Nothing Simple Anymore

My neighbor wants to buy our house. He cannot just hand us a check, it turns out. He has to go through a title company. We have been waiting for the Title company to investigate and clear our title. I think we get to close today. That is a good thing as we are supposed to be closing on the house we are buying on Monday. We have to give the tenant in the other house thirty days notice. From the first of a month since he rents month to month. So we should finally have our house all to ourself Oct. 1, 2015. Nothing is ever simple.

I am glad that you will finally be getting your new house. Congrats to you. All of the hard steps will be worth it.

We may not close on Monday, as I have not heard from the title company there. We did close here today.

@Shellyann36 We are set up to stay here until Oct. 1. We just need access to the other one to move thirty years worth of accumulation in.

@GardenGerty I hope it stays on schedule for you. If you don't close on time will the new owner let you stay longer in your old house?

Is anyone throwing you a house warming party? I don't know exactly when that happens. I know when you get your first home people throw a housewarming party. I say it should be whenever you move... I wonder if people have housewarming parties in general anymore.

For the new pastor here, or for his wife, they are having a Pampered Chef party, as some of her stuff was lost in the move. I just barely remember going to an old fashioned house warming party as a kid.

@GardenGerty That's cool. I remember having one at my parent's home a couple decades ago. We had moved out of the parsonage (in Spencer, and I was 14 at the time of the move), and for the first time my parents bought their own home. So a lot of the women in the church came over and brought some gifts like towels, and the like. I remember clear as day, my mom thanking a lady for a baking dish and the lady saying, maybe now you'll invite me over for dinner more often. My mom had class so she didn't say anything. But I sure wanted to!

More money would make it run more smoothly, but that is always the case.

Nothing is simple, and it takes even more time here. When you want to sell a house with a tenant, you have to notice to the tenant the price you want for the house and he has 6 months to buy it or leave it. If the buyer needs a bank loan to buy, it can take 2 or 3 months more before the final deed of sale is signed and you get your check.

The good thing is that this is being done without a bank loan. The tenant has had opportunity to purchase this property, but has not stepped up to it. I am sure the more banks, and other legal entities that get involved the more complicated things become.

Here in Connecticut we use attorneys not title companies but when we bought our Florida home that is where we had to go, the title company. I hope all goes well.

I know it differs from state to state. I think we could have used an attorney, but the title company was the least expensive way to go.

@GardenGerty I thought it was much easier too, we just sat down at a table signed a few things and bought our house. In Connecticut it is so much more complicated and yes very much more expensive. But you can't use a title company in Connecticut, lawyers lobby must be strong lol

Life can get quite complicated sometimes. The government told me it would be simple to refinance my house. Turns out, it isn't. I am glad you finally got it taken care of.
