It is the first day of school for my grandson. He starts middle school today. He has to catch the bus at 6:25a. I think that is reaching a little bit and hope they make it later in a few weeks. Last year it was 7:30a. School doesn't even start until 8:30a. or 9a. The school he will be going to is clear across town almost in another town. He used to go to school nearby here about four blocks from us but he is in a special class due to his ODD so he has to go where the class is available. I am not a morning person and nor are my kin. Ugh! I woke up about 1a. and stayed up just to be sure they were able to get up. They are used to getting up about 10a. or so. So they are up and now I need to relax and do a few z's. Any body else have to get up super early?

I'm up early everyday for work. Most days I'll be up just before the older kids leave. There are a couple days when I can sleep a little longer because I go in late, on those days my kids won't see me in the morning because like you, I'm not a morning person! It's been years since I've been able to get up to get the kids on the bus everyday. I do make a point to be up before the younger ones leave though, regardless if I'm working that day or not.

@celticeagle Yes unfortunately they do, but I sure love my sleep!
Must have been tough working an evening shift with kids around. I've done it a few times but it was part-time work so I wasn't working everyday and I'd be home by bedtime usually. That was a few years ago. Now that the twins are all involved in sports and band and such I just can't work in the evenings, I've got to be their chauffeur!

@katsmeow1213 -- My mom was watching my daughter then so it wasn't a problem and I was home until she got home from school. That's when I had family. Now all are gone. Just me, my daughter and two grandkids.

I used to have to do that. When I worked at the telephone company I worked a evening shift. Worked six hours and got paid for eight and didn't have to put up the early morning crazies. That was nice. Kids to make it necessary to get up don't they? LOL

There was just a study on this saying that schools start too early and expect too much homework for the time kids have after school... more so when they are in after school events like sports or band.
I was up at 6:00 for a 6:25 pick up in middle school.... I was the first on. Driver said he started 2 hours before his arrival at the bus yard.

I saw one last year on the same thing. It is sad. And yet they don't teach them squat it seems like. I hear all the time where certain classes are being taking off the schedule. I walked to school when I was in junior high and mom took me when I was in high school. Hard for me cause I was usually up late. Never have been a morning person. I remember sleeping through my home room and first period. Ikes!

@TLChimes same here. We all are on meds and they help us get to sleep. Mine not so much. Yes, when I was in school they taught these things too. Don't know much what they teach now. My GS is in a special class because of his ODD. I wonder how they expect kids to survive. Is that more responsibility for the parents or the cell phone? LOL

@celticeagle None of us are sleep at night people... the youngest two do only because they are on medications. Mornings are not our thing.... (Online schools are great when faced with this problem)
No they don't teach what kids actually need to survive in the real world anymore, they only teach to the test. When I was young there was art, music, woodshop, auto mechanics, home ec. and so on. Things we could use in the real world or that helped us cope with the work we had. So much of that is gone now.

When I was a bus driver I got up at 4:30 a m. My kids, if I was taking them to a sitter or taking them with me were up before 6. My first pick up was about 6:35, out in the country. We needed to pull in to our first school at five minutes before 8.

I would be doing most of that in my sleep I think. I applaude you. Too early for me. I had to be at my last job at about 8a. and that was difficult for me after struggling with my granddaughter that I had guardianship of at that time. She liked to wait until I went to bed and then she would sneak out. I would wake up and have to call the police to report her as a runaway and then try to make it to work on time.

In our area to save money the bus drivers are picking up the high school and middle school kids first and taking them to school, then they pick up the elementary school students after they have dropped off the middle and high school students. The middle schooler on our road gets to the bus stop at 6:30. My son is in elementary school and gets on the bus anywhere from 7:15 to 7:30.

That sounds like a good plan. That is about the time my grandson caught the bus when in grade school and now in middle school. Makes sense. Just seems early but it is nice having him home earlier.

@celticeagle Yes the middle schooler that gets on so early gets out of school at 2:45 and is home a little after 3. My son (elementary) does not get out of school until 3:15 and does not get home until 4 or sometimes as late as 4:30. That makes a long day for a little kid.

I am ready for a nap too. I have sleeping issues. Getting to sleep, staying asleep, sleeping at normal hours, etc. The full circle basically.

@celticeagle I know what you mean. For me, I never had any problems until I went through menopause about 8 years ago. Ever since, I can probably count on one hand how many times I have slept through the night in 8 years.

@simone10 I have always had this sleeping problem but it does seem to be more pronounced now. Weird.
