How honest are you?

People think they are honest, but are they? Are you? If your best friend buys a really ugly sweater and asks, "Do you like it?" what do you say? Do you say, "No, it's ugly." or you do you tell her a lie in order to avoid hurting her feelings? Another friend has gained weight and it's very noticeable. She says to you, "Do these jeans look good on me?" or "Do they make me look fat?", how do you respond? Telling the truth would make you an honest person, but it might also hurt your friendship. So, are you honest and how honest are you?

I would tell the truth.a great friend does that..no reason to lie to the friend...and then they get their feelings hurt later when someone else tells them, they might accuse you of not being a true friend so I'm a tell it like it is type!

It is always easier, it seems, to be more truthful in person than on the internet when you think it should be the other way around.

I am always completely honest. If they are a true friend, they would want my honest opinion, not a sugar coating of the truth, or a bold face lie. All my true friends know not to ask me a question unless they want the God's honest truth.

@AbbyGreenhill No, it's true, sometimes the truth hurts. I don't always like hearing it myself. But I rather be honest with them from the get go, then have them hurt that much worst when they do find out the truth.

I try to say something nice. Giving a compliment instead of pointing out the flaws. But no, I won't tell people they look fat in something but I never tell anyone they're fat. Not a good thing to say.

The 'fat' thing was an example. And I happen to live in the 'fattest' state in the union.

I don't think I am too honest and I do not believe that there is a person who has never lied in all his lifetime.

I have one friend since 3rd grade (that was in 1958 or so) and she would know instantly if I was not telling the truth!

I like to think I pretty honest. But some people look good with some weight on them. I don't mean fat or real chunky, but with meat on them bones, sorta speak. So many models I think, are nothing but skin over bones! Not all men likes that, there are some men who DO like their women with some meat on her bones.

Hi, speaking personally, when something is not right , I would say it, especially to my friend and I expect the same from her.I would tell her laughingly that she may have to lose some weight before she thinks of wearing those jeans or something like that..I am not saying that I never lie but there has to be a good reason or else it is much easier to tell the truth and be honest, no complications ..

The one thing about telling the truth is you always remember what you said!

There is a thing called white lies which are harmless and they save many a situation.

There are ways to tell truth. You don't necessarily be sounding that rude when you say - No Its Ugly. I would rather say, well, it looks alright but then, you know I dont like this color... or anything that can sound unhurting. I am honest and always prefer telling truth. Yes, I did lie many a times and on almost all occasions, I had many problems due to the lie thing. Today, I dont bother. If I cannot speak the truth, I prefer to get into confrontations and bail out.

I would think most of us have lied at some point but lying about minor issues isn't as bad as a lie about stealing or something like that.

@AbbyGreenhill Hi welcome to mylot , I am not at all honest , i feel that no one can be 100% honest . Some may try very hard to be honest , may fail to stand in some cases but i appreciate those who are trying hard .

It depends on the individual friend. I know who will get hurt and who really wants the truth. But I'd never say "it looks awful." I would say "a V-neck looks better on you" or "flare jeans are better on your figure." or something like that. For some friends, I know better than to tell the total truth.

I will the the true in my mind even is not good, because if later he/she know that's not what I'm thinking will give that person a bad impression and probably he/she won't ask my opinion next time.

My friends are my reflector and so am I for them. So, whenever I ask them anything I expect them to be honest and they expect the same from me. I give my honest opinion to my friends without the fear of loosing their friendship because our bond is strong enough to bear the taste of truth. I think that if we cannot be honest to our friends just because they will get hurt then certainly it is not true friendship neither are they true friends.
