As you can see in the photo .. this is a very elaborate sand castle... a bit different to the ones I used to make which was two upturned buckets full of sand on two corners with a wall built between....
The people that sculpt them are very clever, we see them quite often on our beach and other local beaches... people stand guard on them all day... and they are happy for you to take photos... and they also like you to throw some money in a blanket or bucket in front of the sculpture....
If you click or copy and paste the link below, it will take you, to a collection of peoples photos of some very clever sandcastles... on my pinterest page... worth a quick visit....

I have watched people produce some totally spectacular sand sculptures at times, consisting of animals or religious scenes. The majority have extensive detail and are quite realistic.
It must be very frustrating for these people to think that the tide will come in every night and they have to begin from scratch the following morning.

@sueznewz2 The majority that I have encountered have been on the beaches and at a level that is cleared by the tide each night. These people end up returning each morning early enough to make some progress before the general public begin to arrive.

Yes I suppose it must be..but the ones i've seen do not build near the water they take or make the sand wet and build them much closer to the promenades, and slerp on the beach to keep an eye on them

I remember building sand castles as a kid. Like you, it was just wet sand in a bucket turned over to make it and then with a finger you poke out holes for a door, and perhaps some windows. I never had the time or patience I guess, not to mention creativity, to build something as elaborate as you have shown. I guess I was just too anxious to get back into the water.

Yes, I can relate to the protection from siblings.
Oh and I forgot the moot. Every castle had to nave a moot. So you would dig your heel in the sand and walk around the castle, then take water from the ocean and pour it in the trench you just made..

@Juliaacv quite possibly... on a little news item , I saw someone putting a smoke machine in the nose of their dragon sand sculpture... and that took 2 and a half days to complete and then kerp damp over night....

It won't let me look unless I join Pinterest, and I've no wish to do that, so I'll take your word for it. I was impressed with the sand sculptures the year before last when we came to Spain, and was disappointed that there weren't any when we were there this year.

I find these sand sculptures beautiful as I do the Ice sculptures in Harben China in the winter months festival. They do sand art on many beaches around Spain. So talented some people. I think I am more like you a blob of sand with a couple of buckets at each corner!
