Stupidity

Can you believe the stupidity of some people? Two people have bought ferrets, pumped up with steroids and groomed to look like poodles. Can you tell the difference between a poodle and a ferret? It gave me a giggle anyway. Check out the photo and story on Yahoo Australia. http://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/-/world/16621818/pet-poodle-turns-out-to-be-giant-rodent-pumped-with-steroids/

I saw that yesterday and showed it to my older daughter right away. She and her boyfriend own a ferret and my daughter was SO upset about what had been done to those ferrets in the quest for money. She figures they are suffering because ferrets are actually very sensitive creatures, in many ways, and it's quite easy for them to become sick or even die without the correct care. Naturally, that wouldn't include stuffing them with steroids I can't believe, having seen the photos, that anyone would have to be told by a vet that those weren't poodles! They don't look anything like dogs... their faces are so different!

I'd like to think no one is THAT gullible but I guess they are, huh? I'm also thinking the person might have had the ulterior motive of "getting a good deal" on what he thought were pure bred poodles. I may be jaded but, where I live, we have a terrible problem with puppy mills. Backyard breeders that generate so many litters of puppies just to make fast money. Dogs are big business and it's just sad. Pure bred poodles are expensive and to see two of them available for $150 should have been a red flag... but I guess everyone wants a "bargain"... even when it comes to pets

Ferrets are funny creatures. When I was cultivating raspberries many years ago, I kept a couple of ferrets to rid the fields of rabbits that ate the tops of the raspberry canes in the winter, thus making the plants unproductive. We would put the ferret down the rabbit hole, and when the rabbit smelled the ferret it usually came out very quickly and we caught it in a bag. But if the ferret cornered the rabbit in the hole, the ferret would not come out until we lowered a piece of bacon rind on a string. The ferret would then clamp his jaws firmly on the bacon and we could retrieve the ferret, on the bacon, very easily by pulling up the string.

How interesting. The ferrets I've known (?) have had sharp teeth and could give a nasty bite. I don't know who I feel more sorry for the people who were duped or the ferrets...nah, it's the ferrets.

I heard about this one, and was thinking "What next?" Personally isn't there better things you could be doing with your animals and how safe is this really. I guess it is to each their own, but to me this is going a little too far.

Even if you were a little bit suspicious about the ferret not looking like a dog, why would you shell out $75???

That is really stupid. They look nothing alike except being the same color. And do they know that ferrets burrow in their yard and down in their furniture. I hope they enjoy themselves.

And ferrets are the colour of wheat, maybe a bit more yellow, definitely not white, so I'm thinking these poor babies are albinos. Too sad really.

I heard about this on Live with Kelly and Michael this morning and saw the picture. The ferret was scary looking to me. Like something from outer space. I can't understand the stupidity of people to do such a thing. They sold them for 150 dollars each. Now what I don't understand is how someone could not tell that it wasn't a poodle. The ferret was not cute at all and I just want to know what were they thinking?

I read that the man paid $75. Yes, I thought that too...anyone could tell it wasn't a dog, let alone a poodle. Doing something so dangerous to the poor ferrets was also stupidity and cruelty. I hope they had to answer for it.

I'm beginning to theink the story of a ferret being sold as a poodle might be a hoax...nobody would be that blind, surely?

You would think that there would have been a clue when the "poodles" did not bark. In the same article I thought it said someone also bought a ferret Chihuahua. I believe where I live a ferret would cost more than the dogs.

Absolutely...a Pomeranian maybe but a poodle or a Chihuahua a definite no=no. How did they account for the fact that the "poodle" had such short legs, let alone the absence of a bark?

People do have ferrets as pets but still...they have really, really, really short legs. Poor little ferrets are probably quite confused among other things.

I think that's stupid and funny at the same time, You can't tell a ferrit from a poodle....he should have made him sit and bark before he bought him....cute little guy though

I saw that on Yahoo and I thought "there is a sucker born every minute"! I can't believe this guy could not tell the difference between a mini Poodle and a Ferret! A vet had to tell him! Now that is a really naive and stupid person! I can see the person who sold the Ferrets on steriods is laughing his head off knowing he duped this guy! He is the smart person!

The poodle ferret is like a poodle just as a mouse is like a cat. How could someone be that blind. How could someone treat an innocent ferret in such a cruel way? Bloody idiots all of them.

It gave me a giggle too! It's amazing how people can come up with these ideas to pump up ferrets with steroids to make it look like poodles. And it's even more amazing that some people couldn't tell the difference, and were even duped to buying these. Isn't this animal cruelty?

I think it's animal cruelty on 2 counts...firstly pumping the poor animal full of steroids the secondly, selling the poor animal to an idiot.

I have never been a fan of animal torture. Steroids and animals does not go together. What is the point of pumping a ferret to look like a poodle?? I would reckomend buy a poodle instead.

Hello Jan and a warm welcome to myLot from this old timer. I agree with you wholeheartedly and what I don't understand is that it still looks nothing like a poodle.

Good grief! Well, maybe those people had never seen a poodle up close. But even someone looking at pictures of poodles could tell the bodies are different. I've seen ferrets and handled them--stinky, but sweet--and can't imagine there are many things MORE different from poodles! It just goes to show that you can fool most people, especially those looking to save money. People want things they can't afford and there are always dirtbags waiting to take advantage of that.

I feel that this story is perhaps a hoax. Either that or the people that bought the ferrets were visually impaired and what's the chance of that. Ferrets run with their bodies close to the ground because they have short legs. Poodles have relatively long legs. Then there's the matter of the face...the difference is the same as that between a rhinoceros and an elephant.

Oh the poor ferret! Steroids are bad for people. I can't take them because of bone loss. I wonder if any long term damage was done to the animal?
