I was at work the other day looking for jeans on mark down. You know how kids are always growing and when you don't make alot you are always looking for the best deals. There were no jeans small enough for my Tween let alone what I was willing to pay. As I said I was looking for 80%+ and said how I prefer to pay rummage sale prices if I can. The twenty something gal who was working in the department gave me the impression of "eww used clothes?!?!" I guess she's too good for used clothes but if I can keep my kids in up to date clothes for pennies on the dollar why not? I learned my lessons when my oldest was a baby and formula stained a $30 outfit and money doesn't grow on trees to keep buying $30 outfits every time a stain doesn't come out ect.
How do you feel about rummage sales and used clothes?

That is a foolish attitude. I was once told, when I worked in a deep discount store, that most of the customers were very well to do, and that is part of how they got that way, buying bargains when they could. My daughter, as a teen, preferred used jeans because they were already broke in and more comfortable.

A foolish attitude indeed. But I don't know her back ground only her name really so for all I know she has no idea how to be thrifty or why it's a necessity for many. Many of the college kids that work with me have no idea what it's like to go with out though declare themselves "poor college students"

@3SnuggleBunnies Everyone's idea of poor is different. Plus, people always seem to find enough bills to eat up all of their income so they have no left over spending money... so they could be bringing in triple digit incomes but still feel poor because all of their money is going towards large mortgage and car loan payments.

That girl will learn as she gets older and has kids of her own.
It's funny because I was just having a conversation the other day with a couple of moms who do have some money to spare, and they were saying how they do a lot of their shopping 2nd hand also. This one mom who has 3 girls who are always dressed very nice was telling me the best places to get clothes for kids of those age groups. The store out our way has nice stuff for tweens, but the store a few towns over has more stuff for younger kids, etc...

Maybe but you know some people think they are held to a higher standard and it's beneath them to wear or own anything "used".... but for those of us who do not have her good fortune are blessed to have what we do have.
Cool that you got some nice tips on places you may not of checked out before

@3SnuggleBunnies I have checked out the one nearer us before. I wasn't crazy about it. Nothing in my sizes. I might try the one a few towns over next time.. but I tend to like Salvation Army better because they have those half price tags that the Rescue Mission doesn't do.

@katsmeow1213 they closed our local Salvation Army last summer the building owner didn't renew their lease and no one else would rent to them in the area. The closest one is 30 min away and is just not nearly as nice and a fraction of the selection. I really miss their half price and back to school deals... I got lots of nice things from there and when we were in a pinch we ALWAYS found a deal on a shirt or slacks ect.

I love them. I clothed my granddaughter that I had guardianship of for a dozen years in garage sale dresses and outfits. We used to go every week-end. And when raising my daughter her play clothes were always second hand and she had to change into them when she got home. I made more then and was able to buy her clothes first hand.

I LOVE buying used clothes. It's the only clothes that I buy. Used clothes are so affordable and brand new clothes are so expensive, but you can never resell them for some reason. They are definitely overpriced! I would have done the same thing as you.

You can resell used clothes like things you wore once sort of thing but you are right hard to get any bites. Though you can look at tons of resale pages on facebook and they want clearance prices. Affordability is key in my world.

I prefer used clothes especially for my boy since he is rough on clothes and forgetful (I recently bought him a nice shirt only for him to wear it a couple times and then lose it
) So I own't buy him new clothes if he won't take care of them.
