SF from Museum - Golden Gate bridge from the Disney museum

About a month ago, I got a dealsaver for the Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. Tickets were half off (usually they are a rather pricey $20 per person), so I snapped up 5 of them. We decided to go there on Saturday. The weatherman said it would be cold, and possibly rainy. You can see from the picture I have attached just how accurate he was. It did look pretty cloudy coming into SF, actually, but when we got to the part of the museum that had a huge picture window, voila! The museum was awesome. We got there (it's in the Presidio), and the kids were hungry, so we got the twins some cookies, me a banana, and Dearra some (gluten free) chili and yogurt. After we ate, we went and stood in line. There was NO line when we hit the cafe, but a long one when we got out. Anyway, we turned our vouchers in for tickets, and went into the museum. It was a two story affair that started with Walt Disney's early life, and his early career, and went all the way through the end of his life and after. There were plenty of things for the kids to do, interactive screens, flim clips, etc. Cary got stuck on the one where you synchronize the sound with the picture, and Naomi had to drag him away. Somewhere in there he left his jacket behind, but the people at the museum found it for us. They had a lot of information behind the making of some of the movies, tv shows, Disneyland, etc. They had a huge model of Disneyland circa 1970, coincidentally the first time I remember going there, right after Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion were built. And of course, the gift shop on the way out. By then, everybody was REALLY hungry, and after trying to find a place that looked like it might have gluten free choices in town, we headed back across the bay and found a Denney's. Dearra found something (but grumbled a lot), Naomi had a kid's meal, and Cary ordered ham. Yup, just ham. Two side orders of it. All the way through the meal, Naomi pestered him for some of his ham. But Cary stood firm and didn't give her any. At the end of the meal, Dearra applauded him for standing firm. But we did have a good laugh over it. How was your weekend?

Saturday we did "Easter" with the roomie's folks and her nephew and his family. Sunday, after church, my brother's girlfriend came and we went to lunch. When I got home I lay down until time for Doctor Who... Did I mention Doctor Who, well, we watched the new episode of Doctor Who on Saturday night and then the old, Doctor Who episode on Sunday. And a good time was had by all!

It was odd, but I really liked it, really struck my science fiction chords. I quite liked the "spoon-heads" and the whole idea... making wi-fi a tool of the enemy... quite appealing!

Wouldn't be the first thing I've seen where people could be uploaded, but usually it's been a choice, not a weapon.

We taped it. The kids watched it when we got home, and I watched it on Sunday. Rather bizarre episode...

it was totally exhausting. my mom had total knee replacement a few weeks ago and i have been there most of the time but managed to go to church on Good Friday morning. then we went to her house for dinner (which i brought as i have no siblings) then go and set up in the meantime for an outreach that our church did Saturday morning. Saturday morning we did the brunch (i did the crafts for the kids), the rest of the day we hung out with hubby's family for Easter. Sunday morning, we went to church and then we drove our daughter back to college (about a 2 hour drive) and turned around and came home again! today, no holiday for hubby or i. we both had to work today!

Wow, knee replacements are awful. Keep a close eye on her until you're sure it went ok (family horror stories).

Sounds like you had fun. The weatherman is never right it seems. We used to watch the weather channel just for the fun of it when it came to tornadoes because they would report a tornado in our area when there was none, but when there was one, nope it was clear.

Geez it seems to me that a tornado would be one situation where you would really want the weatherman to be right.

This was the weather channel based in GA. Yeah you'd want it to be accurate for sure. Now we go with saurtown mountain (radio broadcast) for our area.

The museum sounds interesting and entertaining. Your kids are a hoot. Glad they all found something they could all eat. Sounds like Naomi should have gotten a side of ham. I have never been to Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm or any of them. My great aunt lived in Covina, California when she was alive and we went there to visit when I was twelve. They all made plans to go to Disneyland the next day and I was so exciting I don't think I slept very well. My body decided it was time for me to start my period that next morning and I didn't feel like going to Disneyland much less the living room. My periods have always been horrid and my first one was no different. Heavy, painful, miserable. So that was my only chance and I missed it.

You know, I told Naomi to order a side of ham, but no "what if I don't like it, I just want a bite". Too bad. Tylenol didn't help? :-( I missed the castle in Limerick, Ireland for the very same reason...

We have several little restaurants in our neighborhood that are either gluten-free or serve plenty of gluten-free products. One of them, almost across the street - has the most delicious and beautiful giant cupcakes that are gluten free....all sorts of flavors. And other pastries, too - even some you can buy frozen to bring home and store until you are ready to eat them. Plus, they offer breakfasts and lunch that are gluten-free - pancakes, waffles, french toast....sandwiches.... And homemade soups. Also, a lot of vegan and vegetarian offerings.

That's fun for the little ones. I didn't do an egg hunt this year, just handed each one of them a chocolate bunny and said "Happy minimalist Easter",but then their dad came over later and hid some chocolate for them.

I have EAster supper with my older son and his family and my niece's father-in-law was there as well as my daughter-in-law's parents were there as well. We had turkey, bunny cake, salad, roasted vegetables, potatoes and gravy and two kinds of stuffing. The children played together. The kids were at the kids table and they made a mess. The girls closed the door of the bedroom and said 'no grownups allowed.' Harry's dad does not speak good English as he is German, so my niece and her husband Harry had to translate. All in all really good.

Ach, I could have translated for him. :) If he went slowly, and didn't speak in dialect, that is.

Probably, the trouble is that Harry speaks both High and Low German and I had no idea if his father did the same and he probably mixed up both dialects. My husband knew Low German, but he is no longer around. And I am not that good at languages.

Sounds like a great deal and a good way to spend the day. You would think that more restaurants would have more choices when it comes to being gluten free or pertaining to allergies in general. The sooner they realize that so many people have certain problems the more $ they will make. We spent the weekend with the family here at home. Nothing too exciting. Easter baskets and such and a quite family meal.

Denny's had this awesome chicken with sauteed spinach, and when I went there about a month ago it was gone. They had gone back to fried food and gluten gluten gluten. I guess their healthier menu wasn't selling.

We actually had a really nice weekend this past weekend. On Saturday I took the children to two different Easter egg hunts that were sponsored by churches here in town and then we met up with Tom and my mother and sister and we decided to try out a new restaurant here in town. The wait was very long but the food and the atmosphere were really good. Then on Sunday we went over to my mother's house and had an Easter egg hunt for the children and enjoyed a nice, simple dinner at home.

Hello friend, Glad you had such a good time. It is always nice to plan an adventure and have everything work out well. My grandson, my son's boy, and his wife were in town since he had a 4 day leave from the Army base in El Paso, Texas. They drove here (home area for both of them) in their new pick-up truck. Like most of us, he traded in his old vehicle which as many young people learn, was a bad choice for his first vehicle. It does seem like a long drive from El Paso to Denver, but I think they wanted to try out that new truck to see how it did. It will be nice when he is transferred in December to Fort Carson and then the trip will only be about an hour and a half to here. I'm grateful they had time to meet us for lunch on Saturday at Red Lobster (gluten free lunch for me). However, I did find we could have gone to Olive Garden for their gluten free menu also. I have found several gluten free alternative places to eat out other than Chinese or Mexican Food places. Of course, at Chinese I always have to ask if their noodles are gluten free. But shrimp scampi was a great lunch with salad and broccoli!! But it really wasn't about the lunch, hubby and I got to spend some time enjoying their company and getting to know his wife. Hadn't seen either of them since before they got married. At least we didn't have to go to Taco Bell for a gluten free taco!! But during lunch we talked about all the places I used to take him to visit, and because of that discussion they decided to go to the Denver Museum of History and Science. My grandson always enjoyed going there when he was younger, and was really looking forward to taking his wife with him. Other than that visit, hubby and I stayed home and kept a low key weekend going. He had made me a Betty Crocker Gluten Free Chocolate Cake, so life is good!! Any day with chocolate is good for me.

I mostly worked all weekend, but I worked early morning shifts so I actually got to do things before the sun went down. I went shopping with the kids on Saturday and out to dinner. We watched Rise of the Guardians Saturday night. Sunday I made dinner when I got home from work and bummed around the house. to Cary!

I did not know that the Disney Family Museum could be so interesting and entertaining. I always have the impression that the themeparks are the best and not to be missed attractions. As we do not celebrate Easter here, the family just had a normal one which involve having breakfast together and deciding what to do when we hit the mall, breaking away and meeting back at a certain time. Lunch at a local restaurant - steamboat buffet and went to the park to see Cherry Blossom which was very very crowded. The weather is getting warmer and we are expecting rain the day after.

The theme parks are awesome, and you could spend days just to see everything that's in one of them, but the museum was perfect for just the afternoon.
