What Else Can Happen

Last night I learned that the tenant in the other half of my new home, who is supposed to be out tomorrow, is in the hospital. A rehab hospital for alcohol abuse.
His family will finish the job of moving him.
He is twenty years old, has been living on his own since he was sixteen, but his family all seems very close.
That is part of the situation. He is not drinking because he has to move.He was in the process of buying and renovating a house when we bought ours.
He and his girl friend broke up two months ago. She got together with his best friend. Last week she overdosed on some kind of drugs, trying to kill herself, and it was stressing him. He began to drink heavily. In fact last weekend his friends went out drinking with him in the country, then abandoned him drunk. Some friends. He told his mom that there were some hours of this weekend he did not remember. He asked to be admitted to someplace to get help. Pretty mature decision for a twenty year old.
In addition his grandfather, whom he is very close with, is seriously ill, possibly dying. It seemed like just too much.
We hear about celebrities and near celebrities either abusing drugs and alcohol or killing themself. Life just gets to feeling too overwhelming.
This young man decided he had a problem and is getting some help, of his own choice.
His mom says that the rehab hospital was surprised that he made this choice, and that he is not in any legal trouble yet. He seems to be getting help soon enough. Perhaps he will be saved.

As his mom says, the young lady is fighting her own demons and she is proud that he knows what he needs to do to be better and get on with his life.

@GardenGerty If he made this decision himself then he will be alright in the end. His former girlfriend also needs help hope she gets it.

Yes, and he needs to see which friends which will help him and who harms him. Needs positive things in his life.

@GardenGerty Yes he does. He needs friends and family to be there for him and support him through this difficult time.

It is good when one can recognize they have a problem and to get help for it. Sometimes our friends don't want to recognize the problem. As than they will be forced to recognize they have a problem to or loose a drinking buddy.

The first step is admitting you have a problem, and he has done that. I'm sure his future will be just fine... he just needs to make smarter choices in his life.
