I usually take my dog for a walk in a quiet scenic area close to home. Outside one of the houses on the street there is always a bowl with water and a sign "Water for thirsty dogs" I never saw the person who lives there but I would like to one day to say "Thanks" How thoughtful of her and my dog does make use of it from time to time. Have you benefited from the thoughtfulness of strangers?

My community warns us not to encourage strays due to their perception of the dangers of strays, I'd be fined if I did this but I wish I could.

@Freelanzer when I first moved here 18 yrs ago we did, so many idiot people dumped their unwanted dogs on the side streets here, I actually tried to rescue those that I could but they were all big dogs and no one around here was willing to help. Mostly my neighbors would throw rocks at them. after a while the strays wouldn't go to anyone out of fear. Now we have none and the stupid town council has asked that we call the sheriff if we see strays but that upset me cuz they shoot the poor things.

@rebelann It sickens me to hear that they do that to dogs. We have an animal service run by the city and if they find a stray they adopt it out.

I guess that makes sense if you have a lot of strays in your area. We don't have any here, at least I never saw a stray.

I like the fact that the homeowner is so consistent as It has been going on for several years

Yes, but this is really nice. I always wanted to put something like that in front of our home, but we were told not to, because snakes can also come there.

@Freelanzer ..actually not directly. Rats would be, and so would frogs, and then snakes would follow.

Luckily we don't,t have snakes here, but I never thought that snakes would be attracted to a bowl of water

Yeah, there are so many kind strangers in the world, and we should be thankful. Even though I haven't met such kind of thing, I can feel the warmness from those considerate strangers.

I live in Northern California (Bay Area), and people generally don't do that kind of thing here. But I've interacted with some kind strangers.
