Getting them confused.

As a kid, I used to wonder how my parents could get my name confused with my sister's, and vice versa. Sometimes, my mom would call me by my sister's name, or she'd call my sister by name. Our names don't really sound the same. It was something I would ask myself. I didnt understand it at the time. However, now that I'm a mom, I now understand a little better. I will mix up my kids' names. I think part of it is because I say all of their names a lot in a day. Sometimes, it's because I'm thinking of another one of them, while I'm talking to my eldest for instance. I have a better understanding of what my parents went through, and this is only one of them. Did any of you wonder about this?

My grandmother did a similar thing. She was talking to me and she called me my moms name, then corrected herself called me my aunts name, before finally getting to my name. I'm sure it happen to a lot of people.

That would happen to us as well. This discussion has reminded me of a story to tell.

I never wondered about it but thought it was funny. Then I started doing the same thing as a parent and grandparent. I even get my 2 dogs mixed up.

@dodo19 My grandmother didn't think so. She would get so frustrated but she was in her 70's and I think she was concerned because she couldn't remember like she used to.

I do not think I wondered, but I was amazed at how mom even managed to make us confused. I had two sisters and a brother, mom had a sister and four brothers. We might get called any of those names.Lots of choices.

Lol. Just a few names to remember, and get confused. It couldn't have always been easy.

My mom didn't, but my aunt - whom I used to be very very close with before she got married and has own family - keeps calling her daughter by my name. I just like to think it's because I'm very special to her.

It probably does. I also get my nieces' name confused. They are pretty special to me. What probably doesnt always help is that both their names start with the same letter. Glad to hear you had a good relationship with your aunt.

I really liked the days when I had all boys, I could just say BOY! and they would come, that all ended when I had my daughter though, so I had to start saying KID! yes, it happens to me too, I feel bad when one looks at me and says, my name is....I have to play it off and say, yes I know, I named you!

I feel bad too. It's not always easy. If I get them confused I correct myself pretty quickly but still.
