14-16 hours days are to much............

One does what they have to survive. Especially when you own the business. Friday night was one of those for my son and I here in my cafe. I opened cafe at 430 am friday, we closed at 215 am here. The cafe was really busy all day and night. We had people on computers, drinking coffees and sodas all day and night. Im very tired now, as we re opened at 6am mexico time. Im glad I had my son here. Business has been alittle slow, so when you can stay open and make some cash, you do it. Less that 4 hours sleep, but Id do it again.

14 to 16 hour work days are really tough mariaperalta. even moreso when one is doing this every single day of the week. i would take it easy though and really look at how your shop is doing on a daily basis. which days do you make the most money? is the income generated mostly from renting out computers? selling coffee? sodas? keep track of the stores performance for perhaps a week or two and from there, you can adjust the store hours of your cafe. you can have longer hours on your peak days and perhaps a shorter one on off-peak days. hope this bit helps mariaperalta. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

well, you are earning during these long days so its really not that bad. what you need to do is to maximize these long days and determine which days of the week is the most apporpriate to have these extended cafe hours.

Yes we do what we need to to survive. That is true. But we also can become run down as a result. I remember when my son was born, he woke up about 9 times a night for almost two years. I was getting around maybe 2, sometimes 3 hours sleep. After a year you feel the pinch of lack of sleep. I was run down and feeling as if I was going to collapse. I survived somehow. And I also used to have to work late for end of month. That all took a toll on me. And when I got home I got yelled at by the evil ex for not helping around the house. Go figure. She got home in 5 minutes from her job. I had to travel over an hour each way. I know how you feel. Fatigue is not a good feeling. Just try and take it easy.

You do need to rest. Believe me. I burned out after a while. It was hard for me to going in the morning. I got to the point that when I was at work I found myself sometimes just looking at the computer screen. Strange feeling.

That's the price you have to pay when you want to earn and keep a good business. At least you get to earn and at the same time be with your son. Just imagine another mom who spends the same hours as yours working somewhere else and she has to leave her kid at home or with someone else. It is difficult for you, but I know that eventually it will be rewarding. Hope your business picks up!

I'm sure you'll get used to it. The thing is you have to be much more careful with the food you eat and the drinks you take. Since you lack sleep it's very much important that you compensate on other things like the food you eat and having exercise. Make sure that at least a day off a week to make up for those days when you didn't have enough sleep. Keep up the good work! I hope I'll have my own business in the near future.

i guess, its a bit long hour, still it is always wise to serve better in cafe like business and long hour opening is one way of good service. Moreover, sometimes, you sit idle for the whole day and just before 30 min. of closing a group came and spent a good amount n a good bill for the shop. So no one knows when yr pockets will be full, it may be sudden or slowly. Keep it up. But min 6 hr sleep is mandatory too.

well just make sure that you always give time for you and if you trust your son let him work for you a few hours to give you a few hours off it will also tech him how to be a bussiness owner or manager

That's a long time Maria. Are you OK? I think you need to hire some help because you can't do it all yourself. Your boy should be in school. I hope you are making lots of money there.

I give you props for the extra effort however, you should be aware of the time you are putting in to a business. Business are there to served you they are not there for you to become a slave of them. I believe that now that you have achieved some type of recognition around your area. That you should be thinking about hiring part-timers to run the business for you and us your son as a shift manager. That is if you would like to take your business to the next level.

I suppose this is what every business owner will have to do to earn money where unlike working for someone there is really no limit to the potential income and loss even. I think it important to realize that since you are the owner, you should not forget to be in control of the business than the other way round. I know that it may sound crazy to ask that you hire a helper but you should value the assisted help which helps you find the proper time to rest, care for your child and at the same time allow you to plan for your business to profit. There's no point working yourself off like a horse which you are not and run into health problems which will cost you dearly in terms of medical expenses and stopping of your business when you need complete rest.

Wow that is an incredibly long day and maybe you should perhaps consider hiring one more person. My advice would be to hire a college kid because motivated college kids like myself are more than willing to work long hours and late shifts so that way they can afford their college career. It sounds like your cafe was happening last night though and I'm hoping that your business continues to do well. I just hope that you can also find a way to keep yourself feeling good and being able to take care of yourself. I've been dealing with the same problems with my two jobs. The hours are really long and I'm always sore and achy but I need the money to be able to pay for college.

I do not own my own business, but I do have a job that often has open shifts. I can take extra shifts and there have been times when I have worked every day for weeks at a time. Money is nice, but then again, there are things more important than money. I know I am not in your shoes, but I do hope that things get better for you.

I understand because of my Childcare Business. I had kids up until 2am this morning and then I got up at 6am to prepare breakfast for all of them. I had 4 hours of sleep too! I am right there with you, Lol. I had to stay up to make sure they were all safe before I could sleep... I completely feel your pain but your right it is definitely worth it! And we do what we have to do to take care of the kids and our family. =) I hope you and I can catch up on some sleep soon!
