Do you like reading? Do you have any favourite authors or favourite genres? Do you stick to a few authors or genres or do you read many different types of books?
I read many different types of books for instance novels, short stories, poetry, autobiographies and non-fiction. Some of my favourite authors are Guy Burt, Penelope Evans, Richard Kalich and O Henry. I like psychological horror, stories with twists, books based on true stories, historical fiction and many other types of books. I read non-fiction books about psychology, crime, history etc.
I have read a few ebooks, but most of the time I read printed books. I have a collection of books in my home and I borrow lots of books at the library.

I have read most of Agatha Christie's books. Like you I have a collection of books in my home, and I read fiction as well as non-fiction. I use the library a lot. That is cheaper than buying books all the time.

@Porcospino Surprisingly here in India second hand books are almost as cheap as borrowing books from library ..So, I normally buy second hand books at a bargain price, the same goes for some magazines - old editions of National Gegraphy , Woman and Home are really worth the money !

I grew up in a family where there were many books and novels. I wasnt allowed to read most of them - Pary Mason, Harold Robbins, Sydney Sheldon (hope I get the name spelt correct), Agatha Christie and many others. Maybe I was too young that time for such novels. But I never liked reading those either... they were too thick (too many pages). Instead, I started with comics, then with The Hardy Boys and then came the time when I got enrolled in a local library (which closed down eventually due to lack of readers and sponsors). From the library, I would get Lev Tolstoy, o'Henry, Charles Dickens and read them out to my granny.
I would love reading some novels that are about Psychology, Some kind of Research, knowing about personalities and even Sci Fi (as in the lines of Star Trek). Unfortunately, Books today are much costly and I manage to buy only the ones related to my area of work.

Like you I grew up in a home with many books. My father has always read a lot, and before he became visually impaired he had a huge book collection. It is a pity that your local library closed down. It is true that books are expensive today. I don't buy new books very often. I usually buy second hand books instead or borrow books at the library.

It looks like you eventually grew into reading thicker novels if you read Tolstoy. You were probably too young as a boy to read those first novels you mentioned. one should not read books before one is old enough to appreciate them.

Exactly. Even my grandparents who were fond of reading those heavy ones used to say that.
As for Tolstoy, the Library from where I borrowed them had several smaller ones. I realized much later that these were translations and abridged versions written by Indian Authors.

I used to stick with a selection of favourite authors - Sue Grafton, Ed McBain, Lawrence Sanders, Joy Fielding, Andrew M. Greeley - until I started entering book giveaways. Getting free books to read has opened me up to new authors and genres. I usually pick books within my genres but occasionally I make a mistake. I opened a package with a book labeled Young Adult Paranormal Romance. I shook my head because they didn't make that clear in the description, but then I read the book and loved it!

Sometimes it is interesting to read books from other genres, and we might discover that we actually like those books just like you experienced when you received that book. The same thing has happened to me. Sometimes I receive books from genres I don't usually read, and I get positively surpriced.

Do I like reading? Are you kidding me? Does the sun rise in the East? Does it set in the West? Of course, I like reading.. i don't just liek it... I LOVE READING!!!
As for a favorite genre, I really don't have a favorite genre as I read a wide range of subjects. I do have a couple of favorite authors such as Mario Puzo, Clive Cussler, and James Clavell.

That is one thing that we have in common. I also love reading. If you saw how many books I borrow at the library you would be shocked
I also like to read many different kinds of books, and I read fiction as well as non-fiction.

I'm interested in so many things it's hard to stick to one genre. I read books about nature, gardening, history, memoirs, and fiction. I even read children's books -- mostly to review them. I enjoy mysteries, detective stories, legal thrillers, Debbie Macomber, Carolyn Hart, and too many other authors and genres to mention.

I also find it hard to stick to one genre because I am interested in many different topics. I read fiction as well as non-fiction. I have a collection of books in my home, but I love to borrow new books at the library. I read a lot and it would be too expensive to buy all of the books that I want to read.

@Porcospino Yes. There are several books I'd like to read that the library doesn't have and for which there are currently no free eBooks available. I really don't want to buy them, so I'll just stick to what I have until I get lucky.I already have enough to read for as long as I live.

I also prefer traditional printed books. I have read a few ebooks, but most of the time I read printed books. Like you I have been a book lover since my childhood, and I have a collection of books in my home.

@Porcospino I've been surrounded by books for as long as I remember. Taught myself to read when I was three and never stopped. I prefer printed books, but read eBooks while on the stationary bike and treadmill at the gym. It's too hard to hold a paper books there.

I don't read as many books as I'd like to because I spend far too much time online or watching television. When I do read, it's mainly non-fiction, though recently I've read a few novels by Ben Elton which were really good. I don't really have any favourites though.
