In life we have choices but many a time we choose something that precipitates into an unpleasant situation. Such a situation could have been averted had a thought gone into the likely repercussions of making such a choice. How do you go about making choices in life. Are they spur of the moment or do you think before you leap. Do share your experiences.

I am not sure if it has something to do with my zodiac sign, which is Libra. So sometimes, I am really torn between two choices and I just couldn't make up my mind coz I know both the pros and cons of each. And sometimes, just to get rid of the trouble of choosing, I would just not do anything at all.
But if I really need to make a choice, I talk to myself and ask who will benefit from my decision and if there would be more people that can be happy with it or not.

I had attended a course on decision making while I was working and there we had this guy who came from Switzerland who surprised us by showing that decision making is not a child's play. (I was working for a Swiss firm) He introduced us to an approach called PRODEM - Problem analysis and decision making. The examples that we had to work on were hilarious such as should we go for the evening show or the matinee show. The process ran into pages!
But with experience these processes come naturally to us and right decisions are taken in minutes. When I wanted to resign from my job I applied that approach which pointed towards the plus points if I resigned.

I swing back and forth. Sometimes I trust my gut, other times I over think things. I believe there is always "what if" and if we make a bad choice we should make note of lessons learned.

Thanks for reviving my old discussion. When I was at work we had undergone a course on management that included a subject called PRODEM - problem analysis and decision making. The amount of work that is involved even to decided if one should take tea or coffee was voluminous. I did this to give up my job and I realised my choice was right. In other words deep thinking is called for.

I am likening.."look before you leap" to impetuosity (and carefreeness) and I think BOTH are wasted on the youth!
I think, with age, I have become boring and calculating, and think things thru, before making decisions, or a mis-step!
I had a lot of good, clean fun in my youth..harmless fun, that offered my laughs upon recollection...and today, wonder why I was so impetuous?
