Mom and dad forever ... Do you do these for your pets?

Yesterday we were driving through the country side when I noticed a whole lot of umbrella like trees. We call them the Singapore cherry trees here, they have tiny , sweet smelling red fruits which I guess are really sweet. . I was screeching at my husband to pull up somewhere and stop so I could pick up some fruits for our pet birds. When he stopped I asked my boys if they would pick some fruits for me; the boys looked like I have gone bonkers. Our older son even told his father that he couldn't believe that we stopped to pick up some wild berries for the birds. To make a long story short .. finally it was only my husband and I who got out and picked the fruits off the trees. When we got in the boys laughed at us. I reminded them that everyday I cook what they like and we always do stuff their way.. the birds were no different we would always be mom and dad even to the birds.. That kind of sobered the boys down a bit.. A good lesson learned for the day. Do you do things like that for your pets?

@sofssu I tried giving the wild birds fruit, but they ignore it so i don't think mine would enjoy cherries

@Rosekitty These are wild little fruits.. not exactly cherries, even thought they are called that.. we used to have them near our previous home and all the birds used to flock to it.. that is how I figured out what our birds would like. The birds gobbled them up in no time

@jstory07 Its a natural thing now to think of what they need and provide for them.. they are part of the family now. so it doesn't make any difference to us.

I had to look up this tree, sounds like a nice one. I sometimes remember to put food out for the birds, but we really like the squirrels better, or, should I say, the CATS like the squirrels better. I wonder if I could find some to plant in my yard...

@sofssu well, the good news for the squirrels is that my cats stay inside or on the cat porch.

CATS like squirrels.. you.ve got to be kidding they eat them up for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack on them too. Its a very pretty tree,, the shape remain naturally beautiful like an umbrella. The flowers and the berries are sweet smelling. Not a big tree really.. and Squirrels love them. I have just planted a small one in front of our home.

I have only the guinea pigs and I do buy them some fresh veggies at the market for a treat. They need a little something to make their lives more interesting, the poor, wee things.

Your boys have yet to learn how to be caring to your pets .Yes, we always think of our pets specially when we go out to eat . We get the leftovers for the dogs.

@SIMPLYD The boys take good care of our birds but they think that bird seed is enough.. you don't need to do anything more than that. I needed to give them a lesson in life.. and it was a good opportunity like none other.

I have no pets, so the answer would be no. When we lived in West Texas, I had a bird feeder we would fill for the wild birds. Since moving here, I only have a hummingbird feeder outside, in hopes to see a few hummingbirds now and again. And don't worry, but kids wouldn't have gotten out to pick the fruit either. Unless they were planning to have a war by throwing it at each other.

@sofssu I get one or two here and there. I want to make a 'humming bird' flower bed. I was gonna do it this year, but the time got away from me. So it's a project I have planned for next year. No, I'm afraid I don't. Oh my boys would have.

Yes, I'd do that for my pet, though I don't have any now. We used to buy lamb steak and steamed for our dog, once in a while. I think pets are like one of our family members too. I know the cherry tree you mentioned, we have one in the playground nearby too. A friend told me it's called Muntingia calabura, we also call it cherry tree normally. We just picked some cherries from the tree yesterday while we went to the playground. My boy likes to climb up to the trees and pick the cherries, I think it's a tree that is easy for children to climb. My kids are still very young, and I think they will enjoy doing this thing for the pet, as it's fun for them. We don't have birds at home, but we always put out some food for the birds.

@LadyDuck I guess it helps having berries in their diet.. Though my birds have a whole lot of fruits and veggies fed to them.
