Yesterday we had a National Bandh ( closure) organised by trade unions and actively supported by the opposition Congress party ,which meant that part of the nation was paralysed. In my own state we had no public transportation and schools, colleges , banks and other offices were closed because majority of the people could not reach their work spots. There were reports of violence in some states. It is highly irresponsible of these trade unions to blackmail the entire nation because they have some issues with the government and this happens in our country from time to time and according to news reports ,yesterdays national loss was around 400 million dollars !!!..Do you have this sort of a thing in your country when almost the entire nation comes to a stop?

@simone10 This month we have had two bandhs in my city one was yesterday...It is a protest against river water sharing because what is being proposed is a half baked idea that leaves one part of the state almost dry...

@kiran,I disapprove of these bandhs and strikes that harm our development.Political parties grind their own axe by calling strikes and bandhs. They have nothing to do with people who vote them to power.

Same here, when you are unhappy, you can lead a demonstration and show your concern, that too should be done peacefully but not bring the entire nation to a stand still..

@kiran8 Exactly. And they,if they are dissatisfied with any government policy, they take the whole nation on ransom.

Is that so, for what reason Tiara ? But I don't think you would have strikes and shut downs as frequently as it happens here .Our shut down was so unnecessary and what a waste !

@kiran8 I have been reading a lock down of government possibly in November. They did this before. It is becoz the parties cannot agree on something like national debt I believe. Do not understand it. But then who understands government? haha

Yes especially if someone is sick or has already planned on travelling,! We were watching the news and there were so many travelers stranded at bus station , railways stations and airports because there was no transportation available!

I have seen some photos on the European newspapers. It is sad when a Nation is blackmailed by irresponsible trade unions. There are people who need to travel, this is very bad.

It definitely is ! It is also alarming that a few people with absolutely no clear agenda can hijack the nation and make its citizens helpless !

@LadyDuck So, you have strikes there as well...probably not as many as we have here ! Bandhs are common here since we have one or two each year !

@kiran8 This is the situation we had in my native country (Italy) during the seventies. It was a pain to go to work every day without public transports.
