All people want to have smart, adorable and intelligent babies. So today it is very popular when a pregnant woman listens to the classical music as the education for the baby. I am curious why the classical music will make the baby smarter?

Supposedly the unborn child can hear the music and it makes it more apt to be smart and want such in their lives. It is just a theory and has never been proven to be true.

Even though, many mothers still try this method.

The only reason I can garner is that babies find it calming, relaxing and will be more contented, I am sure there have been tests done to prove this theory. What I do know about classical music is that it is used to dispel unruly gangs that hang around shopping centres causing nuisance, now that does work, it's uncool for gangs to listen to classical so they disperse!

At least I don't think it will give babies any hurts to listen to the classical music.

I have also read that listening to certain music gives you different area of development (of the baby's brain). It's like listening to Mozart's music is good for Maths, Vivaldi's is good for some other area. It's because how the music was composed, I have also read Mozart's music has a lot of repetition, and this is something good. I can't remember this well. I also read that as long as the music or songs are soothing, then it's good. Classical music are always nice to listen. But, I have also read that the best way is to sing to your baby, and not to listen to the CD (mechanical sound) that much. Mother's voice is always the best, the most natural, the most comfortable to the baby.

I kind of think it may be because it doesn't have too crazy or violent rhythms... maybe. But I have another theory. People who listen to classical music, mostly are educated. So they are going to bring their child up really well, with really great education, lexical knowledge-wise. So maybe it's not necessarily the music, but the whole education at home what counts... just the British scientists needed some new researches :P.

Perhaps it is not so noisy and therefore it is good for the babies.

I heard that it is good for the pregnant woman to listen to songs and music. I think it is good for the child to listen to the music and I think it is good for newborn babies also even though I am not 100% sure.

Classical music is said to have a "mathematical" property, and is thought to help "program" the baby to be better at math. It is also hoped to help improve their taste in culture.

Classical music is interesting, fascinating and magical like to a yet to be born baby. A pregnant lady can feel relaxed and happy listening to uplifting classical music. The baby will hear the lovely music and get some before birth education.

Perhaps the mom has a good mood when she listens to the classical music, and therefore it is good for the baby, too.

I think that classical music has much the same effect on babies in the womb as it does to us. It helps us to think and relax. These two components help to broaden our minds. When we are calm and able to think we are able to study, research, get more things done.

What we like today may be classical tomorrow. So calling any musical classical is something I find vague. :) Lets call it music of the past and why it is better for the babies. In the past, most of the music was slow, just like the life of those times. There were no sudden jumps in notes most of the times. The slow rhythm is ideal for the baby's growth as any sudden noise alarms us, and baby would feel such thing too. When alarmed, we tend to shut down some involuntary functions automatically - like the heart skipping a beat. In the case of the baby, that can hamper the growth. Unlike it, the slow music of the past allows the baby's system to set a pace of growth, and maintains the momentum of the entire physiological system at that pace by vibration or otherwise.

It is beyond me why some people believe in prenatal influences.Does it work? As to why it should be classical music instead of others,I think most of classical music are beautiful and make people feel easy in mind ,as compared to some of pop music. The latter tend to have exciting rhythms.

I think this kind of music is the base to all other kinds of music also it's more relaxing. I let my son listen to this kind of music a lot also to celtic music by now it is his favourite kind of music. He is not really into pop music. BTW I did read that the kind of music children hear in their first years (even if they are not born yet) they will like for the rest of their lives, so also if this is hard rock. If it does make the baby smarter I don't know. I have no prove my children would be less smarter if they would never heard classic music. Fact is they all are high(er) intelligent but this runs into the family (and I doubt most of us heard classic music.)

I think that is fascinating that such music is good for babies. I have read that pregnant mothers play the music for the fetus while it is in the womb, by placing speakers close to the womb. I do not have kids, but I do leave the transistor radio on for my cat and bird, they seem to like it on, so I do leave it on for them.
