I like to buy fresh herbs and spices from a bulk store. Last year I found these really neat jars made by the Ball company. Yes, the same ones who make canning jars. The little shakers were in the canning section at Wal Mart. I like that they are small, easy to open and keep my fresh spices fresh. I have been using cumin a lot to season things as it cuts down on how much salt I use. It is supposed to help with all kinds of health issues and it just tastes good.

I still buy the packaged spices. My favorite spice has to Oregano. I love the flavor and it goes greta with lots of different dishes. I never tried cumin. I think I would like to try that.

Cumin is great in Mexican dishes and Middle Eastern as well. I have grown Oregano. It makes a gorgeous potted plant. It is good for a lot of things as well.

@GardenGerty I love Oregano. I will try cumin as well at some point. I will talk to my girlfriend about it. I am sure she tried at some point.

I have a couple boxes at our community garden. One of them is dedicated entirely to herbs. I end up with HUGE amounts at the end of the year. I'm still running of last years harvest. I'm thinking I wanna start getting exotic next year and grow my own saffron. I always thought it was some tropical, exotic spice, but apparently it's just from a crocus flower that can grow just about anywhere.

I didn't even know Walmart had a canning section. Will be good to know in the future if we ever get another veggie garden growing. Right now we only have some water melon that got out of hand and is growing right beside our burn pile.

My store has a growing section of ball / canning merchandise. I do not think we carry those yet but I imagine they will be a top seller for our customers. I may have to see about finding them somewhere though as my cousin has a herb garden, these would come in handy for her.
