord didn't allow us to do anything but the last one did. I lived with a nomark at that time but he WAS very good at painting. I remember one time coming home from work (to the last flat we lived in) and he'd painted the walls of the living-room in apple white (it was bright in there to start with and it looked really good) and he'd painted the doors gloss white as well. I bought a large photographic print of a Mountain Lion (that is at Mum's now) and placed it above the fireplace. The whole look was awesome. Unfortunately, as far as decent windows were concerned..they were all double glazed when we'd both left (at different times, I left him)..isn't that always the way? Improvements once the tenants have gone?
