I want a Cleaning Lady!

I love my home - I really do. I hate cleaning it though - I really do. It's a thankless waste of time, and yet it has to be done. It's not as if you can clean, and just sit back and admire it. In a couple of days you get to do it all over again. It lurks in the background, grows dust bunnies in the corners, and strange, gross fur in the fridge. I'm a cheerful soul. I put a little lavender essential oil in my mop bucket, and adore the fresh clean scent that proclaims I've finally done the floors. However, the bathrooms and kitchen definitely take more time. One day I'm definitely going to have a cleaning plan. In the meantime though, I can tell you, I have a not so secret wish. I'd love to have a cleaning lady. I'm tired of not being paid for my domestic goddess services. This is a crazy world. I could hire a cleaning lady - well, not really, 'cause she would charge a hefty $30 per hour! But ironically, if she decided to clean her own home she'd get nothing. Zilch. So it would make perfect sense for all of us unwilling housekeepers to just swap houses and pay each other by the hour. As long as you're not cleaning your own home you can make some pretty decent money. I'd feel a lot more motivated. And I'd have a lot more to spend on the garden.. Jus' sayin'.

wait a sec! cleanin' other folks filth brings in that much these days?? dang, that's more'n i made trainin' horses. i've been a bum the past month 'n it surely shows in my house. in the mornin' i'm gonna start tacklin' it all though - one room 't a time, from floor to ceilin'. yer correct though, by the time i get done with one end 'n move to the next room, dust bunnies 'n cobwebs 'll already be formin' in my wake. i do it fer myself, to keep my sanity. which 't the moment is on edge.

@crazyhorseladycx Yep, that's the reality! You and I differ on this my dear friend. I'd choose not to do it, in a heartbeat, just to keep my sanity. Give me the garden anyday. Hugs and love

Right by the time you're done with one room and move onto another you need to start over again with that first room.

I feel a bit guilty because I DO have a cleaning lady! When I retired that was the one gift I gave to myself. Mine only costs £8 per hour, not sure what that translates to in your money. I always hated housework - it's one of those jobs that nobody notices when you've done it, but everyboby notices when you haven't.

@jaboUK understand that would be about 16 dollars here. So about half of what we pay! Guess your ladies underestimate their value. Kudos to you though - I'd be right on that!

I hate it too..so you aren't alone.. I used to clean houses for a living and believe me we were under paid..i'd get $25.00 for the whole house no matter how long i was there..very hard work..plus doing her dishes putting them away..do her laundry, dry and then put away..her sheets and towels..dry and then change the sheets on her bed..yes..i was underpaid..

Like you, I don't like cleaning. I wish I could just snap my fingers like Mary Poppins and have it all done. But since that's not possible, it'd be nice if we could have someone else do it for us. Thankfully, my husband does a lot of it. I'm just not good at it, although I am trying to do some during the day so it's not horrible when he gets back, but with three kids its a bit of a challenge sometimes.

@VickiJW they're all under four. I can ask my two eldest to help clean their toys, and little things like that. For the moment, that's what w're doing.

@dodo19 - three kids is a challenge, depending on their ages. In theory, as they get bigger and older, you can conscript them to do the chores, while you sit back and eat Bon bons. That's in theory though. Glad your hubby jumps in there for you!

just think when the kids are older they can help clean, cook and do laundry. Free help.

@Inlemay When I lived in SA there seemed to be a lot of house cleaning help. I always did my own though.

When I was in elementary school a long, long time ago, they told us by the year 2000 we would have robots that would take care of things like house work for us. Still waiting on mine...

@SuzieDQ you can get one of those robo vac things, and they're fun to watch.I believe there's one to do the mopping now too. You have to be able to afford them, and they're noisy.

Well you can go out now and buy one from what I understand. Might be a little pricey but hey if they work go for it.

How does that work? If you are paying someone and they pay you then you will have no money with you.

@VickiJW You can do one thing. Pay others less but charge others more

@allknowing I wondered if you'd all pick up on that! We can't really win can we?! The only thing we could hope for is a sliding scale of payment, depending on the severity of dirt! Hey, you really are all knowing !

I'm not a fan of cleaning my house too. But the most annoying thing for me is ironing.

I also love my home but I do not like mopping floors and washing windows. A cleaning lady is very expensive, so I have to do everything by myself.

@LadyDuck Looks like you and I are in the same position with this - but I do have a spin mop now, and that thing is fantastic! I use it for dusting and mopping.

I would also like to have a cleaning lady. We have someone who cleans the apartments where we live, getting it ready for people to move in. Some of the apartments have been disgusting. It's student housing so you can just imagine. Because of that, there is no way I would do cleaning for a living. My stomach is not that strong.

@simone10 LOL!! I think what they consider commercial cleaning is quite a different animal, no pun intended. No,I'm just thinking of other homes! Specifically mine.

Something similar to barter system I like that idea

@innovationReaction yeah, I like bartering, but not in this case. It's gotta be money and lots of it before I'd start cleaning other homes. Just having my own is enough of a trial.

If I could tie up all the people in my house and just leave them, my house would stay SO clean! I agree, I would really sue one too.She could just follow the kids around all day and pick up what they throw around and that would be SUCH a help!

i feel you. i dont like cleaning my home unless my mom ask me too, then im gonna clean the house. sometimes im too damn lazy to even sweep the floor, so my other brothers would do the cleaning then. i agree that cleaning is a good way to make yourself comfortable at home. maybe you can listen to your favourite songs while doing some cleaning.it helps me though XD...anyway have fun guys . cheers ^^)
