mylot atmosphere changing?

when I came here to mylot I was bitterly upset, newly forced to retire then later made homeless and I found my lot. I found friends here, and a pleasant welcoming atmosphere even as the outside world economy was rapidly getting really bad. Here I could come and be refreshed relaxed and viewed it some days as therapy. Now so many come in and want to change everything and to make it a clone of Facebook . Is the atmosphere of fun and trust and welcoming going to change now? or I am I just worrying for nothing ? your take fellow my lotters.

Well, things change, sites change, people leave, so who knows? I do think that if Admin doesn't get the problem with the notifiers fixed, it will have a really negative affect on the site.

I sure hope your worrying for nothing! I love MyLot the way it is just like most people do here. I hope they do not change anything. If people don't like it here they are welcome to leave and go back to where they came from-facebook! I love it here and I really hope it stays the way it is. No need to change anything, sure it needs a little work on some things but I don't want it to be anything like FB!! I hope all is well with you Hatley!

I don't see how they could make it anything like Facebook. But considering I don't spend much time at all on Facebook I couldn't really say. I must not be running in the same circles as everyone else. Because I haven't been seeing the fighting and arguing some other people are writing about.

AmbiePam you did not miss a thing believe me as it was just rudeness and meanness. This woman tore into a younger member calling him names and making fun of him and the poor guy did not even know her mean idioms as he was not from the US but he was very civil to her and told her he had not expected such rudeness from her and she mocked him. I wished I had stuck out of it but I felt so sorry for the young man and how she really flamed him. She deserved to be banned for sure.what got me was one user whom I admire was admonishing Diana for telling her if she disliked us and mylot so much she was free to leave. this user told Diana that she should let that mean user express herself. Express herself by flaming other users? thats ridiculous.I hate that kind of thing and hop; we do not see more of it.

It is the users themselves who fill up the pages and make mylot what it was, is and will be in the future! It is up to those Lotters who care for it and want to remain the myLot as we know it to explain to those new users wanting it to be different that, apart from the glitches hopefully, everything will stay as it is now. Maybe it is even more important than before that more users lend a hand in guiding new users and reporting violations so that the tone of what fills up the pages remains the same too? There have only ever been a few of us who help out and that number should have increased by many more of the years, especially as there are more and more people joining now that myLot is one of the few remaining paying sites left.

More users should also be helping out when new users are asking questions too. It takes two minutes to respond with a link to the FAQs, even if the topic is later deleted. Surely we can all give up a couple of posts each day?

That's true, we should be keeping an eye out always for rule breaking because it changes the tone of myLot by far. We can only suggest they also do the same and hope they will because we want myLot to remain a great place, thee great place we know and love.

Mylot isn't like facebook, and i don't believe it ever will be. If people come in here thinking that it is like faceboo,, they will be disappointed. However, if they are looking for discussing different topics, then this is where they should be. I am on here more than I am on facebook, which is a good thing. I only go into facebook, to keep up with my family and friends I have there. I would never be alble to discuss things in there like hter though, never. I am so glad that mylot isn't like any other, as it is a refreshing site where we can all come in here and have fun and learn as well. I certainly don't have fun in facebook. I never have, and I never will. Take care hatley, and have a very good day.

Those who are looking for that need to go to FaceBook as mylot admins knows what the heck they are doing and have done well for a lolng time too.,I am taking care now and relaxing as I type . I had a great da y today too. I am like you as I have a Facebook account so I can keep in touch with relatives but I love mylot so much better. My son really likes FaceBook b ut he is much smarter in regards to facebook than I am lol..I like the way we all can interact with each other here.

I've only completed my first year here and I don't really feel any drastic change. I have always wondered, though, how it was in the beginning. I know the number of myLot population has grown rapidly and it is quite possible that those who were active back then created a different atmosphere than now...

Hi sishy I was here six years ago and we made a little more than we do now but there were a few less people but it was much as it is now.A lot of us are still here so we stay about the same . I just get nervous at all ht newbies who want to change everything when they just came and do not even read the guidelines or know how mylot works. Once they do they may change their minds. I do not see my lot every changing into a second FaceBook though.

No I really don't think you need to worry about the users having any say in what myLot will or won't be. I don't see it changing. We members make the atmosphere what it is here so just keep on doing what you do. its because facebook is so huge in the world that they all will compare it to that. If they knew what myLot really is about how we do, they may change their mind about that too.

Personally my friend, lets hope it never becomes like Facebook. I enjoy having a place to come where we can come and talk about life's problems and be able to relate without everyone knowing who we really are. I also like the fact that we cannot personally message someone unless they are on our friends list. This site was made before the popularity of Facebook, and truly needs to continue to be the site it is today. People here that are wanting it to be like Facebook can move on to sites like that that are.

hi tina I think mylot admins were pretty smart and they found the things thats worked and tht did not work.I like it to that we cannot personally message someone unless they are on our friends list.It makes it much better.Too when I found two people here over the years that just did not like me at all and made no bones about it.One was on my friends list and just as I went to delete her she deleted me lol .I think in all sites one will meet one or two people who are some reason known only to themselves they will take a dislike to one person. So if they are not on ones friends list they cannot at least harass you with ugly p messages.yes let not fix mylot lets leave it the way it is.

That is so good to hear and always refreshing. Some do come here at first just for the money and some often leave quickly afterward. It is so nice to hear when someone has come here for that but instead their motivations have changed and they made some friends along the way!

hi suspenceful yes I do agree as we need interesting discussions to respond too and not onps full of bitterness and meanness but don't you think in a way all our discussions if looked back on so sort of sound like a journal of our lives. I know I first met you and your husband was very ill and you were having many problems then on through your life sort of like a journal but I kind of enjoyed it as I felt by being here and able to vent a bit as you went through so much it helped you some. Do not worry though as we have had these kinds of things here before then it turned back to more normal times. I just do not want to be in an atmosphere where everyone is tearing at each other. I do not remember you ever being nasty or mean about anyone here and most of us do not do that. We do not always see eye to eye but we have always had respect for each other. thats one thing I would like to see continue.

oh suspenseful that is a vivid imaginationl I had something a bit similar in that we were at that time living in a gated apartment complex. police armed with trained dogs were prowling allover o u complex a helicopter was also hovering over above us and when my son came home from work they would not let him in until he was indentified by the manager and the police dogs corralled. seems they were looking for some bank robber wanted by the FBI and thought he had snuck into our complex. well he was not there bu it was after midnight before they withdrew and it was sort of scary as they came and to d us to lock our doors and windows.I sometimes wish i was more on my own here but still its nice to feel s afe here.]

hi GreenMoo I almost hoped you would be there as you might have enlightened that person about flaming and being rude. I think perhaps soon it will be back to our old more placid and friendly'mylot. I was not really referring to the changes in topics so much as to the sudden open rudeness and how qite a few lauded her for being so brutally frank. that really surprised and amazed me as it was not a matter of her having her expressiveness being stopped but of her mistreating and flaming people here on my lot. I am all for any one being able to express themselves but with courtesy and respect to others.I think mylot will pretty much stay the pleasant welcoming place we all know.

If I wanted Facebook I'd go to Facebook. Interesting - I just read an article on comcast news yesterday about many people taking a "pause" from Facebook. It seems that members who have been there a while go through a slump where they stop posting for a while, and do other internet things. When they go back, it's never quite with the same oomph. I can believe it because it happened to me. I was so excited when first on Facebook, posting things here and there, daily updates - but once I discovered this site, and another social media site mainly aimed at writers, I barely glanced at my FB page. I only go there now to vote for American Idol or the Voice..lol...or to check on one or two old friends.

I can also believe this trend. I for one never had that "oomph" for facebook at all. I was a myspace kid and I never did like facebook. I still don't and I only will check in there for family and friends. I mean FB is so boring to me! I don't play games there, I hate the kidn of games that are available, having to wait to play the stupid things in the first place! The layout there is sooo boooring, just looking at it makes me want to leave. And typically, I do, as fast as possible!!!

I have met one guy my lotter who always comes up with a joke so out of left field it take me a second then I am laughing like crazy. I think you are worrying for nothing. We do have an ebb and flow in how we react to each other and in the atmosphere, but MyLot, although it is social, has never claimed to be a social network. I love it so much better than facebook and twitter, and it still leaves me feeling more connected than any other place I go. I will agree, though, that there seem to be fewer helping posts than in the past. I feel we are still hung up in the elections or something.

I say, If you want myLot to be more like FB, then just go to FB and leave my myLot alone! In western Canada, Woodward's Department Stores was the place to go to get what you wanted: if they didn't have it, nobody did. Then they got a new manager who thought it should be more like Eaton's... offering high-end fashions, getting rid of various departments... Well, that's not why people shopped at Woodward's and it eventually went bankrupt. A sad loss. And to make matters worse, a few years later, Eaton's went belly-up, too. I wish people would just leave things well enough alone. As the saying goes, Why fix it if it ain't broken?

As Golden spoons went belly up as it was not fancy but the sugar free yogurt was fantastic and with sugar free chocolate sauce it was a dream. I Know admins was right of course as thats a mean word too.Whats really odd this user that caused all that had been here for six years and her other discussions were not like that so I think maybe she was emotionally ill some way bu there was no excuse for her behavior.I told her we were supposed to treat one other with respect and she just made fun of me. oh well hope its all okay now again.

As it does take a little time to learn your way around but if you start off reading the guidelines and the F AQ's you have a good start and it really did help me I know. Also older users helped me too with many great suggestions such as wait a week before selecting best responses which does make good sense.

I can see indeed some huge changes but not in a positive way. The biggest change I have noticed is in the earnings update and computations. I think the computation or rates have decreased, don't you think so? And also updating of earning has become infrequent. I thought i did well in the last two days but when the earning update came, I was sad to see that the earnings were quite low and so I thought there must be some sort of decrease in the rate per participation.

There is no such thing as 'a rate per participation' here on myLot. We earn for our overall quality participation in each 24 hour period but if our activity is not worthy of earning much, or if our posts are deleted, then the earnings will be disappointing indeed.

hi john my earnings dived as I participated in some that sadly got deleted and i should have known better but got involved and interested and forgot I could lose earnings. the sad part is I need those earnings and when I do not make a dollar a day it means a lot more has to come out of my measly leftovers after the Gold Crest admins takes out their huge chunk for rent ant board per month.

As I understand it, when you lose your earnings in this way, at least you only lose those which you would never have made if you had not participated in that rule-breaking discussion. Or am I wrong? Do you actually get penalties over and above this?
