Bad Reaction as I Come Off a Medication

I have been taking the medication Neurontin since March for anxiety and fibromyalgia. No one ever warned me what would happen when I decided to come off of it! My anxiety has been crippling these past few days and beginning last night I've started to have physical side effects. My legs started to cramp and ache, then I was overcome with the most horrible restless feeling. It is something there isn't even words to describe. I've had it before - as a bad reaction to anti-nausea medication they give me in the ER for migraines. They have to give me Ativan to knock me out until it wears off there. I thought last night it would wear off, but then when I was at group therapy today it started up so bad I had to leave the group. Luckily, I got in to see the nurse practitioner. She put me on Cogentin for a week to hopefully help me through the last part of the Neurontin withdrawal. The first pill has helped a lot.

I know this issue oh so well. I have endometrosis and ulcerative colitis. Sadly, many doctors tend to shrug it off as they dont know how to handle it. I get so fed up with taking the meds that dont seem to work. I have stopped so many, and have had so many side effects. But they will eventually go away. Sometimes it can be a few day, to a few weeks.

I am greatly hoping this is only a few day thing!

@Lolaze you never know it really just depends on your body. I have been on different meds, and some have been a few days whereas others have been weeks.

@ricki_911 I seem to be better today. I haven't had any bad symptoms and haven't had to take the Cogentin so far :)

Often it is better to wean off of these slowly. My sister could not take neurontin at all.

This was even with weaning off. I tried to just stop a few weeks back...I ended up in the hospital!

Allopathy does that - it always has side effects. I believe in homoeopathy and it works for me.

That is why I will not take any medications. I am not into side effects. And I always have a reaction to medications. I was in given Vitamin D by my doctor and I took one, I got real sick to my stomach I stopped. And I never took another one. And that is only Vitamin D. Imagine other meds. I had had reactions to some meds in the past. I never took more than one.

I feel bad for you as I have been there a few months ago I went off my depression and anxiety medication. At the time I was working which meant 3 days per week I was walking delivering for 5 hours and then went to the pool for an hour to help my body relax. So I decided to go off and I did. They did know it would be hard but I got through it and I feel better for getting the chemicals out of my system. Be strong you will get through it and you will feel better. Good luck!
