I used to live in a haunted house

We believe that our old house was haunted. Strange things have been going on since we moved in. When we went to the basement we often discovered that the light was switched on, and my husband and I didn't do it. At first we thought that there was a rational explanation, and we asked an electrician to check the electrical installations. Everything was fine. One night my husband was in the bedroom upstairs and I was downstairs. Suddenly he screamed my name and I ran upstairs. He told me that he had seen a ghost in the bedroom. The door between the bedroom and the hall was open and my husband said that the ghost entered the bedroom through the open door and moved from the door to the area in front of the closets. It slowly turned around and then it disappeared. My husband only saw it once and I never saw it, but I had another strange experience. One day I was home alone and I was sitting in the living room with my laptop (downstairs). Suddenly I heard a click sound from basement. The lightswitches in the basement are old and there is a clear click sound when they are turned on and off, and I recognized the sound immediately. Someone had switched the light on in the basement. A few minutes later I heard footsteps on the stairs between the basement and the ground floor. I knew that it wasn't my husband because I could see the driveway from the window and our car wasn't there. My first thought was: ”It is a burglar” I was very scared and I wondered how I should defend myself The footsteps continued and when they reached the top of the stairs they stopped. I was afraid to open the door and I stayed in the living room without moving at all. I waited for a long time and nothing happened. Then I finally opened the door and there was no one there. I was afraid to check the basement, but I did it anyway and it was empty. The door and the windows hadn't been damaged at all, and it was obvious that no burglar had entered the house Have you ever had a similar experience?

During the night, especially in winter, we hear footsteps inside our house, but there is no one around to be seen. It's a bit creepy.

On the lighter sides - I would think it is the Santa as you mention this happening only during winters. On a serious note, it can be creepy and scary

@LadyDuck That sounds creepy. It makes you wonder where the footsteps comes from. I will never forget the day when I heard footsteps on the basement stairs. When I checked the stairs there was no one there. That was very strange.

@Porcospino Several times I get out of my bed and go to the stairs to check. Nobody is there. Sometimes I also hear muffled footsteps in our bedroom, it is creepy.

I've had some strange things happen to me too. I'd feel things touch me when I was completely alone, for instance. Nothing too scary, but just odd.

It was a little creepy, but it didn't feel scary or threatening, or anything like that.

It sounds strange. I have heard strange sounds, but I have never experierienced a situation where someone or something touched me. I would find that pretty scary I think.

Fortunately we don't live there anymore. We still own the house, but we are trying to sell it. Our new house is not like that at all.

I would love to stay there (of course not all alone) for a day or two but living in such a condition with "ghosts" around, can get scary and I might die as I am quite easy to get scared many a times. I normally dont buy stories that are floating around here in the local area, but then, I know, there are some places on the earth that have this "haunted" thing in the air. Just out of curiosity, did you consult any Occultists or people who deal with such things? I agree, there might be a few fake ones too who would make you more scared, though.

No, we never consulted occultists, but we talked about it. In Denmark there are tv shows with occultists. I don't believe all of them, but some of them have helped many people. My husband and I sometimes joked about the situation in our house and on my birthday my husband gave me a present from the ghost. He laughed and said: "Since she lives here, and disturbs us all the time, she might as well give you a present" It can be interesting to spend some time in a haunted house, but I agree with you. It is not nice to live there, When I slept in our bedroom I sometimes thought about the ghost that my husband had seen, and I was afraid that she would come back, but I never saw her.

@Porcospino I have read, many times the ghosts dont mess around with the people staying in their house. But then, it is we humans and we get scared. Living under a constant fear would only add to stress. But yes, on the other side, if the house is haunted (?) by a ghost like casper, I would love to spend my life in that house.

@thesids Casper is a cute ghost and I wouldn't mind sharing my house with him, When I came back to myLot I noticed that you had changed your avatar and I like the new one In Danish we have two types of ghosts, and they have different names, but I am not sure if the same difference exists in English. There are ghosts which repeat the same behaviour every time and don't interact with people and there are ghosts which try to contact people.
