Do you or have you ever belonged to a labor union?

I am just wondering if you are or were a member of a labor union do you feel that the dues you pay are being used towards your good? My father was a staunch union member in fact he was at one time a steward for his union. Once years ago I applied and was hired for a job that was a closed shop (meaning you had to join their union) or you couldn't work there. We had some issues and asked to have a meeting well we (the workers) were told they could do nothing so I said okay then I quiet and that was the last time I ever wanted anything to do with a union.

When I worked for the city of New York years ago I was not in the union. They hired a bunch of us and called us provisional workers. They kept promising the civil service test but that never happened. Eventually, well over 5 years later they let a bunch of us go. They also contested my unemployment. Which I had to hire a lawyer for. I won.

I can believe they contested your unemployment as that is what some companies seem to do so they don't have to pay what you put into the company. Then on top of that promising you the civil service test and not having you and the rest of the people take it is unforgivable.

Yes when I was working at grocery stores, different ones in another state and in the late 60s. They had labor unions for the workers there.
Yeah unions can be quite intimidating..glad you were quiet lolz

@Marcyaz Where I lived at that time it was nearly mafia type guys for union bosses.

I have never been a part of a union. One factory wanted to bring a union in. The factory owners didn't let it.

@Marcyaz Yes, that is what happen where I was working to. if you got caught trying to get people to join the Union, the employees were told they would be fired. Plus, they would pack the factory up and move to another state where they had a second factory at.

I once worked for a company where some of the workers wanted people to join in but the company frowned on this and said if you were caught trying to get people to join the union you would be in big trouble. The union was never let into

@Marcyaz I never joined any labor union, but I have some idea about them. One of my uncles joined the union and he explained that there will be many politics in those unions. I saw some in movies so I do have an idea. I am a daily labor at Mylot and thank god here we don't have any unions.
