Living in a Motel

Has anyone ever had to live in a Hotel/Motel before? I am currently living in a small, not too nice motel. We're waiting on an opening in an apartment complex me and my boyfriend are trying to get in the area we recently moved to. When I first arrived, I was very upset. I had never had to live in a hotel/motel, let alone a dumpy looking motel. However, it was our only choice for now. So, I sucked it up. We've been living here for a few days now and I am getting used to it. It's not as bad as I first thought it would be. Of course, it's not good either, but we can manage. At least they have a pool! We expect to be living here between 2 and 6 months. When we finally get into our apartment, it's going to feel amazing!

Isn't the cost of living in a motel so much more expensive than having an apartment? I'd probably just look around for the first apartment that I could get into, and then work on moving into where I really want to be after that.

@Angelee_27 I guess that's not bad, but still you could easily find an apartment for that price. Why would you wait up to 6 months to get out of the motel?

@katsmeow1213 Well, the motel we are staying in has a nice deal. It's $550 per month to stay! Now, if they didn't have a monthly rate, and it was only per night based, then yes. It would be incredibly expensive!

@katsmeow1213 Well, we moved here from about 7 hours away. So we needed an immediate place to go, which was the Motel. We are on a fixed income, and cannot afford a regular apartment. We cannot afford 550 rent PLUS utilities and all that. So, we are waiting on an opening in a low-income apartment complex. My boyfriend knows the managers and the people in the corporate office really well, so they are doing what they can to get us in as soon as possible.

The longerst my family and I were living in a motel was ten days. We had to wait for our house to close so until then, we had to stay somewhere. Actually, the motel we stayed in, was actually really nice, and we never minded it to much, except when the kids started fighting.

Well that doesn't sound too bad at all! If this place was nicer it wouldn't be as bad, but like I said it's pretty much a dump with a lot of the 'wrong people' hanging around.

@Angelee_27 That doesn't sound to pleasant at all. Haveing to live there for months, has to be hard too. I do feel for you though. I hope that everything goes okay, and that nothing happens to you.

@rosekiss We're staying positive that an apartment will be available for us sooner rather than later. But even if it takes a little longer, we'll be okay.

I had to live in one when I was much younger. I stayed about a month. When I was with my first husband. It wasn't bad. I think I could do it again. If I didn't have kids.

@Angelee_27 I would too. I have thought of traveling when my kids reach of age. If I do, I plan to basically live out of motels (cheaper) or buy a RV to travel in. I have also thought of camping in the warmer months and states, bringing a tent to pitch.

Oh yes, kids would make it much harder. Also I would feel a bit guilty if I had to stay in a hotel/motel with my children.

This is a good time to prepare for living in a apartment. It has probably been awhile. Getting used to cleaning and taking care of the place. Preparing food and the clean up after. It is going to be really different. I have never had to live in a Motel or Hotel except when I was on the road. Living out of a suitcase is fun for a few days but it really gets out. I bet you will feel like you have won a prize when you finally get into your place. Make the best of it. Good luck to you!

Oh yes, once we get into the apartment we are going to be so relieved! It will take a while to get used to cooking and cleaning in the apartment again but we will be so grateful to have it. Thanks!

I have never lived in a hotel or motel. I have stayed for a couple of days at a hotel but that is it. I think I would like it for a short time.

@gudheart Not mine either, but it's better than being homeless!

You wouldn't like this one. It's a small, dumpy motel with a lot of the wrong people hanging around.

I haven't, but my cousin did and it wasn't too bad. I hope you get a nice apartment soon.
