Glen Campbell did it all in his career. He was a Beach Boy and a session guitarist. He had a career in country and pop music, beginning with his cover of John Hartford's "Gentle on My Mind" (that song won four Grammys that year, two for Campbell and two for Hartford) and a string of hits written by Jimmy Webb ("Houston (I'm Coming to See You)," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman"). After a lull he rebounded with hits in the 70's like "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Southern Nights." He also hosted a successful TV show on CBS in the late 1960's. All of this success was rewarded with induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He made the brave decision to be quite public about his journey as the disease slowly robs him of his abilities. He did a farewell tour and recorded a couple of albums. A documentary, I'll Be Me, was filmed and released.
News came today (9/15) that Campbell has been transferred from the facility where he'd been living to his home. His wife reported that the 79-year-old legend is entering the final stage of Alzheimer's.
Thanks for the music, Glen. I pray your final days are comforted by the love that you gave so many being returned to you.

Always loved his music. Witchita Linesman is a beautiful song. Such a sad way for him to go, but with so much bravery and so much pleasure left in his music which gives him a kind of immortality.
