Holiday Decorating

When my children were growing up, I would decorate for most holidays. They enjoyed it and it was a fun thing for us to do together. As they grew up and moved out, I decorated less and less until finally I didn't decorate at all. It just wasn't the same for me without the kids and this was before grandkids. All that changed when I moved in with my brother. He LOVES all holidays and LOVES to decorate. When we were growing up, our parents never decorated for any holiday except Christmas and even then, it was only a small tree. I think that is why he enjoys it so much now. He gets excited like a little child and it warms my heart. My brother has already decorated for Halloween. Yes, he is one of those kind of people who decorate early. He just can't help himself . When we moved from Vegas he sold all of his decorations so he is having to start over again. Do you decorate for all holidays? If not, what holidays do you usually decorate for or do you decorate at all?

@simone10 When you live alone you feel differently, than when you live with someone, as you want to do what they like, and if that means decorating then you do it. I am the only one that looks at them so I just don't bother, except for the small tree.

@rosekiss Before I moved in with my brother, I lived alone and didn't decorate. Even for Christmas.

I don't observe the same holidays, but the ones I do decorate for is Sukkot and Hanukkah. Mostly Sukkot because that is the one with lots of decorations and lights.

@Marcyaz For Hanukkah the inside looks pretty good, but Sukkot is outside in a temporary dwelling.

Like you, when the kids were younger we would decorate mainly only for Christmas and Halloween. However, when they grew up and moved out, the decorating stopped completely. Now if the grandkids lived closer, I would probably decorate for them but since they don't, I see no need to. It's a waste of time and money in my opinion.

@simone10 We certainly could be. I don't mind having a twin.

Yes, I decorate for Halloween, for Christmas and for Easter. Not too many decorations, but I like to put something around the house to remember the holidays.

@simone10 I do not decorate for Valentine's Day, but I prepare a nice dinner with a special table cloth and candle lights.

@simone10 oh when i was younger we did the scary "statues" (us kids pretending to be statues and scare people) etc. My neighbors turned their carport into a mini haunted house it was quite fun...

I do not decorate much any more a few wreaths for Christmas and that is about it. I would decorate for Halloween if we had any children coming but we are so far out we have no Halloweeners come here. I do not decorate for Easter or any other Holidays. I do like to go around and see the pretty decorations at Halloween and Christmas. When I was a child my parents always decorated for all Holidays.

I wish my parents decorated more. I really loved Christmas and loved to decorate until my Mom passed away. It was really hard after that.

I have no kids here to decorate for so I do not decorate on holiday's. We always travel each major holiday so no point in doing that if were not home. My mom however decorates each holiday though as it's always been a tradition to do that. That's neat your brother enjoys it as well.

I love to celebrate the holidays and usually decorate for the main ones but Christmas I go all out for. I love Christmas and all the hoopla that goes into the whole holiday season
