I normally do not look at users' profiles but take part in whatever topics posted if they interest me. I also do not look at profiles when I get responses to the topics I have posted. For some reason I had to check this user's profile and I was caught unawares. This user is only 23 years old but I always thought she must have been in her fifties or sixties. Maturity and age does not go hand in hand Your views please.

I have one user in mind with your description there, and I wonder if we are thinking of the same one... I enjoy checking users' profiles; it's part of my myLotting fun as I said here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2649291.aspx I guess right most of the time; but yes, there are few users who caught me off guard. They may seem mature for their age, or the other way around. But I tend to think that those who say they are in their late 40s and their posts clearly show that they cannot be are just lying about their age here.

You are converting this topic into a quiz! I don't think anyone can bluff their age here but they can hide it.

Trying to guess the ages of the posters makes it more confusing to me... And I prefer not to know anyone's age... asking or trying to know about the ages of ladies is considered bad manners

Hidden like mine... My avatar throws people off sometimes. But anyone can easily guess around what age I really am from my posts...

Hi, Maybe somebody else is doing the writing for her? If it is true that she wrote every single thing on her post, then she had advanced thinking not common among younger persons. But the, how can we tell it is really her own words? I have no idea how, short of giving her a quiz in real time. Then how can we be sure it is her real age? If I can see the birth certificate then, her youth may be established with certainty. Just my thoughts, I am cautions by nature, especially when navigating on the high seas or in the jungle like the world wide web.

Age and maturity does not go hand in hand in some exceptional cases.I know of a few people in real life who are very mature and philosophical for their age; the corollary is also there because I have seen eighty year old people behaving in an immature spoilt manner.

In the normal course maturity and age is expected to go hand in hand but there are exceptions to this rule which work both ways. Here in myLot I don't think my assumptions were right, not in this case anyway where I thought that this user would be around fifty or sixty but in fact they are just 23. No more guessing for me kala!

Hmmmm.. seems to be a mystery to be solved. But still it doesn't matter as long as he/she is mylot fanatic. And we can learn something and have a great discussion with him/her then its all good. Maybe, they are two people having one account sharing ideas..

I believe they can deal with mature participation. I have seen many youngsters who are truly bless with knowledge and wisdom which can deal with any situation. I believe they maybe clueless today but someday they will surely overtake us. They say that the children are the key for a brighter future.

But it is happening at a rather rapid pace. Atleast from what I see around me I just cannot digest it. The other day a nine year old sits cross legged at my place - he is a friend of mine. Yes. He is my friend as I can carry on a mature conversation with him!

Two accounts and out one goes from here for good! As some users have pointed out it is possible for youngsters these days to come out with mature participation.

Well this is world of technology, now children of 3-4 years are operating I phones, Android mobiles and computers.Obviously the exposure is so much more. One can download various eBooks on different subjects easily, reading and understanding them will make your smarter and improve your IQ,and that reflects in your answers and attitude. This is one part though ,another thing is experiences in life, some people have to struggle a lot from young age. They don't get the support and protection many people get,so they learn the hard way. That makes them gain maturity faster than others. This is just my opinion but i think maturity has lot to do with intelligence and pragmatic approach.Best wishes.

My point is to highlight not to go by our assumptions. Maturity I think these days, as you say, has least to do with age as there is so much out there that teaches today's generation in that they become mature before their age.

Although postie effects are more, but there are negative effects too.If a 12year old girl/boy gain early maturity and start acting like 16-17 old girl /boy,obviously there are things which they may do which should not be done by a 12 year old.

whoops looks like I have my facebook photo on my profile. Not too hard to see my age. Anyway, I rarely look at profiles unless I'm doing a friend request. since I am recently back on here after some time away, I'm seeing more profiles. There are very thoughtful responses on here so it will be interesting to see if I can guess correctly. I will enjoy seeing maturity in a youthful member. I wonder though if everyone is entirely honest about age?

You prompted me to visit your profile after you drew my attention to your photo here! No. I will not guess your age. I am no good there! We are expected to give our correct age. It gets uploaded there automatically if we do not want to hide it. When young display maturity it is a refreshing feeling.

I have experienced that situation several times. I don't look at other members' profiles very often. I tend to base my impression of other members on the things that they write when they start discussions or respond to discussions. I recognixe their names when I see them, but I am not friends with them and I have never looked at their profile, I only have a mental picture of them based on the impression that I got through the things they have written. Sometimes I get surpriced when I visit their profile, because they are much younger or older than I expected. I have read a quote about maturity: "Maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated" I believe that is true.

That makes two of us Procospino. I too conjure up a picture of a person if I get to interact with them frequently, even if they are not on my friends list. But what we imagine could be way different from what they really are!

On this one game site I visit, there are many teens there who have the maturity expected of someone in their 30s and up. Its always a surprise to me to find out their real age.

What we learnt in school is minuscule compared to the kind of exposure today's children have. We too are benefiting with that exposure but they have better grasping power.

I never really mind, viewing profiles. I just like responding articles or discussions whivh seems interesting to me. I have never been too curious about anyone here, maybe soon I just don't know why. Maybe I am just pre-occupied on responding discussions and on how the discussions go seems to be my impressiob to such person.

"Wisdom comes with age"...Ha! Not all the time! I act much younger than my age at times when it comes to joking with my friends, girlfriend, or family. I love being silly, but mostly I am serious. Sometimes certain people bring out different sides of a person too. Like here in myLot, there is one user I answer his discussions jokingly, because he is always so serious. He rarely answers me, but I expect that.

This is one place where we get to interact with all kinds of personalities and for which I am grateful. In one's real life there is monotony, if you ask me! Acting younger and giving one's opinion on a subject are two different things. Acting younger is a good thing. It kind of creates a pleasant atmosphere.

that's what i realized when i joined mylot. i'm amazed at the depth and breadth of the experiences of the members in my country and around the world. it makes you open to other points of views and see your own situation differently and maybe question the status quo.

I don't know. Why else someone have to lie in mylot ? This is not facebook where most users lie a lot. Maybe than very few users are lying about their age like her, even here. But most are correct,i think. OR maybe the user you are referring to is very hard worker, and knows a lot about writing.

Why should any one lie. It is only a matter of opening our eyes to the fact that how today's youngsters have achieved far more than the older generation because of the exposure..

maturity is nothing to do with age. in fact what makes one more mature depends on the experiences one gains through his life.one can also be more mature by reading more books as books expose us to many things in life. so i personally feel maturity and age doesnt go hand in hand with each other

You have got it right. It is the exposure that contributes to maturity but there is the tendency to believe that the older the person the more mature they are.

Hello dear Allknowing I hope that you are fine. I use to watch users profiles when they refer to their country, or when I read something that stranges me. I look to profile to know about which country they are writting from. Well I think that maturity and age doesn´t fit. Each time my teens hit me with a very wise phrase I just admire them, and I remember young Jesus wisdom, but I also see that my teens are mindfresh. They don´t have so many duties as we adults have. Blessings Allknowing... dainy

When I participate here I assume users' ages which I really should not be doing as after this experience when I saw a 23 year old giving me such mature responses it is not the right way to go about. These days youngsters as you have pointed could teach us oldies a thing or two!

I don't go with the profile either, unless they're using their real photo. Anyone can post/write fake information. I've encountered one who wrote Male- but infact he is a SHE. It's hard to determine the real age or gender from the profile alone, particularly here in Mylot.

I go by how they participate which I have now learnt is not a wise thing to do, certainly not after I saw this user's age which did not match with the maturity with which responses were given and topics posted.

maturity and me I love the way I am and let the things come on to me for delivery as they come... Though I dont feel comfortable in that guessing game for ages of lotters, I have had my odd days when I had guessed someone to be a male and then the he was a she...

That is more irritating when someone bluffs their gender. I think myLot Admin should do something about it. I assume a user's age but I now know it is not a wise thing to do, not after my experience!

Hi ! Maturity and age goes hand in hand is not true to all. I am a one of the exemption . So many times where in it is always the child in me that speaks and dominates. Sometimes because i felt shame i controlled and tamed it but there are many unguarded times where in it really goes out unconsciously . I maybe at right age but dominant in me is my child side. This is sometimes risky i know for one wrong decision , life and life's of others or my future or their future will be damaged. That is why in making a major decision i got to think before opening my mouth to check whether i have done the right thing or not so no regret will happen at the end. Sometimes i will ask my close confidant about a decision .

There is so much of truth in what you have said. We all tend to act immaturily sometimes although we would be old enough to give a serious look at situations. It depends on the upbringing in that if one is spoilt it ends up that one always behaving a child. Were you spoilt?

Hi there! I think she reads a lot or is very socially active to share thoughts that are very mature. I think, nowadays, it is to learn anything and everything. "Age doesn't matter" isn't only applicable in love anymore, even in mylot ;)
