While reading books i feel very happy of learning new things...
But i am forgetting few things while reading books...
Am i not following the correct way to read them?....
Is there any specific time to read books to keep the subject in mind?...
Are there any good ways to read books to remember all the things what we learn from the books?...
Ultimately i want to improve my reading skills to sharpen my mind...
Please let me know the useful ways if there any in your mind.....

I turn on the meditation music on my iPod and then i read or study, that works for me.Reading can be improved only by practice, along with that you have to work on your vocabulary too , more words you know easier it becomes to read.Best wishes.

Music can be distracting especially those with lyrics. So, I prefer instrumentals if I need to hear soothing sounds while reading. But in general, I think reading should be about training your eyes to recognize and comprehend words. Sometimes, it helps if we articulate what we are reading so music may not be appropriate.

Hi bloggeroo
The meditation music i use is instrumental not with lyrics, you are spot on in pointing out that music with lyrics can be distracting.I tried that actually and it didn't work for me so i shifted to meditation music.May be overall its not a good idea, but it surely works for me.Best wishes.

You mind keeps what you uses every day in the quickest parts of our brains and the other stuff in other recesses so to pull them up you need your memory jogged.

Focusing the mind is very difficult. The mind is like a horse which jumps from one direction to other.
Whenever the mind thinks of something else while you read books, you take a few deep breaths and then continue reading. Perhaps this could help you concentrate on the book.
Moreover, one must imagine the scenes in the book. Imagining the scenes will help the mind focus on whatever we are reading.

Our brain keeps wandering here and there when we want to concentrate... Just order you brain to come back to you.. Sounds silly, but try it...

When you reading a book, you should not remember all the thing in the book, but remember the main idea of the book. The rest you can improve with your logical. Most of great men just remember some main ideas of a knowledge, furthermore they improve them.

I agree with you. Reading has to be a pleasure and not a painful endeavour. When reading, we understand what we can without stress. If we learn how to read like that, we wil read more and more and it will be easier for us to concentrate.

I think it depends on the type of book that you read and reason why you read that book. If it is a book that I have to read for school I need to understand and remember the different idea in the book so I write notes about each chapter. I try to write the ideas of the book with my own words instead of just copying the words in the book. If it is a non-fiction book that I only read because I am interested in topic I don't take notes. I simply read the book and afterwards I might not remember everything from the book, but I have always learned something new. I like to take small breaks when I am reading something, and when I return to the book after the break I have new energy.

If it's for school, write a lot of notes and go over them. I have had this problem many times - of "zoning out" while reading a book. What a problem indeed! Especially if it is something you are being graded on for school or work, you need to pay attention. If it's not, just find something that catches your interest?

When you read you must make sure that your mind and spirit is one. Read because you want to learn, read because you want to feed your soul. We do have a different styles in reading. You might as well experiment yourselves. Try to experiment reading in different time of the day.
As for myself, I find it convenient reading at night before I hit the sack. It relaxes my mind, spirit and soul.

Reading is indeed substantial and can fill us up with some undiscovered experiences. It can enhanced us to think more and to make us to react or compliment or can even flow out some ideas . It can even sharpen our minds to make things in better especially in some decision making, we need some stock of knowledge to what is the best option to undertake.
In the things been mentioned above maybe it is good to have some list of what needs to remember . Especially when our minds are preoccupied by something, we tend to forget things so easily.
To make things clearer and unforgotten we need to have some notes of the things seemed important . Or better to undergo some meditation . There are things also good for memory enhancement .
I have read some out from the internet. One way is exercise , it can improve your memory. Another thing is drinking plenty of water. Because our body could not function well if there is insufficient level of water. Accordingly our body is just like a gas and fuel to an engine. Cars without them wont run. Just like our body. If there is insufficiency of water intake it can have malfunction to every part of our body.
Hope i contribute something with this post. Happy Mylotting and God bless us all ;)

You should take a break for a few minutes after an hour or maybe minutes of reading. Human brain has a capacity to remember or store all those he have learn on his memory. Maybe You read too much and you store lot of information so, it is the time of your brain to refresh it and take another information. Get back reading after a minutes of break.

Hello gamyam,
I do read books whenever i want especially if i spotted a very interesting subject.I usually went to my room and there i read silently so that no one can bother me.I take my time to read as much as possible because I believe that reading can help us in different ways, our vocabulary will become larger and we became informative. The best way to improve our reading skills is to practice regularly,The more we read the better reader we'll become. We should feed our mind daily with a good source of information. We should keep reading!

Depending on the subject matter, whether it is leisurly reading or school work, my focus might be different. When its something I want to read, I can read anywhere and don't even hear people talking to me. When it comes to schoolwork, my mind might wander more.
If you read too long, maybe you just need a short re-energizing break.
If is is something that you may be worried about, write it on a piece of paper. That works for things that might pop into your mind while you're reading too. If things pop into my mind when I'm reading I think I am going to forget that thought when I am done reading so I keep thinking about it. Writing it down on paper lets me focus back on reading, because I know that thought will still be there on paper, even if it slips my mind.

There's an old book by Mortimer Adler. It's appropriately titled How to Read a Book. I'm not sure if it is still available in print or even if it's available online. But his book is quite a definitive guide for tackling every reading scenario.

Learn to focus on what you are reading. Have a visualization of what is written on the book. Make yourself comfortable while but not too comfortable that could make you sleep.

There are some tips for you to improve your reading skills, which I think it is useful for me:
1 Before you starting reading something, you can take a deep breath, and hold for a while until your belly feels a little bit full, then release. It will help you to absorb enough oxygen, fresh yourself and let your attention concentrates on your reading.
2 Taking notes. If you want to learn something, you should start taking notes in the margin, which will help you to get some main points. We are not genius, and we cannot remember all the things by reading once. The more notes you take, the more ideas you retain, which will help you to comprehent. You may not disagree with some points writen in the books, and you can write down your questions, which will help you think.
3 Summarize! Trying to summarize the main ideas from the book.
If you want to do the efficient reading, you can follow these steps for acquiring some knowledge.I think it will help you a lot!

Do you mean you forget parts of the story? or you forget what you've read? Anyway, let me give you what works for me. I tend to highlight points that are striking and memorable but I don't ruin the book. I collect them in a notepad and try to write about them or use them in discussions to see if I'm getting and using the idea correctly. Hope is makes sense, hehe!
