deputy sheriff's surprise

This Deputy Sheriff before his shift started stopped at a Dunkin Donuts for breakfast and as he was about to pay a little boy said I want to pay for that. The Officer said "In 26 years of my law enforcement career, nothing like that ... has ever happened to me." The parents told him as soon as he walked in the little boy said I want to pay for his breakfast because he helps so many people . With all the bad publicity recently this is a welcome change. This boy is being raised to know that most police officers are there to help and I give his parents a thumbs up. By the way this took place in Florida.

This is refreshing for a change. We all know not all cops are bad. But there again, the media has to shove it in our faces. Okay, there are some bad cops. Some corrupt cops. But not all are. It's the same with people. They make all Arabs out to be bad people because of the terrorism. Stereotyping. That's the problem. People see Italian as all mafia, all irish as drunks. I think you get the picture. This is a nice story and we need more of them in the news.

Thank You, we know not all cops are bad just like you say just because someone is an Arab does not make that person a bad person.

@inertia4 True a bad person can be any color not just one color.

@Marcyaz You're welcome. It is all stereotyping. It has been imbedded in our very fabric to think like we do. We need to undo that way of thinking. To me, a bad person is a bad person, I don't care about color or race.

He was worried that people would think him not so nice a guy with all the talk about bad officers but then when the little boy wanted to pay for his breakfast he was so overwhelmed he really didn't know what to say.

Great story. He and the boy who saved him money for the police to have a birthday celebration instead of him should get together.

That was a very sweet moment. Children are very generous and cute with their gestures to others.

@Marcyaz It's shocking to realize that those generous acts of kindness are almost non existent nowadays. This little kid simply did what he thought was right and the sheriff was surprised, because no one does that any more.

@besweet It is definitely a shame that we don't hear more stories like this. I blame the media for a lot of the negativity.

How sweet. His parents will have to bring him up to be law-abiding, lol. There are such a lot of bad stories about cops lately, but also a lot of tragedies where cops are being killed and silly stuff where people refuse to serve cops at restaurants. This is a nice change.

I enjoy stories like this. I have done similar things myself, without letting the officers know, though. When they went to pay they were simply told it had been taken care of.

I also would rather hear of stories like this than the ones the media wants us to hear. Oh good and I know they say a thank you to the one who had paid. You are a good person DW.

@gregario888 This little boy is being raised in the proper way to know that a officer is there to help and that is why he wanted to pay for the offier's breakfast.

"Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings." Yes, it's true that the lad was raised well by his parents (and probably heard at school, too) to think well of the police but it was HE who thought of the idea and wanted to make his appreciation known. Bully for him! (I'm glad, too that the family has been found and will meet up with and be thanked once again, this time officially, by Officer Jackson.)
