Kenny Rogers says bye-bye

Country Crooner Kenny Rogers has announced his retirement. Rogers won't slip out the back door quietly, no not the Gambler. He will do one last big flashy tour. At age 77 Rogers has made woman swoon for many many years. The way it sounds he'll be around at least 2016. .I didn't catch the schedule for the tour, but I don't think he gave out that information yet.

I liked Kenny Rogers more when he was a rock singer, believe it or not. The only song of his I have on my iPod is "Reuben James" from his "Kenny Rogers & the First Edition" days. Friends of mine who have seen him over the years have told me, independently of one another, that his shows are terrible: he rarely plays more than an hour, and sometimes not that long. (One friend said that she saw him in 1982, at the height of his popularity, and opening act Crystal Gayle played longer than he did!) Still, I'm happy he gets to retire on his terms. People like Randy Travis and Glen Campbell were forced to quit for health issues, so it's always good to see someone step away because they want to, not because health mandates they must.

Yes it is better to 'go out' while you're still healthy. Although it is questionable how healthy he is from the way he looks. I was never a fan, never saw him. I did see Crystal Gayle when we played in New Jersey about 18 years ago!

@AbbyGreenhill I think the way he looks now can be attributed to trying to have more plastic surgery operations than Dolly Parton's had! Just don't fight age, Kenny (and Dolly...and others....)

I like Kenny Rogers, but he is getting on so I guess it's good that he made that decision.

It is a shame, but I can understand that he want to have a more relaxed life.

@AbbyGreenhill This is true, there is no reason to continue if your voice has gone.

I think when they get to a certain age and the voice starts to go - it's time to go!
